Rima and Dennis were such kind and welcoming individuals! Despite them dealing with flood damage to their house, they were both very accommodating. The work was enjoyable and I was able to learn about gardening, Māori culture, and lots about their beautiful region. The sleepout was very cozy and private, which was great! Would highly recommend coming and volunteering with these two; they have such a lovely family as well! Thanks again :)

Charlie stayed with us for a little under a month, and his time here was filled with great energy and enthusiasm. He adapted well to the jungle life and the work in the sanctuary. One of the highlights of his stay was leading the very first Dungeons & Dragons night ever, an unforgettable and epic evening that had everyone laughing, imagining, and connecting in a whole new way. We’re truly grateful for his presence, his playful spirit, and the care he brought to the space. Charlie will always be welcome back.

Mallee spent a little over a month with us here, and what a gift it was to have him here. From the first day, his calm presence and strong sense of community uplifted the whole space. He brought a sweet and quiet energy that blended beautifully with the rhythm of the sanctuary. We were especially impressed by his devotion to maintaining the space — always attentive to cleanliness, harmony, and the wellbeing of the plants and gardens. Mallee consistently went above and beyond, showing genuine care for every corner of the sanctuary and for everyone who shared it with him. His contribution went far beyond work; it came from the heart. Mallee has a permanent home and an open welcome here.

Thibaut and Jelena folded me right into their little hilltop village family without missing a beat. The vibe here is both welcoming and no-nonsense, which I appreciate. I was immediately told the expectations and the rhythm of the house and did my best to get with the program. I enjoy doing dishes and cleaning the kitchen, so that was a pleasant task to have, and I *really* loved working on the house, where we were in the later stages of pre-roof framing. Thank you Thibaut for being perhaps my favorite construction coworker of all time. And Jelena for your very danceable meal prep playlists. These guys are just really sweet people, and melted my ice cold American heart. God I hope I didn’t destroy their car. Highly recommend helping out in this gorgeous place!

I was so lucky and I feel so grateful to find this place that is pure magic. Most of all, I am grateful to have met Ole, Dawson, Chris and all the volunteers and travelers that I now call friends. This place make you feel at home and welcome at all times, you will feel part of the community since day 1. So as a volunteer and traveler I would highly recommend the hostel.

Eric came to help me out at very short notice, which I was incredibly grateful for, as I was feeling quite overwhelmed at the time. From the moment he arrived, he jumped straight in with energy, care, and a fantastic attitude. Some of the tasks he helped with were physically demanding – shoveling stone into trenches, pinning down weed cloth, carrying heavy items, and helping me reorganise my space due to workmen being on site. He also contributed to creating new areas around the property, always with focus and care. Beyond the physical help, Eric was a real pleasure to have around. He was friendly and open with everyone (including the dogs) – chatting with the workmen, sharing good conversations, translating when needed, and even capturing lovely photos along the way. Every morning, he would set the table for breakfast without being asked and was absolutely superb at washing up afterward – always tidy and respectful of the space. Our conversations flowed easily, ranging from light-hearted chats to more meaningful discussions. Eric has a calm, thoughtful presence that makes him very easy to be around. His easygoing nature, strong work ethic, good communication, and respect for others make him a real asset to any host. Thank you, Eric, for your help, kindness, and all the little things that made a big difference. You are welcome back anytime!

What a beautiful experience 🫠 It wes my first time in Vienna and the first experience with workaway. Thanks to Marianne it was pleasant, she is lovely, generous with her time and knowledge. She have a beautiful house meticulously built by her father. Marianne lives not far from Vienna (Klosterneuburg) and I moved around very easily, by train bus to get to Vienna. I had the pleasure to go wiht her wine tasting at "Heurigen" produced by locals We went at Wiener Riesenrrd ( on the big Ferris wheel) and walk in the park. I was very happy to participate in the art workshop and dinner with his dear friends. We whant to Prosi supermarket ( where they sall products frome, Asia, Africa & Latin America. To market "Brunnenmarkt " and ate at her favorite turquoise restaurant 😋 We walked up to the hill near her house to admire Klosterneuburg and Danubio river. we did all these things with mutual respect of our needs. I gave a hand to Marianne and had also had a lot of time to visit Vienna on my own Thank you Marianne Thank you workaway

We had a wonderful time hosting Emilia at our place. She quickly became part of our family, and we shared many lovely conversations together. She was always helpful, friendly, and great with the kids. Communication with her was easy and pleasant. Her cooking was absolutely delicious, and her German with an English accent was a joy to listen to. She even played live guitar concerts in our living room, which brought so much warmth and good energy into our home. It was truly comfortable and enjoyable having her with us. Emilia is a funny, communicative, and easy-going person, and we can absolutely recommend hosting this wonderful US-German girl.

