    Description

Hi, my name is Omega and I was born and raised in Machame in Kilimanjaro region. I grew up in the community of small farmers and entrepreneurs, which inspired me to become a social entrepreneur myself to support my home village. In 2014 I started with community work as a welfare officer and finally founded an organisation with my friend Mercy in July 2022. The projects we tackle currently are either located in Machame village or the closest town Moshi, where Mercy lives.

Our aim is to improve the situation of the community in different aspects.
We want to improve the lives especially for the most marginalized groups by enabling them to live a sustainable and self-reliant life. We want to train the people in farming and other skills, to fight against poverty and help to meet their daily needs. In this context, we have a small microfinance project, where we currently support five women to raise their businesses, like local restaurants or clothes shops. We plan additional skill training like baking or tailoring with three donated machines.

In some topics, relevant education is still missing in the rural areas. Thus, we organize workshops about sanitation, general hygiene and also feminine hygiene for girls at school. We offer sanitary pads, which allows them to go to school continuously. We also educate about the importance of clean filtered drinking water and have the vision to provide water filters in the surrounding schools and households of the villlages.

We also educate about the environment and the importance of recycling and the impact of plastic waste on our environment. In this context, we organized events for collecting plastic bottles and waste to keep our village clean.

We also want to start with a computer education program for our community since especially in the rural areas, the devices and also the knowledge is missing. By learning the computer basis, more future opportunities will arise in the future for the people of our community.

We are still a young organization and happy about your ideas and input. We want to offer you a free environment, where you can choose your tasks according to your interest and passion and want to exchange experiences and ideas with you. We want you to have a good time with us, enjoy the life in our village and the surrounding ecosystem or the amazing town Moshi at the bottom of Kilimanjaro and to include you to make you feel as a part of the community and family.

Additionally, I work in vanilla and coffee farming and give local tours to visitors in our village. So, I can show you around and if you are interested, you can learn a lot about the permaculture here.

Because we are a very young organization, we are not very active on social media and do not have a website yet. If you wish and have the matching skills, we would be happy if you can support us here.

You can also take part in our educational programs and help us to prepare teaching material for general and feminine hygiene and support us in the actual workshops.

Or take part in our environmental project and support us to educate the community about the impact of plastic waste, create awareness and organize plastic collection events.

You also have the opportunity to teach in one of our local primary schools, interact with the children and teachers and bring some new ideas about teaching strategies, give community English or computer classes for children and adults.

We also need help in our women’s entrepreneurship program. Depending on your interests you can teach the women of our community new skills or train them in business skills and bookkeeping.

We want to enable the members of our community to fend for themselves and educate them in home gardening. You are welcome to join us here.

If you are good with words and convincing you can help us to write proposals to get financial support for our ideas. We have no experience in that field yet. So we would appreciate your help finding good application opportunities.

If you have some other ideas, how you want to help our community we are open for your input and will give our best to make it happen.

    What else ...

Machame is in a very rural setup. If you feel like visiting a town, you can go to Moshi by public transport (Dala Dala) within approx. 45 minutes.

We have a lot of nature and national parks around. You can climb Kilimanjaro, go to Safari in Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire or some other parks. You can also visit close waterfalls, hot springs and enjoy the surrounding villages. I can help you to organize your tours, because I am a freelancer Tour Guide and have some good connections to guides and companies.

If you wish, we can also organise an airport pickup for a reasonable price.

For internet access you can buy a local sim card which has good network also in the village.
