Description
My name is Bindu Peterhansl and I am a 24 year old human with a strong desire to learn and engage in community and sustainable projects. I grew up surrounded by community in a retreat centre in Spain where I learnt the value of working together and found my love for living with others. I then moved to the UK and ended up working in London as a Barista engaging in customer service and trying to survive the big city. When I finally ran away COVID hit, but I have now found myself as a student of Ecology and Conservation Biology at University down in Cornwall and am loving life by the sea. However, while my studies are fulfilling in promoting intellectual growth and I am enjoying gaining my academic knowledge, I still feel a deep need to learn from practice and engage with others that share a similar lifestyle and mindset to me. I have spent many years between homes travelling and working through Workaway and have always loved it. I was largely involved in sustainable projects including work at animal sanctuaries and ecological restoration sites, permaculture farms etc. I dream to start my own homestay one day where I can put what I have learnt throughout my degree and life into practice. I am a hard worker, and love engaging in new things.

My god. So it has taken me a while to write this feedback, the reason being that I found it incredibly emotional to do so because I LOVED IT SO FUCKING MUCH. The month and a half I spent here was one of the wildest, most challenging, and rewarding experiences of my life!!! Had the Corona pandemic not stopped me I would have returned pretty much as… read more soon as I left! This place is like no other on earth. Situated in lush jungle, populated by a myriad of animals and humans of such indescribably unique incredible personalities, it's a magical word that you HAVE TO LIVE in to understand. So go do it! I'm not gonna lie, its tough, but that is what makes it great! The autonomy and trust you build with the animals you work with, the strict regulations that are followed for proper rehabilitation, and the simplicity of your own life is alllllll about the animals and its fucking fantastic! Of course this means living with the basics of just what you need, and dealing with the harsh realities of jungle life, but you come out of it wishing you had never left and all the stronger for it (at least in my case)! You give what you have, and you give it all, and thats amazing! Get ready to hack through jungle trails with a machete in the pouring rain (almost no point wearing a rain jacket, its gets THAT WET), getting eaten bitten and kissed by mosquitos, monkeys, and the occasional jungle cat (all in the name of food status and love of course), and falling asleep to the best aerial orchestra you will EVER hear! It is impossible to describe how it feels to be a part of a group of humans and animals all working together in an isolated part of the world for the same goal and with the same drive. The animals I met will never leave my heart (or my skin, I'll carry the marks for life! I hope...). Your life is put into fantastic perspective surrounded by the most biodiverse ecosystem, getting involved and falling in love with it. Not to mention the humans you spend your time with, all the cuddles and meals shared over blood sweat tears and beers!
If you love animals and the wild and want to meet some crazy people, you gotta go, and be prepared to face your shit (literally and figuratively!) Also get ready for Andres and his AMAZING food (I still dream of that lasagna and wake up with my pillow smother in drool), mad music, big mouth, and incredible passion!

We loved having Bindu around! She is funny and sweet and also a very good worker. You can notice she is an experienced traveler and she matched very well with our back-to-basic lifestyle. She was sooo exited about the cold bathing/washing sessions in the river, and you can fit her and her little tent in any small spot on your land ;)
