I arrived on this place as a guest just to stay one night but it ended up as a two weeks workaway cause I loved this place and the owners so much. Dona helped me getting a white shirt for a business picture I had to take. Thanks again for that. You are fantastic. I also got some free rafting. That was amazing. Furthermore the guests we had were amazing. I really enjoyed the good time there and will come back on one day for sure. Thanks for everything. Lukas

Espero verte otra vez! :)

Gennaro and Anna - not even ChatGBT itself could write a review stating just how incredible these individuals are!! From the moment I stepped into the lives of these hosts, I knew I was in a good place - an incredible place. If you want to experience a true gem of Lisbon (outside Lisbon) where music and musicians are the hearth of life; if you want to have open, intelligent and fun discussions about everything and anything; if you want to experience quiet life with sunsets and starry skies; to eat great food; to attend concerts together; to avail of vast knowledge and life experience through the corridor of people that flow through this place... this is the seat. Take THAT Chat GBT!! From a work point of view, I spent time on garden beds / sowing veg; clearing the land / mowing the lawn and making food. You have a lot of free time to play music, write, read or venture on some beautiful walks / hikes in the area. The place is close to small cafes and shops and a traditional Portuguese village. Gennaro was great to bring me to a buffet and surrounding sites, to behold the landscape and beauty of such a silent home not too far from the bustling city of Lisbon. I really recommend the place for anyone but if you are a musician and can jam, this is the real deal!! I will return for sure - for the place and most importantly, for the minds behind the place for without the minds, there would be no such place. Grá guys, grá. Mark

I feel really lucky to have stayed with Mike and Edie and gotten to know them a bit. They are some of the loveliest people I’ve met, and took such good care of me and ensured I had a good experience and saw the best of the local area. I was genuinely sad to leave- I could have stayed so much longer (especially for Edie’s amazing cooking)! Much of the work was looking after Clair the lab, who won me over pretty much instantly. She is full of personality, energy, and love. We had some lovely walks in the local area and played in the yard. I also did some work outside, planting seeds, painting and cleaning. Edie made sure I was doing projects I enjoyed and that I had lots of time to relax, which I really appreciated. I couldn’t have asked for better hosts- I had been so excited to visit Nova Scotia, and it was actually better than I hoped thanks to the kindness and generosity I received. I got to see some beautiful towns, beaches and go on stunning hikes. If you want to experience Nova Scotia, it doesn’t get much better than Mike and Edie’s place.

I arrived to the casas in February, Juliana picked me up from the train station, and we went to do some groceries, she gave me a little tour of Baiao. As I got to know her a bit I can say she is a very kind, genuine, and a straight forward person. It was low season then, so these are the things I did: sanding and painting the furniture as well as the decks, karchering, taking care of the garden (brooming or blowing the leaves, picking up oranges from the ground and trees, pulling weeds). There was also some work around houses but like not much (cleaning windows, vacuuming stuff like that) When more guests started coming to the place, there was more work around houses and less outside. Also there was the reposition which I was doing with Lurdes (the cleaning master) The owner of the place, Jorge showed me around Porto and Baiao, which was really nice :) If your a person who enjoys: nature, walking, exploring, positive atmosphere, running, cooking, reading, kayaking, physical work, living in a countryside.. it might be the right place for you Okey so I am really really happy about my stay, and visiting again fs!!

This place was my first workaway I ever did. It was an amazing time I still keep in good memories. Mick is a very funny and friendly person. He explained me everything very good so it was easy to understand. Also his friend Jakob helped sometimes. This makes it even more fun. I arrived with very low experiences but here I learned a lot. Thanks a lot for everything

It was great to welcome Gwendolyn. She is pleasant and easy-going. Gwendolyn brought exceptional benefits to our nonprofit project, far beyond our expectations. From day one, Gwendolyn made valuable suggestions and helped the team immensely. Thank you!

Very nice stay in Maria and Chris place in the mountains. The place is wonderful, so quiet and peaceful. Accomodation is very good in the little house separate from their house. You will mostly cook your food for breakfast and dinner or adaptate to spanish schedule. The work is varied as there is so much to do around and Maria will ask what fits the best for you. Be prepare to take very care of the water, maybe not always have water on tap as it is very precious. The place is remote so don't expect to find shops near but you can walk to the closest village 2 and hours away. We really enjoyed this experience thanks to them.

Michael visited me for a short week. He helped me in my city flat and at the beachhouse. Michael is an easygoing, positive man who worked with lots of different tasks during the short stay. He also visited my class and took actively part in the communication with the students. Michael is an excellent baker, and his cake tasted delicious!

