My time spent with Dayana, Haroldo, Valentina, and Rosie was amazing. I truly felt like part of the family, and all of the students and their families were welcoming, too. If you enjoy working with students of all levels/ages, and are looking for a quiet beach town to explore, I fully recommend this workaway! You will follow a textbook for the English classes, which I found to be very helpful with teaching. I only worked Monday-Thursday, so I had plenty of time to take the bus to nearby beaches on the weekends. Also, don’t be discouraged if you don’t know Portuguese. The family and locals are always willing to practice with you if you want to learn! This workaway is a great opportunity for a cultural exchange and building friendships within the community. I really enjoyed sharing meals with the family, getting to know my students, and learning about Brazilian culture! The memories I made in Brazil will always be held close to my heart❤️ Muito obrigada

Emmanuel hosted me for five days at his place, and it was truly a great experience. Since he has been living in Japan for a few years, he was always able to give me excellent advice not only for Tokyo but also for other parts of the country: restaurants, temples, museums, walks and many other things. We went out together several times, and thanks to him and his knowledge, I got to discover aspects of Japan that were completely new to me. I had a really wonderful time! As long as you’re respectful toward him, he’ll repay you a thousand times over. On top of that, he makes you feel comfortable — you can talk about anything with him. Emmanuel, thank you again for all your advice and for your help, including when I was struggling ;)

Cheryl and Bernhard were probably two of the most welcoming and loveliest people we met in Canada. We stayed with them for two weeks at the end of our 3½-month trip travelling through British Columbia. They made us feel comfortable and at home straight away. Their cabin is cosy and full of life, and the views out the back overlooking the trees and river are magical. I felt very lucky to have spent time there. We loved hearing their life stories around the dinner table after enjoying Bernhard’s wonderful cooking—he’s an excellent chef. I also really enjoyed making stained glass with Cheryl in her workshop. She’s a patient and fantastic teacher, and I loved pottering around in there, working on my own little projects. Joel really enjoyed working out in the garden, helping Bernie with jobs, driving the big ol' truck (especially getting ice cream) and chatting with Ingrid! The work was enjoyable and never really felt like 'work'. They truly encouraged us to explore Jasper and the surrounding areas, which were absolutely beautiful. We would have loved to extend our stay or, in hindsight, to have come here first so we could have stayed longer. Either way, we were so grateful to meet them and for the kindness they showed in sharing their life and home with us. It feels so lovely to know that when we come back, we have friends waiting for us here now.

Excellent place for a backpacker who is looking for a place to rest some time and explore Bogota and its surroundings. The schedules are flexible and the hotel is very well located. I recommand

We stayed at Patricia's house for two weeks and looked after four of her five sweet dogs. The dogs were very easy to walk and feed. All the dogs are very cuddly and trusting. It's a lovely place to relax and enjoy the natur. Patricia planned everything well and told us what we needed. We were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights right from her house. We for sure recommend this place to All dog-loving Workawayers. It was a great stay!

Mery and her family are super welcoming and sweet. Since I was the only volunteer at the time I had my own room including a bathroom. The working hours are very fair it’s 5 hours a day and Mery is super flexible and respects your free time a lot. You get to have a little bit of responsibility while working since you will be alone which is fun because you get to improve your Spanish. You can of course always call Mery and will never end up in an uncomfortable situation. The hostel is pretty small and traditional which makes you be in touch with a lot of locals. I was be provided groceries for breakfast and there is an open kitchen and fridge that you can use to cook and store your groceries in whenever you want to. All in all the experience was very fair and easy going! The only thing I didn’t really like too much was the area it is located in, but you can get a Mototaxi to the city center for under 3$.

