I don’t even know where to start because there is so much to say! Volunteering at Manfred’s shelter is a truly life-changing experience. It gives your journey a completely new dimension, full of meaning and depth. Caring for kangaroos, feeding them, cuddling them, brings so much joy. The more time you spend with them, the more you get to know their unique personalities, and you start to see them as the incredible beings they really are. It’s also an amazing opportunity to learn about Australian wildlife and to understand how crucial it is to protect these iconic little creatures. Manfred runs the shelter with devotion, enthusiasm, and love, and surrounded by other volunteers, everyone works together to keep everything running smoothly. The property itself is beautiful, waking up to the calls of cockatoos and kookaburras is magical. It’s a lively, welcoming place where you have space for yourself, but also plenty of opportunities to share great moments over dinner and conversations about life. If you’re looking for a meaningful, hands-on experience, love nature, don’t mind getting your hands dirty, and want to learn as much as possible, this is the perfect place. Manfred is incredibly kind, helpful, and full of humor, and he’s always happy to share his knowledge about nature and life. I’m so grateful for this unforgettable experience, which will stay with me forever. If I return to Australia, I know without a doubt that I’ll come back to volunteer at Manfred’s shelter.

What an absolute pleasure it was to have Shelley and Tony stay for a month! I’ve honestly never met a couple with so much enthusiasm and love for what they do. They’re reliable, experienced, and completely self-managing — the kind of people you can just trust to get things done beautifully. Together they transformed the place — the kitchen garden is now in great shape, the lawns are neat, trees and undergrowth cleared, and the whole property feels alive again. Shelley has a wonderful sense of beauty and harmony — she decluttered and decorated the rooms, made new flower beds, harvested and planted for winter, and added so many lovely touches around the house and garden. Tony is the go-to guy for any repair or construction job — from fixing gates and regrouting tiles to even building new garden paths. Nothing’s too heavy or too complicated for him! In just four weeks, they completely lifted the place — it looks so much better and more full of life. I’m super grateful for all their hard work and great company. Simply a dream Workaway couple. Thank you both from the bottom of my heart !

Staying with Martha and her family was an incredible experience! Martha is kind, caring, and always ready to help with anything you need. Her family is warm and welcoming — and their food is absolutely delicious! Martha even helped me organize my Kilimanjaro climb and a few other things during my stay. If you want to experience the real Arusha, you should 100% stay with Martha and her family

My stay in Santa Cristina d’Aspromonte with Eusebio and his son Francesco was truly memorable and the perfect introduction to Workaway. Both are extremely kind and welcoming, and they made me feel like part of the family from the very first day. I stayed in a very comfortable home in the heart of Santa Cristina, a small Calabrian mountain town of around 500 residents. Each working day we shared lunch and dinner together — Eusebio is a great cook, and our agreement was that he would cook and I would clean up afterward. The opportunity for full Italian immersion was excellent, and I even had my first taste of the local dialect! Since I stayed only one week, I decided to work a full day each day. The one-mile walk from town to Eusebio’s countryside property was peaceful and perfect for quiet reflection. October is a beautiful time to be there — chestnuts lined the lane, and the sounds and sights of the upcoming olive harvest filled the air. The work was physical but manageable for my 63-year-old body: cutting, transporting, and stacking wood, cleaning up around the farmhouse, raking and hauling leaves. I learned to recognize the differences between various trees, including chestnut and olive. Some of my favorite memories include mushroom and chestnut gathering in the mountains with Francesco and his colleague Rocco. One evening we worked past sunset to pile brush and burn it before the rain — the calm, the sense of accomplishment, and the bright heat of the olive wood fire made it a moment I’ll never forget. During my stay I also enjoyed the local community. I often stopped at the bar for an espresso, cappuccino, or hot chocolate — always with a delicious cornetto. One night I had a memorable dinner at the trattoria A’ Paisana, where the kind hosts Roberto and Elvira shared stories about life in Santa Cristina. One small note: Wi-Fi is available at Eusebio’s country house and mobile service in town, but honestly, you won’t miss it much — this is a place for slowing down and enjoying the simple rhythm of Calabrian life. With all my heart, I want to thank Eusebio and Francesco for their warmth, generosity, and for welcoming me as part of their family throughout my stay. I deeply admire Eusebio’s strong work ethic and passion for preserving traditional Calabrian practices in his olive groves — some of his trees are over 500 years old! I highly recommend this Workaway to anyone looking to experience the real Calabria and to help a kind and generous family continue their agricultural and cultural traditions.