This was my first Workaway experience. I couldn't think of a better start than this. Nee and Udom are wonderful people. From the first day until the last moment I left, I never felt strange and they hosted me very well. Their delightful conversations and warm smiles made me feel like I've known them for years. Nee will always be one of my favorite chefs with her amazing food and special Banana Cake. I can eat Banana Cake every meal without ever getting tired of it :) Udom is an incredible person. I had the opportunity to work with him for a week, and I feel lucky for that. Udom is a hardworking and talented person. Whenever I had a question or wanted to learn something, he was very helpful. I learned a lot from him. If you spend time with him, you will have the chance to get to know an artist closely. Additionally, their 4 wonderful dogs are incredibly friendly. From day one, they accept you as part of the family. Thank you so much for this wonderful experience.

My experience at the motel was one of the greatest I had in a long while. fresh, young and refreshing, the peolple that come true there are really genuine and you feel welcome the minute you arrive, and miss them the minute you are gone. I wish I could have stayed longer but I will be back to see my friends on the island that's for sure. thank you for everything !:)

I had an amazing stay at Claire and Andrea's place. I couldn't have wished for a warmer welcome. I learnt so much about the Italian and British culture in this lovely place. The hills around are great for cycling, sightseeing and experiencing the Italians villages. Claire and Andrea are quite convenient with trains and offered a few very appreciated rides. Moreover, the tasks were nice, and the dogs amazing. Thanks again and hoping to see you soon, Ilona

I spent approximately eight remarkable days at Elza's. From the moment we met we clicked, and it was as if I had known Elza for a long while. Elza is by nature a very caring, open and open-minded, amicable, articulate, and energetic person. Despite arriving to her place late at night Elza still made time to come and collect me from the train stop. As a consequence of her easy-going nature she initiated our first conversation--beside the ones conducted remotely, where even then she was extremely warm and helpful. During the journey to her place we began getting better acquainted with ourselves, naturally, with her performing a balancing act stabilising one of my luggage whilst pushing her bike along, a memory that will always bring a smile to my face. She was my first Workaway host in the Netherlands and from her I gained better and first-hand insights into the Dutch culture and history. Elza was very conversational and involved from the start, she spoke from experience and shared a great deal of wisdom and knowledge with me. Within one day we had already explored the neighbouring towns and Arnhem via bicycle, during which she was very engaging sharing travel tips, historical stories and timelines of the area and buildings with me. We visited many a wonderful streets, several shops and natural/ecological sites en-route to various destinations. I enjoyed cycling through the natural park or area dominated by the IJssel river, and also along the road that borders the Veluwe national park as one heads into the town of Velp. Honestly, with the amount of things done I felt as though I had achieved so much in the days spent with Elza. As a budding architect it was a dream-come-true to hear back from Elza when I first contacted her, and believe me she responded in record time. Indeed, she went over and beyond what I expected for in addition to further enlightening me on the culture of our trade, she introduced me to her architect friends, amongst other friends and family members. Moreover, I relished being informed of the history of her new house and its former occupants besides being shown her new architectural plan drawings for her dwelling, informed of the reasoning behind these ambitions as well as involved in the planning process where my thoughts and suggestions were appreciated. Work was flexible and immensely enjoyable. Elza tailored her approach to my strengths and desires and made things really fun for me. Further, she answered my questions, explained things to me well, and encouraged me to think out of the box, step beyond the unknown, take agency and dare myself--in a sensible way of course. I appreciate the experiences one gained whilst with her, from removing tiles in the kitchen, to gaining knowledge of how electricity works to building een kippenhok (a chicken stall), fixing a toilet, or at least trying, amongst other things. There were many interesting concepts related to our field and to life that we discussed whilst at her home or on the move, as well as several valuable personal projects and interesting books that she brought to my attention. She was also humble to remark that she learned so much from me when in fact I feel that I learned more from her than the other way around. Perhaps the most remarkable aspect for me was the level of trust she had in that she would allow me to stay home alone, doing work or not, and thus giving me responsibility for her house, thus proving the extent of hospitality I experienced whilst with her. Elza was very encouraging and more like a big sister who is responsible and spontaneous at the same time. In all, this write-up does not do enough justice to nor does it fully summarise the wonderful moments shared with Elza whilst staying with her. I do hope that my account serves enough to encourage many travellers to give Elza a go, you won't be disappointed. The saying 'where does time go' is very apt in this case for how it flew so fast. One advice for Elza when we hopefully meet again: Spreek Nederlands alleen met mij!
