Description

Hi, My name is Mechteld and I'd like to use this space to tell you a little bit about myself and about the reasons why I am on this platform.

Over the past fifteen years I have used WWOOF and workaway occasionally for short volunteering experiences in the UK, Spain and Portugal. They have all been very insightful and fun. I've noticed that I can find purpose in travelling when I can really connect to others, learn something and contribute something.
In August 2023 I quit my job as a teacher to travel Europe for a year in my mini campervan. I would like to spend some of this time relaxing (hiking and rock climbing) and I will dedicate a chunk of it volunteering for projects that interest me, with people who inspire me.
I am easy going and like being indulged in a project and spend time outdoors with good natured people.

At the moment I would be most happy spending a lot of time being outside: this can be in a touristic context, but I also like taking care of animals or working in a garden. I enjoy all different types of weather and don't mind working hard.

Apart from the above I can contribute in several ways: I have experience setting up a hotel business in Valencia, so I can be of assistence in developing tourism-related projects, I can do language exchange and I have experience cooking for small or larger companies of people (vegetarian or fish).
I have some experience with horses from a WWOOF experience in England, a workaway in Spain and from attending riding schools that teach the principles of natural horsemanship. I am always keen on learning more about taking care of them.

There's a couple of skills that I have started developing and would like to get into more on my travels: mountaineering skills, rock climbing and bush craft, and also chocolate making and the art of growing crops. So if you are willing to share your knowledge, I will be a keen learner!

About my background and hobby's:

Before moving to Spain I studied photography for a few years and later graduated in sign language teaching and linguistics. I love learning and studying new subjects, and try to find time to do that. After returning to the Netherlands I've been learning all there is to know about the nature of the waddenzee, since I am volunteering as a nature guide on the Dutch islands. Some of the other things I like to do or talk about: personal development, education, yoga and meditation, languages, hiking/climbing, cinema, reading novels, sailing and swimming.
