Hi, everyone, and welcome to my profile!!

My name is Aldo, I am a 25-year-old Mexican boy living in the fabulous and always vibrant Mexico City.

I consider myself a warm and friendly person. Some of my favorite hobbies are playing videogames, watching movies and basketball games, as well as adventuring myself into new and unknown places for me. As well, I love to organize things and keep things tidy at home.

I love to travel (just as every other workawayer), but the thing about me is I don't like visiting the most touristic places in a region; instead, I like to visit those secret, beautiful and not so famous places only locals know. For me, those places always have a special kind of magic.

As part of my travel experience, I lived in Los Angeles for 2 months, and 5 whole months in London. Both thanks to full scholarships granted by my university. Both occasions co-living with other people from different nationalities. An incredible experience!!

Also, as a Workawayer, I got to spend a month and a half in the magnificent and always sunny San Francisco, where I had the chance to meet fabulous people and get to know various cultures from all over the world.

I love getting to know new people, especially from different nationalities. One can always learn new things from others, as well as share thoughts and experiences with them. If there is anything I can help other people with, I'll be glad to do it. That is what brings me the most happiness, because, if for any reason we are in this world, it is to provide help and to gather as a global community.

As well, I am a Tech Saavy. Love to know the most recent news in the world of technology, ranging from smartphones and computers to A.I. and cars. Need a little help with that computer? Need an app recommendation? Or simply just want to know the latest on tech news? Search no more, I'm here to help :)

Another skill I have is keeping all my stuff organized and tidy. I always try to find a place for everything and see everything in it's place. If there is no more room then it is time for a deep cleanup.

Last but not least, my mother tongue is spanish, so, if you are looking to learn that language I could give you some lessons.

If there is a skill I need in order to be able to help you but I don't know much about it I'll be glad to learn it. Really like to learn and practice new skills!!

The world is full of amazing people. You may find them in different places, for instance, at school, at work, or perhaps you may get surprised by your Workaway host. In this case, Stan, who ended up being not only one of my closest friends, but a part of the family. He is a unique human being, full of love and affection, ready to share it with… read more whoever he crosses paths with. This is very well represented within his beautiful family and friends who surround him by. The good energy and vibes that are present at his home are just rejuvenating. It is a privilege for anyone to stay at Stan’s home and get to share time with him.

Being my first Workaway experience, I was a bit nervous about how things would work out, but since the very first moment I stepped into the house I felt as if I were at home. Stan does all the things within his reach to make us all feel as a member of the family. The amount of work, passion, and dedication he has put into the house is noticeable. There is this “warmth of home” feeling that has no comparison. Stan’s energy motivated me to give my best, not only during my stay in Walnut Creek, but for my daily life.

Stan is a young spirit. I was amazed by all the energy he has, most of the times even having more energy than me!! He wakes up early in the morning, waters the grass, works on his house projects (which may vary), goes hiking with Nala, visits family and friends, and still has enough energy at the end of the day to watch movies!! He even hikes Yosemite as if he was in his mid-twenties!! But not only that, the amount of knowledge he has is outstanding. I would love to have as much stamina as him!! That is why Aneta (another guest), and I ended up calling him “Stan the man”. 😎

It was a pleasure for me to provide help with his house projects. I learned a lot from him on that matter. The amount of detail and passion placed into every project he works on blew my mind; I wish we could all be like him in that regard. It is fantastic to realize that every single improvement done to the house during the last few years can be linked to a guest. Stan keeps track of the help received by every guest and acknowledges them very kindly for that. Being able to contribute with our “grain of sand” to improve Stan’s HOME is very special to me. 🏡

The amount and quality of adventures I had alongside Stan, Nala and other guests during my stay was superb. He has a map of the Bay Area lodged in his mind, knows every corner of the city and, despite pandemic restrictions, he is the reason I got to experience all the fabulous and magic places the Bay Area has to offer. I’ll never forget the fantastic rides in his car. Driving along the coastline, admiring the view, and looking at the rear mirror just to find Nala with her head out of the window and enjoying the ride was breathtaking, a feeling I will never forget. It was an honor for me to drive the “all mighty Volvo”.

Speaking about places, if there is a location that can be compared to paradise, it would be California. The nature it hosts, the beaches, mountains, lovely weather, and clear skies. California has everything, including food variety. One day, instead of getting tied up in traffic, we had dinner in a Chinese restaurant, and, oh boy, one of the best dishes I’ve ever tried. Still, when talking about food, there is no comparison to the meals elaborated by Stan’s family and guests, those have no comparison. Finally, smoothies prepared by Stan are worthy of recognition.

Can’t finish without dedicating some words to Nala. Another wonderful living being I had the privilege to meet. She is the most wonderful dog ever, one who makes your days brighter and happier, all thanks to her energy and sweetness. The time we spent together was fantastic. Taking her for a walk was such a joy. Whether she was running on the mountain, having fun on the beach, playing with other dogs, or exploring the forest, you just couldn’t help staring at her and wonder if she is the proper definition for the term “free soul”. The bond between Nala and Stan is amazing. I admire them, both. Thank you for showing me what true companion is all about. 🌟

There aren’t enough words to express how blessed I feel for having met Nala and Stan. People often talk about the wonders of traveling and meeting new people, but Stan takes that statement to another level. I will always be grateful with him and his family for all their support. I know for sure we’ll meet again very soon. Mi casa es tu casa. Los extraño mucho.