Celi: an exceptional woman, host, and now friend. During my stay and in so many ways she demonstrated an authentic and balanced approach to living, well-rooted in humility and respectful communication. I feel way fortunate that we connected because the disposition of my prior host was just the opposite. Indeed, life is full of pleasant and not so pleasant surprises. This one was the best I could have wished for. Without question, the charity work Celi has been doing, in Tanzania, Zambia and Kenya, demonstrates her proactive, generous, and open-minded nature. Her photography and collection of African handicrafts, adorning the inside of her house, speak to those qualities, as do the exterior’s off-beat art pieces, adding color, dimension, and curiosity to the sublime ridge on which her house is perched. For such reasons, especially to this seasoned WorkAwayer who lives to be inspired, not just for three meals and a bed, I am reassured and motivated to go on discovering the world through WorkAway. •Accommodations and Facilities: spacious, warmly decorated, intriguing, and as comfy as the sunsets in Occitanie. •Celi’s Kitchen and Cooking: well equipped, health-minded, and always delicious. Watch out for her all natural, no-sugar added pastries! •Work: From start to finish, Celi always communicated clearly, kindly, and promptly. Although she never asked me to do anything she wouldn’t do herself, the option to say “no” to a particular project was always there; that said, I never did. Why would I? I was having a full-on, collaborative, and productive good time. In addition to the long ditch that had to be dug, the drainpipes that needed to be installed, and gravel that needed to be shoveled, there were friendly French workmen to interface with and the sweetest dogs belonging to the kindest neighbors ever. It’s amazing what constructive exercise and uplifting “can do" attitudes can attract. By the time you read this, Celi's restoration/upgrading projects will be new; however, I do not doubt that her bright outlook and thoughtful ways shall remain radiant, just as Occitanie’s eye-opening sunrises. Work can be so fulfilling and fun! Thank you, Celi ~

Franzisca was good company and a great conversationalist. She was very organised around her time and would get up early and crack on with tasks without any prompt, using her initiative and taking charge of the project. Because of her work the yard was transformed! and I was grateful to have her as a guest, she even made a cool toy for my cat that I still use to this day. Great engineering, very sturdy! I would recommend Franzisca to any future host. Travel well Franzisca!

I can’t say Pedro is the best host in the world, but only because this was my very first Workaway experience, so I don’t have any real comparison yet. What I can say is that he definitely set the bar pretty high for all the next ones. I stayed with Pedro for about a month and had an amazing time. Everything written in the profile is true and accurate. During weekends or free time, we often did extra activities like hiking in the mountains, meeting his friends (who are just as fun and kind as he is), or enjoying a churrasco (Brazilian barbecue). Pedro is always willing to explain with calm and patience how the farm works, what he’s building and his future projects. If that’s not enough, here are some bonus points: he’s a great cook, Sadda (the dog) is adorable, and the views around the farm are simply stunning. P.S. Pedro and I laughed and joked a lot, so if you don’t already have a good sense of humor, I suggest you go find one somewhere before coming. It will make your experience with Pedro even better.

Ellie and Naima are sensational workaways. When they arrived I found them fun, friendly, tidy and well-organised. They went above and beyond what I had asked them to do and took our dog on the best walks of his life! What I really liked is that I set some challenging projects (they had to level some pavers to make the house safe to walk around) and they collaborated step-by-step using good communication, intuition and creativity to negotiate solutions. They are totally trustworthy. I would absolutely recommend them both to any future host!

I spent two weeks with Pedro, Leti, and Vega in Tordesillas, and even on the plane back, I already felt that bittersweet longing to return. Vega is the most energetic and adorable little girl - somehow we always managed to understand each other, even though I don’t speak Spanish and she’s only just learning English. In Pedro and Leti, I found two open-minded, intelligent, and kind-hearted people. From the very first moment, they treated me like a family member and showed me so much of their culture. I truly got to experience the real Spanish way of life! It was definitely an eventful two weeks! Many thanks for the Spanish lessons, the paella, the warm welcome, the family lunches, Salamanca… sometimes I even miss the Grand Prix! And ever since, I’ve been searching for where I could buy Canto 5 here in Budapest. En breve: it was a magical experience and it's still a wonderful memory! ¡Muchos gracias!