We had an incredibly special time with Carolyn and Peter. They set the bar high for future workaway experiences. During the two weeks we spent with them, we truly felt part of their lives. We had wonderful conversations about art, culture, and our own lives. We enjoyed Carolyn's delicious cooking, with many ingredients from their own garden (and let's not forget Peter's delicious scrambled eggs and drinks!). We also met several of their friends, and they even took us to a cozy dinner at their home. The magical place they call home offered a huge variety of projects we were able to do for them, making the work challenging and varied. The place also offered the opportunity to use the art studio and the fantastically large garden during our free time. At Carolyn and Peter's suggestion, we took trips to nearby places like Moulins and Hérisson, which were very enjoyable. We'll definitely miss the witty dynamic between Carolyn and Peter, the sweet cat Figaro, and the beautiful Château, but hopefully we'll see each other again someday! We wish you all the best!

We were two friends staying with Noya for ten days and we really enjoyed our stay. The work was nice and the amount good to handle. Our wishes of which tasks we preferred were heard and met whenever possible. Noya also explained us a lot about the land and the plants and showed us around so we got to see a lot of the beautiful forrest. We also enjoyed the evenings together with Noya and the other volunteers, which had family like atmosphere and good conversations. We would definitely do the Workaway with Noya again and recommend it to anyone who likes spending time in the outdoors and wants to learn more about Andean Forrest's.

What a good time I had with Nigel and Sami!!! I've spent ten days with them, in this beautiful house. Your place is so peaceful, beautiful walk to do around not far from beautiful beaches, Bordeaux if you have a car. Work wise, I've helped chopping wood, Karcher some carpet, outside chairs, some painting and fixing the shed doors. Talking with Nigel was really interesting, a million stories to tell, a good advice about all the places he has visited!! I'll warmly recommend going there, get to now them, chill and discover a really good workaway experience to me! Thanks again for everything to both of you. If I'm around I'll surely visit you.

This was my second workaway and after having such a successful first experience in Canada I was worried the second wouldn’t live up to the same expectations…I was very wrong! Lucy, Ian, Freya and Millie were such lovely people who instantly made me feel at home giving me my own room inside their house at the Masseria. It looked just as beautiful as in the photos it was a truly a idilic place to be. The work was always fair when cleaning or gardening and we would often do other fun activities like cooking, making soap, dog walking, and wine tasting. I was very lucky to have been able to go on so many trips on my weekends off to places like Lecce, Matera, Alberobello, Ostuni and more. Ian and Lucy went above and beyond showing me places around Puglia. We had so many great homemade meals, played board games, watched traitors and shared stories with one another. I made some great friends throughout my stay with the other workaways, Michelle, Kate and Josh who I shared some really great memories with and hope to see again. I also have to mention all the lovely animals of course, the doggos- Kimi, Yano, Arrow, Button and Shumi, and the cats Silver, Sebby and the newest edition Yuki :) if you’re an animal lover this place is perfect! I had loads of fun cuddling and walking the pets who were such a great mix I miss them all already :) Thanks again for everything Ian and Lucy you have such big hearts and Freya I’ll definitely miss your humour and of course you’re infamous tiramisu. I cannot recommend this place enough work hard and you are more than rewarded!!!!

I had the pleasure of working here last January-February. This period of time is obviously very difficult given weather conditions but the support within the team was brilliant. What I really liked about working here was the small but strong size of the group. There are volunteers who are more short-term but also more long-term. They are the ones who have good knowledge of the field and will help guide you, preventing so much of a 'revolving door' that is characteristic of humanitarian organisations. More importantly, they have strong ties with the refugees. You can see as much of an equal power dynamic as possible, where people are treated like real human beings and are given as much dignity and respect as possible. This organisation lacks the 'saviour complex' ego, they are not looking to 'look the best' but actually do their work and help people as much as possible. Seeing how much time and free time people are dedicating to help others was really inspirational. The work is not always easy but seeing the small but crucial difference you can make...well, makes it worth it right? Other things I really liked is sharing a house together with other volunteers so you can reflect on the day together, cook too if you want but also have your own space to relax. The town is also very pretty and people are generally nice. There is also a beach. Although it was winter time, I liked running there and being able to have some nature nearby. Finally, living and learning about other people from around the world was also very cool. You might not get along with everyone but that's also life. Every person I met had a story inside them and I am greatful to have had the opportunity to listen to it. Whilst I was only there for a short time, that experience really shaped a lot of my opinions and ideas about the world today...I definitely recommend :) (Thanks Jed and Charlie! xox)

Laura is an amazing volunteer that made a great impression with us. She adapted smoothly in our community and contributed to a memorable time for all. She is very friendly, helpful and understanding. Hard working, skilled, curious and dedicated. We are proud and happy to have hosted Laura and can strongly recommend her to any workaway host.