This was my first experience with Workaway and it couldn’t have been better. I spent almost two weeks with Antonella and her family and they were all super nice and treated me like one of their family. The dogs were lovely and working with them was amazing. If you like being around dogs I definitely recommend you this experience. Thank you Antonella for such a lovely time. I hope to see you again 😊

for me this place and its people have been what I needed the most in the right time. I stayed for a month and I met the sweetest, kindest, optimistic souls who helped me more than I helped them for sure. I left this place with a different energy, new perspective and filled with gratitude, and I didn't realise how much I needed this before going there. The jobs during the retreats were easy and enjoyable; there was a yoga class once per week and I also could join a final class by Ashley before leaving! The time off is easily spent in nature, by the river or in the woods, reading or listening to nature sounds. Thank you thank you thank you for having me, I had the best time 🌈🫶

I had a truly wonderful time and experience with Robin and Sally! Their property is surrounded by native plants that they have planted and cared for so lovingly. Many birds come to enjoy the area, and I loved listening to their songs and watching them every day. I stayed for four nights, and it rained most of the time, but fortunately, I was able to do some outdoor tasks whenever the rain stopped. I worked on renovating parts of the garden paths, which was very satisfying! The meals they cook are fantastic! They are always passionate about trying new dishes using seasonal ingredients, most of which come from their own garden. Everything tasted amazing, but even more inspiring was their enthusiasm for experimenting — it reminded me of the joy of taking on new challenges! Both Robin and Sally have backgrounds in education, and they taught me so many things — about gardening, plants, birds, history, pottery, and more. They are still very curious and eager to keep learning, which I found incredible and motivating. It reminded me how joyful it is to learn new things and to study something deeply. Staying with them gave me so much. The experience inspired me to go to university to study what I truly want to pursue (I still need to figure out what that is, though!). I definitely want to come back — and next time, I hope to enjoy their beautiful garden and wetland under the sunshine!

I arrived a few weeks ago at the farm and have been enjoying my stay. If you enjoy nature and the great outdoors, this is a great place to volunteer. The farm is located in the mountains and you will likely stay in a very aesthetic bamboo hut. You will have wifi and electricity, but just in the restaurant area, so bring a power bank. The kitchen provides lunch each day and there are some shops close by for other foods. The work is different every day, but I've ave helped with concrete mixing, guest activities like archery, harvesting coconuts, making jam, and some general landscaping. The staff are all super friendly and welcoming. They will likely invite you to visit their nearby barangays which is always super fun. Nearby there is a basketball court and the locals there will invite you to play and also for drinks. To get anywhere further away it is easy to hitch hike or get a ride on a tricycle from the main highway. Overall the farm is beautiful and the people are amazing. You should definitely volunteer to work here if you are coming to the Philippines.

Greg was a great help and great company. I hosted Greg in October 2025 and he completed a number of DIY jobs. He is careful, thorough, meticulous and very tidy. I enjoyed Greg's company and chats - he is an interesting person. I have no hesitation recommending Greg to other hosts. He is always welcome back here.

