We stayed with Katharina and Glenn for 1 month in June. Katharina was incredibly attentive and nice, made sure we always had enough groceries, was very clear with directions when she gave us tasks to do, and always cooked healthy, filling meals. Katharina and Glenn are really cool, conscious people with a good sense of humor. They both love their
… read more animals so much, which was wonderful, and really shows because their two cats, two sweet dogs, and two horses were so kind, gentle and patient and just wonderful company to have around as we worked.
The work we did was mostly strimming the wild raspberries growing on the hilly property, clearing brush, sticks, and large branches, some weeding, sometimes feeding the horses and taking them for short walks, and other small various tasks around the garden and land. Sometimes the strimming became a bit monotonous, since there was so much of it do to. But we also did Haying for a few days which was fun and rewarding.
We had a lot of independence surrounding our work, and they were really flexible and easy with the schedule, we could let them know which days we wanted to have off. They were even so kind and trusting as to let us borrow their car on multiple occasions which we were really grateful for, as it let us explore the surround areas and go into Montpelier which was fairly close by car!
Glenn has an immense amount of knowledge and experience in carpentry, and we got to meet a lot of "old timers" in the community who have been building from scratch for a long time and were grounded and interesting to talk to. We had a sweet dinner with the neighbours, and went to a pizza night hosted by a family nearby.
Their two dogs, Bella and Bernie, became our close friends and every morning put a smile on our face seeing their tails wag when we came downstairs. If you throw a ball for Bernie one time he will be happy forever and always bring it back. Bernie is a true therapy dog in his heart. We both miss them so much.
The little Hobbit house that we stayed in was very nice, with a fair amount of privacy, and the outdoor shower was really pleasant. The view was incredible. There was no WIFI in the hobbit house, so you have to be ok with a bit of solitude. You can get fine service down at the house if you need it. But there are a multitude of books to read, walks to go on, and animals to spend time with. If you are lucky maybe you will find some mushrooms ;-)
All in all it was really pleasant! We wish the weather had been a bit more summer-like, but it is a really pleasant atmosphere, and we would be happy to go back. You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

We had a great experience with Ryan when he stayed with us for several weeks during the summer of 2022. Friendly and easy to get along with, he is quick to understand what is needed and pitches right in to get things done. We enjoyed him very much and continue to stay in touch because he's a great guy and because we hope he finds his way up here

Katharina & Glenn were excellent hosts, and this Workaway location was exactly what I was looking for. I spent one month in a beautiful hand-built cabin up the hill from their house, and helped Glenn with caring for the horses, tree-clearing and wood chopping. The work was challenging but rewarding, and the property was stunning. We ate dinner

Zar stayed with us for a week and helped us strip and paint the exterior trim of our rental house. He is a hard, diligent and reliable worker. But beyond that, Zar is just a pleasure to be around! He integrated seamlessly into our household. Great sense of humor and the most dog-loving person I have ever met. He stayed with our dogs a couple of
