How can I describe the wonderful stay we had with our family in Osmanye?! I am travelling with my 13-year-old daughter for a year to discover the world, and Workaway seemed like a good option for sharing the daily life of a family. After a long night journey from Istanbul in a very comfortable bus, Sultan welcomed us... like a friend we hadn't seen in a long time! We really felt like members of the Atalay family with Sultan and Aykut, Zeirah and Zeinep. Osmaniye is a quiet and safe city where you can walk around peacefully even in the evening and eat the best ice cream in the world. A few words in Turkish are always welcome, but we found several people to chat with in English (good job English Odjiam). As a woman travelling with a teenage daughter, I never felt uncomfortable. For our work, it really felt like being part of the family, walking Zeinep to school and picking her up, keeping the house clean, hanging out the washing and folding it. There is a great robot vacuum cleaner that is very talkative. We checked that the homework had been done, even we don't speak Turkish google lens helps. We also went to Sultan and Zeirah's schools to introduce ourselves and talk a little about our trip. Above all, we shared moments as a family, preparing meals (there is only one chef in the kitchen), playing Uno (my turn?), braiding hair, and having extraordinary experiences meeting fascinating people who helped us discover Osmaniye and the surrounding area, Turkish culture and its invaluable generosity. We attended two henna nights and a wedding, went to Adana and ate the best kebab in the world, had a picnic by the river in the mountains with friends (beware, a picnic with Turkish mothers is not just a simple sandwich, it's a whole logistics operation, including a samovar), visited the fairy tale park and attended a classical music concert... And all these thoughtful gestures made this trip a precious moment of humanity and kindness. The chicken soup when I was ill, sharing life stories, chatting and laughing while preparing tomatoes or boreks... A big thank you from the bottom of our hearts for allowing us to be part of your family, for explaining your worldview, for letting us experience Workaway and online school for Maelya, for sharing laughter and always making sure we understood each other. A few words about our fantastic stay in Cappadocia. On Friday evening, we took the night bus direct from Osmaniye to Nevşehir, then another small bus on Saturday morning to reach Göreme. We were lucky enough to stay in Urgup with a very friendly couchsurfer. The stay was sublime; the region is really worth the trip. I recommend preparing well and booking in advance. Then we returned to Osmaniye by direct bus at the end of the day. We came back with stars in our eyes. In a nutshell, if you want to live at the pace of a lively, friendly and open-minded family in a quiet town surrounded by mountains and forests, this is the perfect workaway opportunity. We thank you and sincerely hope to welcome you to Togo for new adventures!

Laudae was not just some visitor here, he's been a part of our family and community for 2 months. I remember he experienced a hottest weather and even snowy day here. I'm trying to find words to describe him, but he is really special person, so easy going, smart, easy catching everything around him so we didn't have to make any effort to make Laudae understand how to do things, so adaptive. I think that everyone would feel good in his presence, and would be happy to spend time with. Our dogs also miss him so much, Đole (German shepherds) especially, he has been looking for some stuffs by his scent for few days, after he left our place. Al in all, we have nothing bad to say, all the best about our Laudae, hope to see him again soon.

I stayed with Maike and Arne for two weeks and it was an amazing experience. Living in a large castle was truly unique! From the first day, I felt very welcome and like part of the family. Maike and Arne are amazing people — friendly, warm, and easy to talk to. We had many interesting conversations, and they shared a lot about German culture. They took me to a museum of Rostock and told me about the city’s history. The tasks were light — helping with rabbits, some gardening, and playing with their toddler. I had plenty of privacy and free time to explore Rostock, and they gave great tips on what to see. My room was spacious, warm and cozy, and the food was healthy with lots of vegetables. They were also very kind to provide gluten-free meals for me. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to explore Rostock and enjoy peaceful life in nature. I’m very grateful for this experience and for meeting such wonderful hosts.

I enjoyed my time being at The Roost. Mione was very welcoming, made sure that I had what I needed and Cath was very responsive from the beginning till when I arrived at the sanctuary and even made sure to check in on me when I was settling in. If you enjoy being in the peaceful countryside, don't mind a simple lifestyle, able to put in some hard work and physical labour, you will find yourself in good company of both the animals and the kind people here. I lived in the caravan while I was there and felt super well equipped to cook and live in. While the accommodation was "simple", my stay was definitely comfortable and well equipped with everything I needed to cook and feel cosy and warm on colder nights (heated blankets and dehumidifier!!!) The dogs are absolute sweet hearts and it's therapeutic to take care of the animals and go through the morning and afternoon routines. I shared the workload among a team of wonderful people (George, Ransom, Philippa and Henry!) during my stay there and am really grateful to have had an opportunity to arrive in Scotland with such kindness. The sanctuary was located conveniently between Aberfoyle that is reachable by bike and close enough to the Trossachs for adventures on off days.

