Description
About the hosts:
We are a small family of three: Mia (31), Christian (33) and Marcus (1.5). We are from the USA, but moved to Norway in 2018 and our little one was born here in Norway. We used to be helpers on another site and worked on farms and a vineyard and hotel in the USA; Greece and Norway, and now we find ourselves in need of some help fixing up our house, and able to offer a nice stay to some helpers.
About the area:
Fredrikstad is a small city about 1.5 hours to Oslo, the capital of Norway. Our home is located in a suburban neighborhood, but the bus stop is just outside our house, and within 15 minutes the bus can take you to downtown. From there you have the ability to take the train to other parts of Norway. Fredrikstad is known for nice weather in the summer, and a much smaller, relaxed city than Oslo. There is one nightclub, a few bars and some good restaurants. But the best thing about this city is the nature. There are beautiful forests all around Fredrikstad, even just a five minute walk from our house you can find lakes and many hiking paths. With a short drive or bus ride, there is even more nature to be discovered.
About you:
We hope to host a couple so that you can entertain each other. If you love nature, you will have lots to explore around here. Although we look forward to spending time with you, showing you the area and getting to know you, out lives are a little hectic with work and a toddler, so you should be relatively independent and able to entertain yourselves, maybe with a personal project you're working on or by going out for hikes, reading or watching TV in your room, or whatever you like to do in your spare time. Hopefully you do not smoke cigarettes as I'm very sensitive to the smell of cigarette smoke.Types of help and learning opportunities

We are Americans in Norway, but we still can show you a lot about life in Norway. We can cook you some traditional meals, teach you some Norwegian if you wish, and introduce you to some of the locals.

Help
The kind of chores we need help with:
Painting indoors, painting the outside of the house, helping Christian build a fence, replacing drywall, spackling, etc. If you enjoy cooking we would love to try a dish you like to make! We don't really need help with childcare, since our little one goes to daycare and our time with him outside of daycare is something we look forward to. We hope to help you with these chores during the weekend, but during the week while we are working, we hope to leave you to it and for you to carry out some chores independently. As mentioned, we were helpers before, and want to make it a pleasant and comfortable stay for our helpers. Therefore we do not want overwork you. You should not work more than 20-25 hours a week, and you can feel free to tell us if you do not feel comfortable with a project or anything about your accommodations.Languages spoken

You will have your own room with decent WIFI and (hopefully) a TV. The room is pictured, and the bed converts into a double twin. You will even have your own bathroom if you wish. All meals and snacks provided. You can use the common areas on the first floor freely as we will be sharing our home with you, but use your room as often as you'd like if you require some peace and quiet. You can borrow bikes, will have access to public transportation, and can feel free to ask us for a ride to the beach/hiking trails/downtown.
What else ...
Here you can experience the beautiful nature of Norway. There are forests for hiking and biking within walking distance from our house. We can also drive you to the beach and more forests in Gressvik.
You can take a break from the stay to explore the rest of Norway and come back and continue your stay. We are happy to give you a ride to the Fredrikstad Train Station.
Take a break from working and borrow one of our bikes, where you can bike through the forest, or we can give you a ride to even more hiking trails in Gressvik and some gorgeous beaches. If you want some socialization, there is a network of expats in Fredrikstad, which we can introduce you to so that you can meet some other people.A little more information
