Sam and Craig were a couple of our earliest international volunteers. Right from the start, they both jumped in and got stuck into chores and quickly helped establish a much-needed live-in volunteer routine at our shelter. They were 100% committed to our animals’ care and they also helped with other jobs and projects on the property. As well as working extremely hard, both Sam and Craig were a lot of fun to have live with us and share our home and meals. Sam’s veggie lasagna is awesome! They stayed for over a month on their first visit, which was longer than planned, and they returned for a very welcome second stay. Their parting was extremely emotional because we all became such good friends and because of the bonds they built with our beautiful kangaroo joeys. Their contribution cemented my decision to engage Workaway volunteers for the future sustainability of my wildlife shelter operation, and as a great way of life. I wish them the very best and hope to see them again one day.

Lyra is a very loving person and willing to go local with us. She bond easily with my students and neighbors and everyone loves her. She have a good English and have great ideas in sharing at. She helps around the house, and seeing her getting along with my children is graceful. Time flies and hopefully meeting her again in the future would be beautiful. Thank you Lyra for coming into our lives. Love doing Zumba with you Love Ika

Léa was wonderful. She jumped into tasks without hesitation and learnt how to do everything quickly. She was creative in the kitchen and knocked up fabulous and tasty meals with incredible imagination for large groups of volunteers and friends. Léa tackled every job, including dirty ones, enthusiastically and without complaint and was completely dedicated to the care and welfare of my animals, who she treated with love. Léa was also a lot of fun, and I am so pleased to have shared my home and shelter life with her. She is welcome back any time!

Aline was the first long-term volunteer I agreed to host. She initially planned to stay for 3 months, but she stayed longer and then returned for another visit before heading back to Germany. I wish she could have stayed forever. Her love for my animals was inspiring. I truly can’t think of one fault. Nothing was too difficult for Aline. She was perfect. Happy, bright, intelligent, hard-working, caring, and lots of fun. Aline was a great team player, and she is a cherished new member of my family. I miss her so much.

I’m incredibly thankful for the time I was able to spend with their family and felt at home and safe from the beginning. Eirinn is the cutest thing ever, even though she can get exceptionally crazy sometimes (made me laugh a lot) and I think she is what will make every volunteering experience there quite different, due to the fact, that she is constantly changing and growing. I was mainly helping with the cooking, cleaning the dishes and playing with Eirinn. I feel like it wasn’t really about working, but to join the family life, spend time together, bringing in some positive energy and help with simple tasks, that were really not to much to ask for. Fernando and Mika are both really lovely and generous people, that made me feel really comfortable from the start and tried to help me with everything I needed. They introduced me to their friends, took me to the city, showed me some places around and would pick me up and drive me everywhere. The surroundings are quiet and butiful and I enjoyed my daily walks a lot. Cat and dogs are also really adorable, the dogs just sometimes get a bit crazy about the kissing and throwing sticks. I sincerely hope to come and see them again and wish everyone that finds there way there (I think children are also very welcome and Eirinn would LOVVEE to make friends and play with them!), will have as good of a time as I had. P.S. I fell in love with Mika’s mother Elizabeth, she’s amazing! Sending lots of love ☮️✌🏼

I had a wonderful experience with Leo, helping him with his ranch. So much to see around the ranch. It is an incredible place if you like nature and want to live a remote experience.

Abbey and I had the most wonderful time here for our first Workaway. Everybody was very friendly, accommodating, and made sure we were as comfortable as could be. You won't find better people. The apartment is very nice and cozy with a lovely fireplace, stocked kitchen, and private rooms for sleeping. You are only required to work 3 days a week and it is very flexible, giving you time to explore Ireland freely on your off time. We had to take a lot of cabs to farther away places, we would recommend renting a car for your stay if you are looking to explore further parts of Ireland. There is a bus stop about 3km away with access to Dublin and other cities. Ilija lives downstairs and occasionally shares the washer, dryer and oven. He's an amazing funny guy and made sure we had everything we needed. He always offered to drop us into town and give us rides to the shops. The work is not too hard and we really enjoyed the properties we worked on. They are scenic and peaceful. Some of the work included cutting bushes, painting, taking care of animals and light cleaning. You work from 8am to around 4pm with multiple breaks inbetween. Overall we had an amazing experience and are looking forward to coming back at some point. Thank you so much to Ronan, Marie, Ilija and Paddy!

