    Description

Our project is a vegan permaculture and animal rescue 501(c)(3) non-profit, established in 2017. We have rescued dozens of pasture-animals from the 2018 lava flow and Big Island Dairy closure. We also have a couple of gardens and fruit trees all over the property, which are beginning to produce. Our mission is to teach food independence and treat animals with love and respect, without the intention of commercial exploitation.

    What else ...

We are 11 miles from Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, 15 miles from Hilo. There is a free bus system that can take you to other parts of the island.

No alcohol, drugs, smoking, or consumption of any animal foods (meat, fish, dairy, eggs) on the property. You can eat whatever you like off property, and you may have a drink, but we ask that you don't come back intoxicated.

We provide basic vegan staples (rice, beans, pasta, oats, peanut butter, fruits, vegetables, etc.), and the workaways cook for themselves. Most volunteers enjoy cooking together. You may purchase any extras or favorites at your own cost and we provide space for you to store personal food items. Please be aware that we cannot cater to special diets beyond what we normally provide.
