Hi there!

We are Alex and Sarah, a British couple, currently looking for our next adventure in Japan!

We are both scuba diving Instructors and have most recently been working in the Cayman Islands teaching to international students. We are both confident, sociable and love the opportunity to communicate with people from all over the world.

We are both really passionate about nature, hiking, diving and travelling.

Alex is also a snowboarding instructor and has been coaching the British under 18s team for many years in Austria. Sarah is an English Language teacher. She worked for a year in Japan and has some Japanese skills. We are both extremely hard working, calm, sensitive and fun people. We can offer a great work ethic and a good energy!

We are both currently in Indonesia and would really love the opportunity to stay in Japan for a couple of months over the winter season.

- Film Skills: I have strong filming skills. I have received training in directing, producing and editing films. I would be eager to assist you in the training of these skills.
- I am a singer/songwriter and play guitar. Making and sharing music with others is one of my main passions. I would be able to share these skills with others.
- Acting/Dancing – I enjoy devising plays and dances. I can assist in drama or dance workshops.
- Knitting and crafts - I also really enjoy crafts and spend a lot of my free-time knitting!

For two weeks I lived on Mae Ro Moe Refugee Camp as a volunteer teacher. I can't express my gratitude to the Karen people. It has been a wonderful, challenging, heart-breaking and uplifting experience. I am blown away by their resilience and positive nature. I can't really explain how it felt. I was told on the first couple of days about the… read more situation and why they are displaced from their own country, Burma. The Burmese military have treated them no better than animals, destroyed their homes, burnt their rice paddies and forced them to run into the jungle and live in hiding. Many people run for years and many don't survive. Some of the stories I have heard are so harrowing and frightening.

I worked at Junior College with students that haven't even spoken to their families in Karen state for years, because they don't have access to the internet. They came to camp for safety and education. Basic human rights we all take for granted. Most of the students aspire to be doctors and teachers with a hope to help the Karen people still living in Karen State. They can't go back because it's not safe and most can't go to another country because they don't have papers and money.

Life on camp was a challenge. Imagine a school in the mountains, wet floors and flip-flops! They hop up and down it no problem but was pretty hilarious for them to watch me. We were treated and fed so well which is a challenge to accept when you know that their rationed rice has been halved in recent times. They go into the jungle and forage for food, incredible that they are so aware of everything they can eat. They share it all. They share music so readily, every night I was singing Karen songs with different people, and teaching english songs!

The people I met have really changed my life. A deaf man that teaches at the special needs school that wants to go to another country so he can get a hearing aid, (told all through sign), all the children that don't have the opportunity to get what they deserve, the wonderful, powerful women that want to lead their people to a happier, unified future and the leaders that remain positive and support their people to keep going and be strong.

And all I want to do is cry. Cry for a world where such beautiful people can't get justice, safety and unity. They have hope, joy and resilience where I felt challenged for just a couple of weeks. The freedom I have is due to where I was born. A line on a map. There is no sense, no justice in the Karen People not being given the same opportunities as me. I can't express how thankful I am to have been a part of this community. I don't feel I can even express anything correctly. Just a massive thank you to all the beautiful souls I met and will meet again. I will never forget you, I hope so much for a peaceful and free future for you.