Our stay with Victoria was amazing! We originally planned to stay 5 days, but she kindly made it possible for us to stay a whole week, even though she had friends visiting. Victoria is super friendly, charismatic, and always has something fun to chat about. On our first night, she surprised us with an incredible dinner and throughout our stay she was always attentive to our needs. The work was a small project restoring an old window, which turned out to be really fun. She was also super flexible with the schedule—if the weather was nice, her advice was to go out and explore the city instead. Thank you, Tori, for your generosity, your great taste in music and wine, and for sharing your beautiful home with us. We hope you keep going strong with all your projects!

I had the pleasure of spending two unforgettable weeks in October at Sophia’s family farm, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with open arms and treated like part of the family. Whether it was being offered a seat at the tea table with her family, invited to explore the local souk, or simply having their home opened to me, their warmth and hospitality were truly exceptional. Sophia herself is an absolute gem—kind-hearted, open-minded, and incredibly thoughtful. She made sure I felt comfortable and supported throughout my stay, and her friendly nature made every interaction a joy. You’ll be in excellent hands with her. The entire family is just as wonderful. Her father, Bob, is a fountain of good stories. He’s also got a great sense of humour and a generous spirit—especially impressive for a Dutchman! Sophia’s grandmother is very funny and a delight to be around. Her mother is equally kind and helpful. As for the work, I got to engage in a variety of tasks around the farm: watering plants, feeding and caring for the animals, planting, tidying up the garden, painting, and mowing the lawn. The work was rewarding and well-balanced. Their dogs are an absolute treat to be around; I especially loved Otto. This experience was a cultural exchange, a chance to connect deeply with a beautiful family. I wholeheartedly recommend staying with Sophia if you’re looking for a meaningful and enriching WorkAway experience.

Noah was such a lovely presence to have on the farm. Kind, respectful and sweet. Always open and willing to help and also open to new experiences. A true "yes man", he fully integrated with the family, other workawayer and the animals on the farm. He even offered to do extra chores and cooked for the family when I was not around. I don't think I ever heard him complain and he really made my job lighter. He surprised us with different gifts and showed his gratitude and appreciation in many beautiful ways. He worked efficiently and well. Despite potential challenges during work moments, he was never disheartened. Super easy to have around the house and farm, positive and looking for a laugh. Overall an honest and hardworking man. He woke up early every morning regardless, and stayed on the farm on his days off and continued to help around. My grandmother appreciated him enormously too. Thank you so much Noah for showing me how easy it can be to host, I am sure we'll see you again on the farm.

Mateus and the core team are incredible! I stayed one week and had the best time. Mateus was great with the pre-arrival communication and even picked me up from the airport. I did mostly maintenance jobs for the Air BnB, animals and garden. I felt like I had a lot of freedom in choosing how I wanted to spend my time. The crew were also a lot of fun to hang out and jam with (quite a few musicians around). We had a bon fire most of the nights I was there.

Quentin is a bright, hard working, strong lad with lots of skills on the land and in the kitchen. He worked hard on his English and improved a lot. Well liked by other volunteers. Recommended.