Deixado pelo anfitrião (Explore the area while ...) para o Workawayer (Aldo)

It is my honor and responsibility to be able to publish on this website my observations concerning Aldo Torres’ approximate 6-weeks stay with us. I say the word responsibility because this will be Aldo's first Workaway feedback and I do not wish to treat this somehow as a teacher grading a student. Yes I'm 50 years older than Aldo, and yes I've… read more written many reviews as a host, but insofar as my time spent and interactions with this unique individual have transpired, I wish to speak as though we are equals, as if this were my first experience as a WA host and this was the first time writing a feedback for someone. Any feedback from him regarding me, his first host, can and should carry the same weight.

So first I must shout out to the Workaway website/organization for bringing Aldo and I together. My only complaint is that his visit was too short. I underestimate just what the simple act of accepting a traveler’s request over the internet from somebody coming from afar can translate to. I only want Aldo to come back! If he can't anytime soon, his being here only reinforces my wish to experience others as inspirational as he was. Honestly, it's addictive, but of a kind that leads to health and prosperity. Aldo sets a new bar. His kind/kindness makes my expectations grow with each new visitor. I do hope there's no age limit for Workaway hosts because encounters like this make me want to live forever so as to host more crazy, smart, responsible and cool young people like him :)

In his profile, Aldo wrote “That is what brings me the most happiness, because, if for any reason we are in this world, is to provide help and to gather as a global community.” He lived up to those words. The number of ways that he helped me on a practical scale were never ending. From finding a GPS tracker so that I wouldn't lose my dog (again), to helping me get up nine-years overdue window coverings, to setting me up with a cloud service to safeguard my cherished family photos - and oh so much more!! - he left his mark and measurably improved my daily life. He more than accomplished what he had offered to help me with.

But his effect went well beyond all that. He was a gentleman. He was generous. He was considerate. He was a man of exemplary character. And I and my other guests were the better for it. He could always be counted on. He never complained. In spite of a misfortune which took him by surprise upon his arrival at SFO customs which sadly changed everything for him, he consistently demonstrated an unwavering, positive, optimistic attitude. In his letter of request it said “I consider myself as a friendly person, and after carefully reading your profile, I know we can really get along and, hopefully, end up as friends.” Through numerous acts of kindness and generosity, well beyond the practical matters discussed above, he made good on this hope.

First and foremost, he loved my dog Nala!!!!, and Nala came to deeply love him. I had mentioned to him that I had rescued her on May 31st 2020. On the morning of May 31st 2021, I was surprised with the gift of a touchingly-worded celebration announcement card of our one-year milestone, elaborated upon with a dog-themed coffee mug and dog-themed tea bag holder. The words he had hand-lettered on the card were these: “31/05/21 Stan and Nala, ! Year together!! ‘There is no faith which has never yet been broken, except that of a truly faithful dog.’ You're the best EVER, (Nala’s Words, she chose the card).” He would later send a wonderful shirt from Mexico with “NALA” in bold golden letters across the front, custom illustrated by him. Who does things like that?!

Upon his arrival, he bequeathed upon the house an assortment of authentic Mexican snacks and treats: Amaranto con pasas (raisins), Camotes (from Santa), Tajin (chiles), Palanqueta, Cacahuates garapiñados, Mangos with chili, Limes with coconut rellenos, sweet Baritas (strawberry and pineapple), fried Bananas, Pepitas garapiñadas (sweet seeds). Also included were 6 spun glass shot glasses in a basket, and one aesthetically packaged 700 ml bottle of Maestro Dodel Diamante Tequila Repsado. In addition he carried with him an authentic 11” x 16” Mexican Amate Bark Painting not only for me, but also another which he gifted to my son and daughter-in-law upon his farewell. Thank you Aldo :)))

He was informed that the American Father's Day was to be celebrated this year on June 20th. Having returned to Mexico 6 days previously, he conveyed the following greeting to me on the 20th: "Congratulations for being the father of an incredible boy. You must be really proud about that. I'm sure Maxime is really grateful for having you as a father. All of the effort you have put as a father is what has taken Maxime to where he is nowadays. Keep enjoying the day!! 😎🤙🏻🌁" Spoken like a son of parents who raised him well!

A few days ago, after he had returned to Mexico, I messaged: “I don't mind being alone now.” He responded: "You're completely right and that's what we've been saying, concentrate on the friends you have right now. Keep them and take care for them rather than thinking on things that just don't fulfill your spirit. It's easier said than done, but all of us have to start somewhere ☺️"

Rest assured that if you're considering hosting him, you will not be disappointed. Please come back soon Aldo. And if you can't do so soon, mi casa es tu casa forevermore. You are wise well beyond your age.
