    Description

Hello! My name is Samadhi and in 2015 I started the CYM with two friends. Currently, Sri Lanka is facing some difficult challenges regarding the economy and politics and this affects the youth in Sri Lanka. That’s why we started CYM, to help the youth and prepare them for their future. In the middle (a bit south) of Sri Lanka, between Pelmadulla and Rakwana, we have a beautiful premises of about 65 acres mostly consisting of jungle. Here we will do a lot of agricultural activities in which we involve the youth of Sri Lanka.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Spending time with us means you will learn about the wonderful Sri Lankan culture, cook and eat many different types of local food, and become close friends with the other volunteers here. Moreover, you will learn a lot about Sri Lankan agriculture and the work involved in this. We will take you on several trips to places in the surrounding area and teach you our way of living life. The lessons you learn here will stay with you and benefit you for the rest of your life!

There is still a lot to do on the premises before we can officially open it to the Sri Lankan youth and tourists. We are growing several fruits such as mangos and bananas, we have a lot of tea plants, we are making water ponds (with fishes) and doing many more activities that revolve around landscaping the premises. We could really use your help with this! We are very interested in your perspective on the premises and the ideas you might have regarding how to improve.

Next to the practical work we also focus on training and development. We visit schools in the area, give workshops for the youth and do fun activities such as traditional Sri Lankan games with the youth. Participating in the training and development activities is beneficial for the youth but also beneficial for you and your personal development!

    Accommodation

We have multiple buildings on the premises where the volunteers can sleep. Males/females have separated rooms. Every building is equipped with at least one toilet and one shower. You sleep in a room with a maximum of two other persons. Moreover, all the water we use here comes from the surrounding mountains and is filtered right here on the premises. This means that the water is not chlorinated like the water in the cities and you can drink it straight from the tap. We have a kitchen where we cook and eat together everyday. You can choose to enjoy breakfast, lunch and diner together with us, we ask $20 a week for this. You can of course also choose to buy your own groceries and use the kitchen for free whenever you like. The choice is up to you. Finally, there is nothing better than a refreshing swim in one of our natural swimming pools that are present on the premises!

    What else ...

On the weekends you are free to do as you like. We have a lot of beautiful places in the surrounding towns that are worth a visit, such as temples, rainforests and waterfalls. From Pelmadulla, a town close, there are buses going to different big cities such as Ella and Galle. Of course you can also just relax and rest here in your time off.
