Hello world !!

My name is Onna, I am 28 years old, and just completed my masters degree in clinical social work. I will be traveling in Europe for the month of September, and find more meaning and purpose in work trade and volunteering than simply traveling, as volunteering allows me to really sink into a place and connect with community. I love meeting new people, listening to stories, laughing, dancing, and learning with humans near and far.

I have worked on a organic fruit, flower and vegetable farm for 3 years. I have much experience in maintenance, harvest and working markets. I also have experience in the food industry and the child care realm. I'm always up for a good laugh and extra silliness :) I am an open, curious woman who is always open to learn new skills, and am especially eager to learn more about building structures. I pride myself on being present at all times, while also working hard and smart.

Where do I begin with this experience.... this place has an amazing energy and Helle matches it with her energy. I came here to spend intentional alone time and reflect on the past few years of life. The nature of Buggio at the end of summer is rich and bountiful; the juiciest, tastiest tomatoes, figs, peaches, cucumbers, eggplant, peppers! And… read more plenty of wild thyme, oregano and bay leaves in the surrounding forest area. It felt like paradise to get a taste of these flavors- I only ate out once my entire two weeks because the culinary inspiration was so rich!

Helle and I had an agreement of 3 hrs of work per day, and that I would buy my own food. I went grocery shopping twice in those two weeks and bought way too much (the garden and the neighbors were incredibly generous in sharing). I weeded the garden, cleaned Helle's car, built a shelf, and even weed whacked, my first time with this power tool! Be sure to bring boots or sturdy shoes if you decide to come. Helle was very clear in her instructions and empowering if I was doing something for the first time. A splendid coach :)

Buggio is a small town in the mountains, as the description says! The closest cafe is about a 40 minute walk, but has some of the BEST gelato I've ever had. You can also take the bus down to the closest city, Ventimiglia, it takes about 1 hr. I went one day, but immediately missed the serenity of Buggio.

I spent a lot of time alone at the river, reading and writing and watching the butterflies. If you are considering this trip solo, be prepared for an ample amount of time solo, but you are never alone with the river, which also has plenty to offer in teachings if you care to listen :-) It was a great coming home to myself. The time I spent with Helle was also so cherished. She introduced me to her neighbors, I don't speak Italian but we still maintained a sweet connection. Some of the most generous and kind people I've met.

I adored my time and chats with Helle, we spoke at length through a myriad of topics, and I never bored of our conversations. We spoke of the rich history of Buggio, tarot, our lives, culture, politics, the importance of gratitude. She taught me a lot about the art of mindfulness, giving, receiving, and being open to what the universe has to tell you. Helle is a true gem in this world and I'm so lucky I got to know her and Buggio. A slice of magic. I will be back <3

Onna remained really great at staying in touch and asked good questions before she arrived.