Staying with Maxine and Klaus was truly a gift! a slice of paradise filled with kindness, creativity, laughter, and the gentle rhythm of nature. Their beautiful finca is more than just a place to stay; it’s an experience that nourishes both heart and spirit. From the very first moment, we felt welcomed like family. The land is stunning. A sea of olive trees, dotted with fruit trees and flowers, and home to their lovely dogs, cats, and chickens, who bring such warmth and life to the place. The gardening work was simple yet deeply fulfilling for me, it became a kind of meditation, a way to clear my mind and reconnect with the beauty of caring for the earth. I loved tending to the plants, cleaning up, and watching the garden transform a little more each day. We shared delicious meals, inspiring conversations, and many wonderful moments that felt like family, both literally and in spirit. My children were completely at ease, spending their days happily with the animals, swimming in the pool, playing, and learning in this nurturing environment. Since our shared meals, I often find myself recreating Maxine’s wonderful recipes at home, keeping her spirit and flavors alive in our kitchen, hearts, and memories. Thank you, Maxine and Klaus, for opening your home and hearts to us. You’ve created something truly special. A place where nature, art, and people connect in the most beautiful way. We left with full hearts, new friendships, and the hope to return one day soon. With love and gratitude, Yvonne, Timmy & Amelie

Bernadette and Andrew have a lovely place with a beautiful garden just 15 minutes walking distance from the beach. I felt very comfortable and enjoyed staying with them very much. They both are very good at cooking and they had a cute little foster dog! I mainly did some gardening and household duties, which was quite all right. I'd like to thank Bernadette for the trips and tips she was happy to share with me!

My time at this animal shelter was truly awesome! I volunteered from end of September to begin of October 2025 and could stay in a very large and comfortable caravan (even with its own toilets). Karen, the host picked me up from Vila do Bispo and from the very beginning, you could see how much effort she puts into caring for the animals. Even if we worked most of the time very independently (the other volunteers explained me everything very nicely and the hours of working and shifts were organized with a plan) Karen was always open for questions, especially about the dogs life's stories etc. (very interesting in my opinion :)) Overall the place is really nice, with a big garden in the middle and all the places to stay for the volunteers and the dog shelter around it. It honestly felt like a little campsite of our own and the atmosphere between the volunteers was really nice and familiar! I met lot's of international people and it was a pleasure to work with them. <3 Unfortunately I got really sick at the end of my stay, but Karen was really understanding, helped me finding a doctor and even got an appointment for me :) In general the work was totally fair. We began at 8 o'clock in the morning till 9, for feeding the dogs (and cats). Then you mostly either had a morning shift (from 10-12am) or an evening shift (from 5-7pm). There you had to clean the amenities, going for walks with the dogs, cuddling them, giving them medicine and feeding them again (for the evening shift) or doing other stuff that has to be done. I really loved to work there and I honestly miss the dogs every morning! It was a pleasure meeting all of these lovely souls and every of them have now a special place in my heart <3. All in all I can really (!!!) recommend this place to you if you love animals and wants a really cool experience with lots of other international humans :). I hope one day I can come back and for now I hope the next volunteers cuddles the dogs as much as I did <3 Best wishes, Amélie :)

It was a pleasure to host Syriac and Serena! They are a lovely newlywed couple discovering the world. They took all the tasks we gave them with a big smile. We were very happy when they asked to stay a few more days! We wish Syriac and Serena a beautiful life and a bright future together <3

Gloria was very helpful during a busy and exhausting time for me, despite the lack of entertainment I was able to provide , she was very understanding and respectful .
