I stayed with Avi, Margaret, and Svike for 10 days. It was my first Workaway experience, and I wasn’t sure how much I would enjoy it, but Avi and Margaret truly made me feel at home with their kindness and friendly communication. My main jobs were putting mountains of weeds into the compost and doing some weeding. I didn’t have much experience with gardening, but Avi explained everything very clearly, and I actually enjoyed it a lot! It was really interesting to learn about how to make good compost that grows good vegetables. They also let me bake some cakes, and it made me happy to see them enjoy them. Every dinner they cooked was amazingly delicious, and I enjoyed having nice conversations, too! Avi sometimes confused me with his jokes, but that made me laugh even more! 😂 I can’t thank them enough for having me, especially since I was in bed for 4 days because I got sick. They cooked meals that helped me recover and always made sure I was alright. I felt a bit bad because I couldn’t help as much as I wanted to, but Avi told me not to worry — “this is life.” I’m so glad I met such a wonderful host. I would highly recommend staying with them!

I can't possibly express how happy we were with Sofia and how grateful I am for her coming, and for all her hard work. Sofia has a real gift for working with people, and she's a natural at the farmers markets and with helping customers on the farm. She's like an angel sometimes, appearing when I need help with something, and often with a delicious homemade refreshment! I was really impressed by how responsible she is, always showing up ontime for every obligation and keeping the flowers, garden, and chickens alive with her TLC. She's a great cook too, and great with the kids. I'd gladly host her again!

What an amazing time I had in Colchagua Valley with Rodrigo and his team! Rodrigo as a host is very trustworthy and responsive, easy-going, and great company to share time with! It was a pleasure to get to know the beautiful valley of Colchagua. Rodrigo did everything in his power to show me around and let me get to know as many places as possible. I got to know the living history and culture of Colchagua, gastronomy, tourism, wine, and, of course, the local community. We visited jaw-dropping places, restaurants, and wine tastings; it was a pleasure to record all the videos and take photos for them. I enjoyed every minute of our activities together. I don't think I have ever met so many friendly, welcoming people in one place. I'm definitely going back! :)

Amy gave me a warm welcome to this slice of heaven on Earth before I even stepped foot on their farm. I had came from a negative workaway experience prior, and Amy really took the the time to answer all of my questions to make sure that my stay would be as comfortable as possible. I stayed in a 28 foot long trailer that was very comfortabe and always had a well stocked panty and refrigerator of whatever food I needed. Due to minimal light pollution, I experienced magnificent aurora displays during the darker nights of my stay. There is a small and private lake to practice canoeing whenever I pleased that is also really peaceful and beautiful. The landscape surrounding the property is truly unique and is filled with so many hidden treasures. There are many wonderful pet friends to be made as well: Chaga and Pinto the pups, Kako the parrot, Sean the Sheep, Simon the chicken and his flock of feathered friends, in addition to all of the wildlife here. I saw wild Bison for the first time in my life, as well as a Lynx. This is truly an animal lovers paradise. During my stay, I mostly helped with general farm tasks such as feeding the chicken and sheep, collecting and washing eggs and making sure they have enough water. I also had the privelage of helping Ian frame the new workshop and stain the walls once the wood was all cut and put into place. My favorite work days were the workshops in which we went out foraging on the land to harvest materials needed to make teas and other products. It was also nice interacting with the locals during this time. The Saturday markets were also fun to interact with the locals and to see the products go out into the community. Amy is an incredibly supportive person. When I told her I missed my ukulele, she decided to take me to buy one (thank you so much Amy!!!) I was very happy during my time there, being able to play music. Ian and Wren are also musical, and I got to jam with them a few times which was really pleasant. Amy even allowed my friend who is working towards being a veterinarian to volunteer for a couple weeks to be able to be apart of a spay and neuter clinic in a remote community. I got to be apart of it as well, and it was truly a unique experience! Amy is a wealth of knowledge and I couldn't imagine landing in a better place to learn and grown in this region of Canada. There is so much to do and to learn here; 2 months was not enough time, I look forward to returning as soon as possible. Thank you Amy!!!

Mark came out during the 2025 chestnut season and helped bring in the harvest. Chestnut harvesting is a job where it's really nice to be young and flexible. Though Mark is neither, he was undeterred and willing to learn and do his best, and ended up harvest more than most people half his age --over 700 kilograms! I always found Mark to be polite and easy to talk to. He was a very low-maintenance workawayer. He is also generous and happy to be of service. One thing I'll miss, is that we both enjoyed the same beverages, a lot of coffee and the occasional beer, and so we'd often offer such things to each other. Mark was a very good guest, keeping his spaces clean, and getting along well with the other campers. *I'd just like to add here that Mark told me about his first experience where he got kind of a lousy review. He was too polite to go into much detail, but I got the impression that he was a victim of circumstance and had to put up with more than most of us would tolerate. All in all, I'm grateful that Mark came to our farm and for all that he contributed. He was talking about coming back next year, and I hope he does!

