  • Description

The paragraph below is no longer current because my husband Chuck died in 2016 but still useful for the information it gives about the various projects we undertook both for workaway, WWOOF, Couchsurfing, and home exchanges. In the summer of 2018, I joined a group from the non-profit choral group Village Harmony in Bosnia where we learned and performed 29 songs throughout the country and took part in a Peace Building project.
In 2014 we were Workawayers on a forest commune owned by a sculptor in Croatia. Under primitive conditions I shopped, cooked on an outdoor woodburning stove, and cleaned up for a group of 12 or 13 international Workawayers. This was followed the same summer by an unusual couchsurfing project in northern Albania where I helped out in a traditional Albanian village home, both of us teaching art and English to village schoolchildren. In 2012 we were Workawayers on an estate in Scotland, where we painted, cooked, cleaned, weeded, and assisted a small traveling theatre troupe. In 2010 we spent two months as WWOOFers (World Wide Opportunities in Organic Farming) in Ireland during July and September. During these two months, we transplanted nursery stock, seeded flats, harvested, helped set up and manage weekly market; organized compost bins; shopped for and cooked family meals; and did general repairs and maintenance. We participated in a six-week archaeological dig in Romania in 2006, taught in the Czech Republic and Moldova 2001-02, and served as U.S. Peace Corps Volunteers in Moldova 1996-98. In 1992, '93, and '94 summer seasons we worked on the grounds crew, in the kitchen, and in the office of a music and dance camp in New England. Chuck and I also participated in two long home exchanges--one in Madrid, the other in Amsterdam. I dance weekly, exercise daily, and am a choral singer.
Now I am ready to apply again to workaway.info and help out a host in essentially similar tasks as well as many that might come up unexpectedly. I am flexible as to tasks, and adaptable to a variety of different ages, situations and personalities. I am a good cook, really good at reading aloud to people, and I'm also good at picking up languages and tutoring,