It was a pleasure to host John for a week. He was willing to complete a range of tasks from painting window frames, water blasting, staining an outside deck to valeting my car ( a superb job - I particularly recommend his skills here) ! John has a relaxed and friendly manner , is honest about his health issues, which seemed easy to workaround. John was good company, with extensive interests and experiences and very good listening skills. He offered his assistance with meals, was interested in exploring the local area, and left his room tidy on departure. What more could a host want! I'd recommend John to other hosts.

My time here was a most wholesomely down-to-earth experience. Michele and all the ever-changing cast of characters were kind, open, interesting people to spend time with. I stayed a few weeks and helped prepare the grounds and facilities for the Erasmus project which was hosted this autumn. My tasks included building a pallet house (very cool project), cleaning things and places, as well as a little here and there to keep the farm going (chasing down pigs and goats, sometimes :) ). There was always ample instruction from Michele, and always the right tools available for the job. There are other people who come in and out as parts of the community living and working here. The week or so leading up to the project was a little stressful as it was just Michele and I working to get everything done, but we made it happen. After that I joined the international team to take part in the activities which followed, which was the coolest part of my time here. Michele also took me to a festival with him, provided educational opportunities, gave me local recommendations, cooked great meals, and even opened his stocks of medicine to me when I was sick. A good man. There are plenty of animals to hang out with, and a beautiful setting in which to exist. This place is only a short bike ride from the City Centre, and there are ruins and other fascinating places nearby to explore. I have recommendations if you go! — contact me on insta at @ captaincredo Thank you Michele, for your time, kindness, and education— I hope I've been of some help to the community. Til I see you again!

Charlotte, or Lotti as we got to know her as, is such a lovely person, with a calm, positive energy and a very sweet nature - the dogs loved and trusted her instantly, as we did! She was very helpful and would turn her hand to anything that was asked of her, like cutting back hedges, weeding, planting and walking the dogs. Lotti is lovely to have around and we would have no hesitation recommending her and we wish her all the best in her studies.

Emmi is super! She is full of energy with a great willingness to help and a real natural with animals. She even took the stitches out of our dog's leg which saved a big trip to the vet plus the fees! She looked after everything for five days while we went to a wedding abroad and we felt secure in the knowledge that she would put all her energy into keeping the animals well looked after and loved and we came back to a happy household! This really meant a lot to us as we rarely get away. Emmi then stayed with us for a few weeks after and it was always fun and interesting to have her around. I hope she comes back to see us, she is always welcome and all feathery and furry beings will be especially delighted to see her again.

Karine was such a good help. She was brilliant with the bees and was out early and late helping us extract the honey by hand! A very polite, helpful, smart and wonderful woman to have met and worked with. We hope to see you again! All the best :) x Brian, Michelle and Sarah

So hard to leave ! Gracias Angel por su hospitalidad ! I stayed for 2 weeks here, mostly on my own as it was slow season. Even though Angel was not much here he was very friendly, communication was perfect, tasks were clear etc. Taking care of this lovely place was simple joy 😊 Best part for me was having a fresh cocunut everyday after my sport routine ! Very easy to go to the center of Progreso with chicken buses (15minutes, 8pesos, every 10mins), then to merida (1hour, 27pesos, every 15mins). 👌 Note that the spot will change pretty soon, infos may vary. Important : buy some local mosquito repellent, they are pretty hungry here ! If you are a kitesurfer, you'll love it, if your are not, you will love it anyway !

Maximiliane stayed with us for one month. It was a most enriching and rewarding experience for us all. From the moment Maximiliane arrived she engaged fully with us as hosts but also with her environment. Maxi ( for short) is a very skilled lady. She has amazing DIY and craft skills. She painted, repaired and sewed with confidence and skill. Apart from that she was more than willing to help with building a wood stack for the winter and her gardening and cooking skills are excellent also. On a personal level Maximilliane is a lovely person always showing respect and empathy. She is genuine and honest. She availed of classes in our local yoga centre and swam in the Atlantic Ocean on many occasions. Overall we were very impressed with Maxi . Should you get the opportunity to host Maxi you will have no regrets. Thank you Maxi for everything.