Having John & Amelia stay with us was a delight, they fitted in from day one and got on brilliantly with the other workawayers.. They are a great company, and we had some excellent and lively discussions over dinner, They are also hard-working, capable and adaptable, and I imagine they would be an asset to any workaway host. I rarely get the opportunity to get away from our farm, but experienced and dependable folks like J&A are folks I feel comfortable leaving in charge. If you get a chance to host them, grab it with both hands

Regina was a very warm and helpful guest. She helped setup a vegetable garden, contributed to gardening and DIY projects around the house, and made some tasty German treats for us too. I would gladly recommend her to other hosts and I hope she enjoys the rest of her japan trip!

Sixtine came out a couple times during the 2025 chestnut season and helped bring in the harvest. She learned very quickly and got a lot done during the all-too-brief times that she was here. It was always a joy getting to know Sixtine. She's very cheerful and smart, full of good questions and answers. She got along great with the other guests and was a very low-maintenance workawayer. I highly recommend hosting her and think that she'd be a great asset in almost any situation. I'd gladly host her again whenever she feels like making the drive!

Shelly was such a lovely and welcoming host during my stay here— can’t recommend this project enough! The hostel is surrounded by beautiful jungle, and the accommodations are so creative and charming. Beach and grocery store are within walking distance, and shifts are scheduled fairly and in advance so you can plan your days. Definitely an experience I will treasure forever and would recommend to anyone looking for a lovely hostel workaway 💚

Ada came to our farm for the majority of the 2025 chestnut season. She became one of our best harvesters, harvesting over 2,100 kilograms of chestnuts by hand by herself. That's really a mind-blowing amount of work that few here have achieved. She also did much of the mowing and helped with the data collection. Ada was an excellent guest who got along well with everyone. She was a person whose tactfulness kept things running smoothly. Ada was good at balancing her time and energy. It was always fun hanging out with her by the fire or playing games, though often she would go off on her own and read and enjoy some quiet alone time and be ready to start bright and early. She was organized and forthright, and I appreciate that she left her camper cleaner than it was when she arrived. All in all, I would highly recommend hosting Ada, and would gladly do it again!

Emily was here for the majority of the 2025 chestnut season, and was undoubtedly one of the MVPs, harvesting over 2,400 kilograms of chestnuts by herself, as well as seeking out and gathering much of our best seed. It's hard to understand and appreciate how much of an accomplishment that is and how much hard work it took. One thing she did that I really appreciated was to help me load and unload some trailers full of chestnuts by hand when she noticed that I was hurt and needed help. Emily brought a lot of joy and good vibes to Camp Chestnut. She's very friendly and able to get along with everyone. She's also very intelligent and fascinating to talk to, being an experienced traveler, a multilinguist, and an accomplished student, having worked all sorts of jobs, from farming to archaeology. She was also very easy to host, happy to tent camp during the crowded weeks, and a fun person for us all to socialize with. I would highly recommend hosting Emily, and would gladly do it again!

Thank you, Tennison for all the help while you were here. It was pretty hard work. We were digging a ditch to replace a gravity feedwaterline. Tennison worked really well with the other workawayers I have here. He’s a good cook. Got along with everybody was a pleasure to have around.

Jaya came here for a week during the last days of blueberry season. He was an excellent guest who was fascinating to talk to, easy to host, and always happy to help with whatever needed to be done. He got along well with the customers and staff, and was always organized and generous with his help. I would definitely recommend hosting him, and would happily do it again!

I stayed with Amber and Perry from July to the middle of September and am so happy I took the opportunity to stay with them. Working with them created some of my favourite memories during my travels. I felt really taken care and that they that truly valued giving me a great working experience with lots of opportunities to do tasks I enjoyed and explore the surrounding environment. They are so knowledgable. I really valued going on hikes and nature walks to learn about the animals and plants on the nearby trails in our spare time and their effort to gather with the the other workers really made me feel at home. They also fostered a very relaxed team environment where I felt safe to learn, practice new things and bask in the beautiful surrounding environment. I am so grateful for the experience to work with them and couldn't recommend them enough.

Andrea is definitely one of the most charismatic volunteers we’ve had here! She taught our daily yoga classes with great professionalism and care — guests always left feeling happy, relaxed, and full of gratitude for her sessions. Andrea is very friendly, communicative, and sociable with both our team and our guests. She was always willing to lend a hand in the kitchen and contribute wherever help was needed. She has a true passion for language exchange — French, English, and Spanish — and speaks Spanish impressively well. Andrea also has the heart of an adventurer. She loved exploring the trails and surroundings of Isinliví, connecting with locals, and making new friends along the way. We feel very grateful for her time with us and would welcome her back anytime! And of course we highly recommend her to anyone looking for a volunteer!!!

Mary was a great workawayer! We ate really well while she was here. She made many 100s of perogis (potato and cheese, beet and sauerkraut, acorn squash, pie cherry dessert perogi), herring in a fur coat, apple pie, Concord grape pie, eggplant caviar. It was all extremely delicious. And she made a great borscht. She also did a wonderful job weeding and cleaning up the garden and yard around the house. And she did all the daily tasks, such as sweeping and collecting chicken eggs, without reminders. I very highly recommend her as a workawayer.
