Sicily, Italy - from Mar 2024 until Apr 2024 View allDescription
I retired from my work as a Biology Lab Assistant at our local College in April of 2018. Now I plan to enjoy life by traveling as much as I can. I have a very active lifestyle and that aspect is always incorporated into my travels in the form of long and short distance hiking and bicycle touring. Since 2011, I have walked several different routes of the Camino de Santiago in Spain, each time covering distances of 800+ kilometers. I met amazing people from all over the world and I am so grateful for how these encounters have enriched my life. During my first trip to Spain, I also volunteered with two WWOOF hosts and really enjoyed those experiences. I have been fortunate to be a Workaway volunteer in hostels in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala; Riohacha, Colombia, La Paz, Mexico and Santa Cruz, Chile. I find this activity very enjoyable and hope to secure similar positions in my upcoming travels. I love studying Spanish and learning about new cultures by living and getting involved in a community. Besides hiking, cycling and running I also love gardening, cooking, reading and spending time with family and friends. I am at ease meeting new people and always treat everyone with kindness and respect. I am organized and like to plan ahead, but can still tolerate a little chaos. I am an adventurous traveler, a creative cook and an avid gardener.

What else ...
During the fall and winter I like to spend about 2 - 3 months in in southern climates to avoid our freezing winter temperatures. This would allow me to take a long term volunteer position if, after a trial posting, the fit was right for both the host and myself. A longer term post would allow afford me the opportunity to continue to study Spanish and achieve my goal of becoming bilingual.

We loved having her.
The fact that she’s fluent in Spanish was an extra plus.
Santa Cruz is a lovely little town that is easy to get around in with a nice moderate climate. Of course being in the Colchagua wine region is a great bonus and my host was able to arrange 3 wine tours while I was there. I learned alot about… read more
