Anastasia stayed for a very short time, but I enjoyed her company. She helped with digging, painting, cooking and other stuff around the house. She also tolerated my broken Russian without complaining for several days, which couldn't have been easy!

My first Workaway experience with Nina and her dogs was wonderful. I really enjoyed my time there, even though the two weeks flew by. Nina is very friendly, attentive, and loving towards both her dogs and the people around her. You can have great conversations with her, laugh, work together, and I really like her outlook on life. I take my hat off to her, because taking care of dogs, raising them so well, and doing it all with heart is no easy task. I was able to learn a lot about dogs and their puppies 😍, but also picked up a lot from everyday life. I would visit her again anytime!

Paula stayed with us for two weeks, and hosting her on her very first volunteering experience was truly special. She has a gentle presence, a grateful heart, and a natural respect for the space and for others. From the beginning, she adapted well to our rhythm, always punctual, organized, clean and responsible with her tasks. It was beautiful to witness how open she was to learning — not only about Yôga, but also about herself. Paula participated in all activities with dedication, and even with the language barrier, she communicated with kindness and sincerity, contributing to the atmosphere of peace and cooperation in our community. She connected very well with another volunteer during her stay, created friendships, and embraced each moment with curiosity and sensitivity. Her calm energy, her willingness to help and her sweet way of being added harmony to our daily life. We also enjoyed sharing moments outside the Refúgio, showing her the region and its beauty. We are happy to know that she felt at home here — because that is exactly how we want our volunteers to feel. Paula is welcome to return anytime, and we wish her a beautiful journey ahead. She is so young and has all the seeds to become an incredible woman in the future. 🌿✨

Hello William, thank you for your kind words. You're the best host I've ever had, always attentive to making sure I'm comfortable and don't lack anything. You have a wonderful family that makes the stay a great one. I hope the school continues to grow alongside the children, who are wonderful and deserve the best. A hug to you and your entire family! Thank you for everything!

We stayed with Ian and Leanne for two weeks on their dairy farm and had nothing short of an incredible experience. We arrived at the end of calving season so we still managed to see some of the calves and experience what it was like taking care of them without the hecticness as things were winding down. Work consisted of cleaning out the milk drums and water buckets, topping up hay and meal for the calves everyday in the greenhouse. Once we were done with that, we helped with cleaning and topping up of feeders out in the paddocks for the bigger calves. As calving season was coming to an end, we also helped clean and store all the materials used for calving (straws, teats, milk drums, water buckets) and tidied up their warehouse. We helped once with the afternoon milking session and that was so much fun, would 100% do it again! Outside of work was where it became really extraordinary and unique. We managed to catch a wild goat on the property (which the other workawayers made into goat stew one night) and attended the first calf sale of the season with Ian and Leanne. They even bought us ice creams after. 100/10 experience, could not recommend it enough. Thank you once again Leanne and Ian for your hospitality and for so readily including us into you lives on the farm!

We were so sorry to say goodbye to Emma today. She has been one of our best workaways - recommended by her friends who 2 years ago were also among our stars. Emma has the winning combination of calm, caring energy and speedy decisive action. This makes her excellent company and conversationalist and an efficient, effective worker. She is self sufficient and self motivated and housesat for 10 days and we knew our home and animals were in good hands. In the time we spent together she helped me with some tech and graphic design. She also used her fashion background to help me clear out my wardrobe, with a sensitive, fun touch. We then tackled a much needed laundry room mess which is now organised and several bin bags lighter. I will remember Emma fondly every time I now do the laundry! She will be missed and we wish her all the very best on her travels and hope she visits us again.

Bibi has been one of our most productive Workaways ever. During her month with us, she worked very independently and made a huge improvement in our social media and marketing. Every day she created and posted a professional-quality reel and story for our Instagram. She also wrote, designed, and published a beautiful 35-page interactive guide to our property and nearby attractions — all built around a branding message she developed so naturally for us. Bibi shared many valuable ideas for growing our business and preparing for our restaurant launch. She worked with great focus and responsibility, interacted wonderfully with guests, and built friendships in the community that are already becoming real partnerships. A rare volunteer with top professional skills, good humor, and a generous spirit — Bibi will always be warmly welcome back

We had a lovely one week stay with Anushka and Nigel on their beautiful property. They were flexible with the work timings as long as we completed 4 hours of work a day. We usually started work around 9am and finished about 1pm which would be when Anushka would call us in for lunch. The work was varied and dependent on the weather. We moved mulch, weeded and transplanted plants. When it rained, we worked in the workshop dismantling a rotting bench and bundling sticks to be used for their fireplace. The sleepout that they built by themselves was exactly as pictured, clean and tidy. Their house, which we had our meals in everyday, was exquisitely designed and extremely beautiful (Anushka has great taste! 😉). Anushka prepared all our meals, except breakfast, and they were all fantastic! We had great conversations over meal times. There is no internet connection on their property except in the main house but we were allowed to lounge in the living room to use the internet when we weren't working. There is also a great selection of books, DVDs and music in the sleepout if you choose to disconnect. Thank you Anushka and Nigel once again for hosting us and thank you to Nigel for giving us advice on how to build our slat bed for the car!