Staying at Tomas’s place was an amazing experience. Tomas made us feel in ease as soon as we arrived. He’s genuine to share everything he has out there on his land: space, love, delicious and healthy food, tools and knowledge, chores, exciting projects and calm moments. Each time I was there -because I’ve been back more than once- was so gentle and peaceful, and so cool at the same time, it’s hard to describe. The place itself is a little piece of paradise, really in the jungle. There’s practically no mobile network, but there’s ever more space for connection with nature and yourself. Fresh water comes from the spring, bananas and plantains straight from the trees, and eggs from jungle-roaming chickens. Life is abundant and ever present: little -and not so little bugs- monkeys, spiders and plants are all enjoying the same space that you’ll. It can be intense, but if you manage to open your heart, you really find magic there. In terms of work, there’re many options. You could do something different every day: maintaining life, plant care, diy and construction - currently, plenty of the latter. I appreciate so much that Tomas is open to accommodate everyone’s skills and interests. He’s a good teacher and he’ll really let you try things you’ve never done before; and he does that with patience! I’ve learnt so much about carpentry from him. There’s no strick schedule, you do your contribution whenever it feel right for you; though, to to avoid the afternoon heat, we usually started the day with the sun. I really recommend Tomas’s place if you want to experience life in the jungle up close, learn simlpe but essential life practices, pick up some wood-work skills, have eye-opening conversations and healing hugs.

I stayed for two weeks, and it was truly a wonderful experience. Playing soccer with the boys was one of the best parts of my stay. They were full of energy, passion, and love for the game. They were honest, pure, and had truly beautiful personalities. I looked forward to seeing their progress every day, and I’m confident they will become stronger and even better players in the future. Stacy is a passionate and kind-hearted person who always made sure I enjoyed my time there. When I wasn’t feeling well, she accompanied me to the hospital and took great care of me. I’m deeply grateful to her. With her passion and dedication, I’m sure her project will be a great success. She has the power to make people around her smile and feel happy. Her parents and the girls living together with us were also wonderful. Their kindness and sense of humor made me feel like I was part of their family. I really enjoyed sharing meals, playing cards, chatting, cooking, and spending time together in our daily life. It was also a joy to get to know Stacy and discover the warm atmosphere of Oyugis town. People there were so kind and friendly that I always looked forward to going out into the town. Thank you all so much for everything!

I was extremely lucky to have Viviana and Valentina come stay in my unfinished apartment in Porto for 6 days. I didn't have the space or the time to have them at my house outside the city, so I offered them a different project. My goodness, they were absolutely incredible. They were terrific communicators, completely independent and very hard working. I gave them a list of projects that needed doing, including installing a stair rail, a guard wall and hanging a sliding door. These were not simple projects, but they were both so capable that I felt completely fine leaving them with the tools to just work at their own pace and schedule. They got the jobs done- beautifully, and they left the apartment spotless. A more perfect pair of volunteers doesn't exist! I genuinely hope they will return to Porto and our paths will cross again. Consider yourself very lucky if they offer to volunteer for you!

Having Maria at my place was awesome ☺️ From day one she was helping with running the household, making lovely food and keeping it nice and clean. She arrived at my place when i had a big project on my hands. We had to remove the old shingel roof in preparation for the new roof. This ment extra hard work and long hours. But Maria handled it with no problem, and was eager to help. She also was very patient with me when i needed extra rest, and was happy to explore the area independently. I am very happy with all the help and good vibes Maria brought to my place. And i am glad i got to listen to some of her stories 🥰 Hope to see her again soon ☺️

To describe Joana in one word: fearless! Her mind works like an academic cientist testing new experiments in the life laboraty, nothing scares her, but she will ask all the questions to the minimun detail, just to answer: ok, I am used to that: camping in tropical rain mosquitoes conditions, cooking in the fire, having the dogs under her control and in the meantime, why not, taking the diving course! She didnt follow the ruls, she made them! (be aware upcoming volunteers, I have new standars! :D) After so long no one was staying in the tent she made a revolution and cleaned all the spaces and leave everythig super clean and tidy. Thanks Joana to bring fresh energy back! You are welcome anytime!

Dóri and I spent a week with Valerie, Philipp, and the kids, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the experience! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and kindness - and that never changed throughout our stay. Despite the language barrier (unfortunately, I don’t speak German), they included us in everything, whether it was a friendly barbecue or a big Wild West-themed gathering. The kids were not only incredibly sweet but also full of energy and openness -we never once felt left out. It was fascinating to get a glimpse into another country’s culture, and I’m only sorry we could stay for just one week. It was amazing to know we could always count on Valerie and Philipp, whether we needed a doctor or a delicious breakfast:) Huge thanks to the whole family - it was an unforgettable experience! (And greetings to the chickens, too!🐣)