I had the pleasure to stay a week with Paule and Pasqual. From the very first moment, they made me feel completely at home with their warmth and kindness. We shared so many wonderful moments together—whether it listening to music, playing cards, cycling in the town or wandering through the streets of Toulouse. I loved our conversations and the chance to learn from each other’s cultures and experiences. My main task was helping to trim the hedge. It was a nice way to contribute, and a good balance between working and enjoying time together. Though it was only a week, it left a lasting impression and felt much longer—in the best possible way. Thank you both so much for your generosity, your delicious cooking, and for making me feel so welcome. I’m truly grateful for the time we spent together. Wish you the best for future and I really hope we’ll meet again🫶.

From the moment we arrived at Ollie’s beautiful property, we could feel something special about the place. It’s got this amazing energy — calm, creative, and full of life. We honestly can’t thank Ollie enough for being such an incredible host and giving us the perfect first Workaway experience as a couple! He’s super easy to talk to, full of stories, and knows so much about conservation and sustainability. The work was different every day, always meaningful, and never boring. Ollie’s passion for what he’s creating is contagious. You can really feel that you’re part of something special while you’re there. We left feeling inspired, grounded, and looking forward to return and see how it’s all grown! 🌿✨

16th August - 29th August 2025. Hello ello Torbjörn is good to work with, not over-bearing or anything. It was really interesting to hear his stories from the past. Definitely a knowledgeable man. I felt welcome and was very comfortable staying here. The day I arrived we had dinner with some of their friends which was a great start. But not as good of a start as going to the dump.( only for a short while after he’d picked me up from the airport) The view from their property is gorgeous. It was nice to have another workawayer staying at the same time. Having a partner to work with and having someone in the same boots as you sharing this new experience is definitely a plus. We all planned meals taking turns to cook. I cooked two meals which went down well. ( Although serving one at 10:15pm ) The room I slept in was lovely and their living room with the pool table is very cool. I liked all of the food. It was cool to experience something Swedish - kräftskiva - Although I’m not the biggest fan of seafood It was fun. I think Peter and Anna prepared that?, even with Anna's allergy, so thankyou. The 7 shots of Whiskey was very generous Torbjörn. Madeleine's cake she made was proper stuff. The work: ---- Lawn mowing, strimming, creating a parking space and ramp out of gravel ( Landscape engineering ). Log cutting using their machine. Moving old stoves via his ATV and a little mobile crane. Extension of an underground pipe. Getting to grips with the ATV was quite fun. Smashing some roofing tiles. Around 5 hours each day with a good break for lunch. ---- Sauna and a cold beer is a great combination. They have a fishing cottage and sauna next to a beautiful river which we went to twice. It’s in the middle of nature, very tranquil. You can hear three echoes if you shout. We had beer and hotdogs cooked on a camp fire here. 5 Hotdogs myself, cant complain. Madeleine uses one of the buildings as an antique shop.. It’s very cool, I have a very nice long jacket now, a great momento. Along with a couple other things. Thankyou Madeleine. Im quite fascinated by old stuff so I was in there for a bit too long you could say. I stayed in Ostersund for a day and slept in a hostel overnight ( STF Östersund Ledkrysset hostel ). I was hoping there would be people in the hostel to meet and go out with but there wasn’t really anyone. It was a nice hostel however. I parked up in the English pub for a good number of hours and then headed onto Marité. Having met some Swedes around my age and a cool Venezuelan guy. It was fun. Topped off with a big big juicy Kebab at 2/3AM from Kebab City. Peter and Anna stayed across from us in the other house. It was great to get to know them and have them around! Thankyou for all the photos Peter. I was lucky to have been there the same time as them. Östersunds FK is the greatest football team in Sweden. I long for some Norrlands Guld.
Thankyou Madeleine and Torbjörn. Wishing you all the best.

This is A very mature eighteen-year-old, he's very sensible, responsible, and interested in both work and culture for his age. He may not have much experience and isn't very good at many things, but he never says no and is eager to learn and work. However, you have to work with him and show him how. He's a pleasure to work with, he's easygoing, a quick learner, and he's interested in what he does. He's kind and enjoys good food. I recommend this back packer; he'll definitely help you and won't cause any problems.
