  • Description

Hello, I am Marlene and I would like to get to know Canada. Last summer I finished my High School Diploma in Germany and asked myself the question what comes after that. While everyone else already knew what they wanted to study, I couldn't decide and wanted to see something of the world first, improve my English on the side and maybe find out in the time what I want to work later.

I was on Spitsbergen last year, which made an incredible impression on me. That made it clear: It has to be a country in the north. I'm already incredibly looking forward to meeting new people; with the goal of spending a year backpacking in Canada without people from home, leaving my comfort zone, growing beyond myself and escaping everyday life in Germany. Even if this is quite nice.
In my free time I like to meet friends, organize camps for kids in Denmark and try my hand at playing the guitar (more bad than good ;))

During my high school graduation, I did a three-year apprenticeship as a biological-technical assistant. So I know laboratory procedures and can work precisely. But that's not really important for a job at home.

The tent camp also taught me to be a hands-on person. We build almost everything there ourselves from logs that we find on site and sometimes have to get a little creative if it doesn't fit the way we want it to. We also look after and play with about 60 children there.

When it comes to interior design, I've painted and wallpapered walls several times (the last one still needs some practice), assembled furniture or redesigned it myself.

I have also had several part-time jobs. The first was in a fish store, where I have topped fish rolls and sold. The second was in an assisted living home for people with mental disabilities, with whom I went on trips, shopped, played, and sometimes cooked for them. I also worked as a babysitter for a while, looking after and playing with a two-year-old child and her eight and 12-year-old siblings.

Besides German as my mother language and a bit of English, I know the basics in Danish through three years of Danish lessons in school. So I'm happy to teach "hello", "bye" and "thank you" in Danish and everything else in German ;)

However, I am also looking forward to learning new things. Give me a task and I will try my best.