This was my first volunteer project, and I’m really happy I chose this one! From the very beginning, Luc created such a welcoming and open atmosphere - it truly felt like home. He encourages you to step outside your comfort zone, not just in yoga, but in general. Whether it's trying new postures or even singing, there's always gentle support to explore and grow. Ribeirão Pires is a beautiful place - very safe, close to São Paulo, with everything you might need and a perfect balance between nature and city life. The place itself is a great community that makes a real effort to include you and make you feel part of something. During these 14 days, I learned a lot about yoga, but also a lot about myself. The experience was enriching and grounding, and I’m truly grateful for it. A big thank you also to Andreza - such a wonderful, helpful person with a truly warm presence. Luc showed me so much of the region, and communication was always smooth and easy. I would recommend this experience to anyone who wants to relax their mind, reconnect with themselves, and grow personally. I’d definitely come again! Thank you! 🙏

I had the pleasure of hosting Floor as a volunteer, and she was truly exceptional in every aspect. From the very first day, she showed kindness, dedication, and a genuine desire to help wherever needed. She actively participated in painting projects, gardening, morning moral sessions with the children, and kitchen support — always with positivity and enthusiasm. Floor built a beautiful connection with the students, showing them care, patience, and encouragement. Her creativity in painting brought life to our school environment, and her hardworking attitude inspired others around her. She integrated into the community effortlessly and always brought a warm, uplifting energy. We are deeply grateful for her contributions. Floor is not only a great volunteer but also a wonderful human being with a caring heart. I highly recommend her to any host or project. She will be a blessing wherever she goes. Thank you, Floor, for your meaningful support and the unforgettable memories you left behind with our children and team!

I spent just over 3 weeks here and I am so grateful for such a beautiful experience, which has left me with a full heart. The atmosphere is one of unique peace and a place where you can really delve deep into your meditation practice. I had practiced meditation before in other centers, but it was great to learn the method used in this centre, it was very inspiring and very well explained. I particularly enjoyed the group meditations, doing 108 bows in the mornings and wonderful yoga classes. The Sunims are so kind, caring, compassionate, I always felt so cared for and looked after. It was very inspiring to live with them and learn form them, understanding that it is so beautiful to live a simple life, close to nature. I was working mainly in the kitchen, which I really enjoyed very much and felt like I learned so much and it was a very enjoyable atmosphere which brings out the best in people. The food was absolutely delicious and it was a pleasure to be part of the process of preparing it. I felt like I had plenty of spare time to relax, dedicate to my practice and also study (as I was preparing an exam at the time). On one of my days off I visited a nearby temple which was very beautiful, but it was also nice to stay here to just relax, as the surroundings are so beautiful and peaceful. It was a really unique and enrichening experience for me and one that I will be forever grateful for. Thank you so much.

Idoia has been with us for two and a half weeks and, honestly, she's been a great help and excellent company. It's clear this isn't her first time working in a garden, and she knows what she's doing, being quite capable of working without supervision. We've also had some very pleasant after-meals conversations. A highly recommended volunteer. It has been a pleasure hosting you, Idoia!

Mathilde has lived with us for a couple of weeks. She is a very sweet and friendly person. We did a lot of jobs together, assembled furniture, painted doors and window blinds, moved stuff etc. and we also had time to socialize and play board games together. We had a big lunch with our reatives one day, and she was indeed like a member of our family. I would highly recommend this young lady to anyone. She is always smiling and ready to help. She is of course always welcome to come back here even just to say "hello".

I came here planning to stay for just four weeks — and ended up staying almost two years. It turned out to be one of the most meaningful, beautiful, and life-changing experiences I’ve ever had. From the very beginning, my dog Millie and I were warmly welcomed. We lived in my van for the first few months while being part of the volunteer house community, and we immediately felt at home. The atmosphere was open, friendly, and full of connection. We were a small group of volunteers sharing work, laughter, and many magical nights under the stars. The work was diverse and fulfilling — from building shelters and gardening to caring for the animals. Later, I took on the responsibility of looking after sick and shy dogs, giving medication, treating wounds, and helping them regain trust. It was very rewarding and allowed me to combine my medical background with my love for animals. Raúl became not only a guide and inspiration but also a true friend. I really admire his creativity, his courage to dream big, and his ability to turn ideas into reality. From him, I learned to see both animals and people with patience and empathy, to give them new chances, and to let go from the past. It wasn’t always easy — there were challenging times and moments when I reached my limits — but those moments made the experience even more special and helped me grow. We were wonderfully cared for, especially with Alberto’s delicious vegetarian food. Millie also changed a lot — she became calmer, more confident, and learned to live peacefully with other dogs (and even cats!). It is a truly magical place that shows what community, kindness, and living close to nature can change inside and outside of you. I left with lifelong friends, a heart full of gratitude, and the feeling that a part of me will always stay there 💛 If You have the Calling for this Place Go for it 💫
Comentário para Unique off grid community ... por Jana

My five-week stay at the Moinho exceeded all my expectations. It was my first real introduction to off-grid living. I arrived curious and left deeply grateful—for the land, the rhythms, and most of all, the people. Jess and her family have such a generous way of letting you into their lives. From the very beginning, I felt truly welcome. Their warmth, presence, and care create a sense of home that lingers far beyond the physical space. They deeply understand the art of hosting—not just making guests comfortable, but making them feel seen, valued, and included. Living and working alongside them has been a true gift. The huts are simple, beautiful, and thoughtfully equipped—offering just the right mix of privacy and connection to both the land and the people. There’s always something to do, but never any pressure. Whether it’s gardening, stacking wood, general maintenance, or helping with ongoing improvements, the atmosphere is one of learning and shared contribution. Over time, you naturally grow into more responsibility, finding your rhythm and taking ownership in a way that feels empowering. I learned so much about off-grid living, and especially from the land itself. I was in awe of the vegetable garden—how it provides almost everything for our meals. And then there’s the valley—lush, alive, and endlessly inspiring. It never gets old. The river, the forest, the constant hum of nature… it’s a place where stillness and movement co-exist. I spent siestas in the hammock by the river, completely at peace, and hiked through the woods in the mornings, snacking on berries and wild grapes along the way. All in all, a very special chapter.
