(CONSIDERING A GROUP PROJECT FOR APRIL 2025 - If you've seen our previous listing and are interested in , Gardening, Restoration and Green projects in Provence, please feel free to get in touch if you might be interested, but nothing will be certain until the new year.)
We are experienced Workaway project hosts - relaxed, easygoing, worldly and happy to share our lovely space in exchange for your help. We have a large home, with beautiful grounds inside a small village in the middle of nowhere Provence.
At the moment we are looking ideally for a couple (but open to singles as well) to spend some time providing help and companionship to out mother who is 87 years young.
Mom is very independent but is increasingly in need of someone around the house with her to help with very basic things. Meal preparation - to a somewhat restricted/very healthy diet - is probably the biggest part of the role, but other things like laundry, small projects around the house and garden, and helping her get that sweater over her head come up too. There are no medical problems or nursing that would be required.
She is originally a New Yorker and she and our (French) father retired to this home 25 years ago. She is 100% mentally sharp and also a former teacher of English and happy to discuss culture and literature and current events. She is an empath, a wise counsellor and beloved friend to many around her, but is just getting physically weaker and needs help despite her desire to keep doing everything herself.
We all like the idea of Workaway because of the kind of people it attracts and the opportunity it provides to everyone involved.
There are several other people already in her orbit, including a cleaner who comes to the house several hours every week and someone who helps in the garden, friends and family who live nearby or visit.
Our dream situation would be a couple (any makeup) who can help inside the house and out. It's a big old house on a large property and there are always things that can be worked and improved, and the garden, while reduced this year, provides a variety of fruits, vegetables and herbs throughout the summer.
Writers, graduate students, artists, explorers could also find a great situation here.
The house is in a beautiful location on the Var department of France - the heart of Provence - with plenty of space indoors and outdoors - although in the interest of full disclosure it is not very easy to come and go without a car.
The town is small but vibrant and has a bakery a couple of places to eat and a very good little supermarket as well as a lovely community of artists and other new arrivals along with the local vignerons. (And the wine is very good!)
ONE THING TO NOTE: Public transportation is rather limited, and it is not always easy to come and go. There are one or two buses per day to bigger towns, but it is not a place to come and go frequently. We can try to help arrange rides when possible or excursions, but please understand that this is somewhat isolated if you are used to cities.
We use Workaway's standard approach of - 5hrs/day x 5days/week in exchange for full room and board for the week - as a starting point, but there are no real fixed tasks that need to happen at specific times and we are very flexible and hope you will be too.
You'll be offered a private room with your own full bathroom, and whatever groceries and any other needs you may have while on site.

In exchange for 5h hard work we got to eat huge amounts of food and Remy took care, that we were never running out of very good wine and cheese. We are glad to have made this experience!
They came with seemingly endless wells of experience, skill, enthusiasm, patience, and good cheer, and were happy to share it all with everyone around them.
It's us who should be thanking them.

Anyone coming to work here will surely have a great time and will be well looked after.