Romane stayed with us for 6 weeks and she was a wonderful addition to our family! She is a warm and friendly person, who has a natural way with children - our three children adored her! She was happy to join our family for adventures but she was also independent and happy to explore on her own. Romane is smart, hard working and takes initiative. She didn't hesitate to jump in and offer to help in any situation. We really enjoyed spending time with her. Thanks for joining us Romane, we hope to see you again someday!

I spent a lovely, peaceful week and a half taking care of the land and animals while the hosts were away. My main duties were feeding the chickens and the sheep as well as watering the large vegetable garden. I also helped with various projects around the property and was encouraged to work on projects that matched my interests. I was provided with lots of food including fresh produce and eggs to cook for myself. The amenities in the hotel are great, I stayed in a private room with a private bathroom and a large balcony. I felt very safe in the area. I spent most of my time there while they were away, but the hosts were incredibly welcoming. They checked in multiple times and I was able to easily contact them when needed. There is another family that lives on the property who was also very kind and encouraged me to reach out if I needed anything. It is a beautiful, quiet place out in the mountains, about a 40 minute walk down to Arriondas, which is small but full of life. From there one can take buses to the beach, the Picos, etc. Without a vehicle it is possible to explore, but it is important to note that it does take some significant effort and time. As I did not have a car, I spent most of my time on the property. There is a lovely river to sit by and soak in. Thank you so much to Kristian, Aukje, and Sol for having me. Please say hi to Lily for me!!

We’re grateful to have had Oceania as part of our team! Her dedication, kindness, and positive energy made a real impact, not only in the classroom but also in the wider community. One of the highlights of her time with us was the nutrition talks she prepared for the women and families in our program. Thank you for being part of the family!

Dear Jorunn and Martin, You two were our very first Workaway hosts and we couldn’t have asked for a better start! Staying with you in beautiful Salhus was awesome. The place, with its great nature, peaceful views, the sea, and easy bus rides to beautiful Bergen, felt like home from day one. The work was always fair, flexible with the weather, and perfectly suited to us, but what made every day special was you, Jorunn. Your warmth, your humor, and those wonderful conversations about life, food, and the funny little things of every day made us feel like old friends. We miss those chats… and our cozy evening TV sessions so much. You both understand perfectly what Workaway is about, the balance between helping and discovering, working and living. Thanks for letting us experience that in such a kind and genuine way. Our goal was to make at least one Norwegian friend and learn something new (skills), and we got both, and much more thanks to you. We can’t wait to visit again and continue our delicious journey into Norwegian food (we still have some dishes pending!). And by the way, reading all the positive feedback from other Workawayers now makes us a little jealous… we kind of want to keep you all to ourselves! 😄

This was our first ever Workaway and it couldn't have been a more incredible 2 months! Jaana & Seppo were very welcoming and it honestly ended up feeling like another home for us. We learnt so much about the huskies and Finland. All the dogs were amazing and we loved getting to know all their personalities and having them stay over in the cabin! The work is very rewarding and we enjoyed the free time to be in nature, explore, hunt for auroras and use the beautiful sauna on the lake. Thank you so much for the experience - it’s not one we will ever forget 😊

Bob is such a generous and sincere person. I’m really thankful for all the help he gave me during my work-exchange stay and for teaching me Spanish every night. We did a lot of things together, and I learned many new skills from him. Thank you, Bob, for making my first work-exchange experience such a great one! I’m also really happy to have met such a wonderful person like you!

Sierra was a wonderful addition to our work team. She is confident, capable and diverse in her skills. She did a great job learning to cook breakfast for our guests and providing yummy baking. She willingly did a diversity of jobs around the place, and noticed when things needed to be done. Her attitude of kindness to our guests and fellow staff members was an asset. We wish her the best in her continued journey.

In the beginning I was planning to stay there for 4 days but already the first day I changed my mind because the place and Laura was so welcoming that I ended up spending two weeks there. The work is always correlated to your abilities and what you prefer to do, in the free time there are a lot of different walks from you can choose and the area is so relaxing that you will enjoy them for sure. I want to thank Laura because I felt at home and she always care and provide everything you need especially social interaction