My son Akram and I had an amazing two-week stay with Thierry and Florence in Briançon, France. From the very first day, they welcomed us like family, and we immediately felt at home. Briançon is such a beautiful place — surrounded by the Alps with snow-capped mountains everywhere, and the fresh mountain air made every day special. The weather was cool, between 5 and 15 degrees, which we really enjoyed. Thierry kindly showed us around the area, including the impressive Fort des Trois Têtes, and we also went trekking together to explore some scenic spots. Their home is lovely and full of warmth. One of our favorite moments was picking fresh apples from the big apple tree in their garden and enjoying them every day. Florence, being vegan, introduced us to many delicious vegetarian dishes — it was a new and wonderful experience for us. Akram also had the chance to practice speaking French with them, which was great for him. They even took us to a yoga center where we enjoyed a two-hour session — Akram’s first time doing yoga! In the evenings, we often played Mexican Train and cards, shared food, stories, and learned about each other’s cultures. Thierry and Florence are kind, generous, and thoughtful hosts who truly care about their guests. We are so grateful for this unforgettable experience and for the opportunity Workaway gave us to meet such wonderful people. Thank you, Thierry and Florence, for everything — we hope to see you again someday! With warm regards, Shiblee & Akram

We had a great experience staying with Jónina and Jon Levi, we stayed for 4 months, and since the first moment we felt a part of the family, the atmosphere was super welcoming, the communication was always clear, and the work was chill and well organized. We learn a lot from both of them (specially from Jon Levi, what a great boy). We recommend this experience to other workawayers! She also helped us to find a job, and by the end of our stay we couldn't share as much as we would wanted to, but we wanted to let you know "que estamos muy agradecidos contigo por todo lo que nos ayudaste y por los lindos momentos que compartimos. Muchas gracias!!!"

We stayed at Elza’s for two weeks and honestly wish we could’ve stayed longer! It was a great heartwarming experience, Elza is a lovely and friendly person, we had lots of great conversations on any chosen subject, we felt really comfortable there. Regarding the work it was also quite likable, we had a great and fun time while gaining experience on how renovating a house truly looks like. Responsibilities weren’t overwhelming at all, we could take a break at any chosen time and also had a lot of time off to go travel around :) Overall I wholeheartedly recommend joining Elza’s renovation journey!

From the first second when Deirdre, Annie and Margaret picked me up at the bus station until my last few minutes before I left I was a part of the family. I have learned so many things during the time I stayed with them, not only regarding sheep, and so much of it will be helpful in my job later. There were tons of funny moments, for example chasing a small sheep that just wouldn't stop running away, but also stunning experiences when we went to places higher in the mountains. It is like actually walking through a postcard! I enjoyed the peace and silence so much, you really calm down there, you almost have no other choice. No camera in the world could capture that. On the other hand, when coming back to the house, there was always something going on and always something to do, especially if the kids are at home. Either you have to check the sheep, walk the dogs, work with the ponies or do the homework with Annie and Margaret. You will never get bored! I would definitely come back to Ireland, to the amazing nature and the lovely people, of which Deirdre, Jerry, Matthew, Annie and Margaret are for sure a part of. Thank you so much for making my stay in Ireland such an exciting journey!

Bas (and his friend Felix), were part of our first batch of Workawayers! In the limited time they spent with us, they got to immerse themselves with our staff and the local community pretty well. They were also very hard-working (they even built us a bamboo bench! haha) Overall, we all had a pleasant time hosting them. Bas and Felix are both well-mannered but also fun and easy to be with!

Sarah and Luca stayed for 1 week with us . We felt really lucky to meet them. They are super friendly, polite and good hearted couple. They prepared delicious Pasta for everyone and we got a chance to learn Italian Pasta recipes back to back for 2 days. It was really appreciable as they cooked it with lots of love. We played games together and spend quality time with them. We would definitely recommend them to all. And we hope to meet you again. And we wish you will have amazing time in your future travels.

A little piece of paradise... Unfortunately, we didn't get to meet Jasper, but we received an incredibly warm welcome from Rose. She welcomed us to this little piece of paradise after midnight. As soon as we arrived, Randal, Farfa, Sachi, and Sardine (the adorable dogs and cats) also gave us a warm welcome! During our stay, we had the opportunity to clean the garden in a setting that was nothing short of magnificent. The icing on the cake was that Rose fully integrated us into her daily routine and introduced us to delicious falafel, superb beaches for swimming and snorkeling, as well as exciting games of Bohnanza. It was Ambre's first workaway, and probably her last for fear of not finding anything as good! We will be back with great pleasure in the spring. Thank you again for everything, Rose!
