This was our first workaway experience and the best thing we could have done. We were kindly invited and stayed for 3 weeks. Everyone at the house is extremely welcoming and kind and we felt very comfortable here. We spent our time doing a range of tasks, some cooking, organising, house work, dumpster diving, and we also spent time in the garden weeding and sanded and oiled some floors and doors aswell as helping out on a farm they own shares in. Food is cooked for everyone in the house at dinner and is always filling and nutritious. There were also some events at the house while we were visiting, such as a küfa which we helped cook for and everyone is very politically active which was great to see and be apart of. In our time off we had heaps of fun going rock climbing at the nearby bouldering gym (2 min walk), went on lovely walks through the many huge parks and by the river, and where taught a bit about foraging mushrooms by one of the house members. We also had alot of fun playing board games and singing along to the piano with members of the house. They kindly lent us some bikes and we spent alot of time travelling the very bikeable parks and streets, enjoying the river spree and the changing of the leaves in autumn. There is alot of nature in Cottbus and it was very beautiful! They also have two cheeky cats Schlonni and Pantii, who we fed and bonded with, sometimes they would come sleep in our room which was always nice. We could not recommend staying here more:).

Erdees stayed with us in August, and it was a pleasant experience having him here. He was respectful, independent, and easy to communicate with. He helped with the dogs and daily tasks responsibly and showed good understanding of needs of the dogs. Everything went smoothly during his stay, and I appreciated his calm and reliable attitude. I’d be glad to seehim again in the future and the dogs too :)

Johana and I spent the summer here sharing responsibilities in house keeping and breakfast preparation. Quality and attention to detail are key here as this castle is top tier and demands quality and care. Most of the summer was pretty relaxed work wise but of course it can get busy from time to time. In contrast, you will have the chance to live in a very peaceful and quiet Austrian village. The locals are friendly, the surroundings are beautiful, you have a little grocery store that sells everything you will need. It’s very easy to forget the rest of the world exists out here. Don’t expect to find much on offer in the town, it’s very small. Transportation is good. There are lots of commuter busses that connect you to vienna and the surrounding villages. It costs 5/6€ one way to go into the nearest town and 28€ to Vienna. So it’s quite expensive to get around. Better to have a car. The accommodation we had was basic, but fully functional. The flat was recently renovated and everything was in perfect working condition. This is a family business. The family has owned this castle for more than a hundred years (since 1892). It is very important and close to them and as such they’re all very involved. We shared breakfasts together and had plenty of time to get to know each other over the summer. We were well taken care of, but expect to work first and foremost. In the end, for Johana and I. It was a very interesting summer. We had lots of time to grow closer to one another, and we became life long friends with our roommate, Christine. I think this experience is worth it absolutely, but I’d go into knowing what you’re getting yourself into as I’ve tried to outline here. This place is best suited for a couple who has each other, or someone who doesn’t mind a bit of solitude/isolation and desires more than anything a peaceful summer. Even better someone who wishes to come and stay for many future summers and commit to a long term work relationship with the family.

Mateusz and Natalia stayed with us in August, and it was a very good experience having them here. They are a reliable and respectful two friends who quickly adapted to our routine and environment. They were great with the dogs — patient, attentive, and confident in handling them, which was very much appreciated. They helped with various daily tasks and approached everything with a practical and responsible attitude. Communication with them was easy and straightforward, and they were always willing to lend a hand when needed. We also shared some pleasant conversations and moments together, making their stay both productive and enjoyable. It was a positive experience, and I’d be happy to see them again in the future! :)

Pamela stayed with 10 days during September, and it was a truly lovely experience having her around! From the very beginning, she showed herself to be responsible, kind, and proactive. She adapted quickly to our home and routine, and my dogs took to her right away — she treated them with great care and affection, and they clearly enjoyed her company. Pamela helped with daily tasks around the house and with the dogs, always doing everything with a positive attitude and a smile. She was attentive to details and followed all instructions perfectly, which made things run very smoothly. Beyond her help, I really enjoyed spending time together and having long, interesting conversations. She’s such an open-minded and easygoing person — we shared many laughs and good moments that made her stay even more enjoyable. It was a genuine pleasure hosting Pamela, and I’m very thankful for her time and presence here. I hope our paths cross again one day — both I and the dogs would be very happy to welcome her back! 🐾

Fiona and Louisa stayed at my place for about a month, and it was truly a wonderful experience having them as Workawayers! Despite their young age, they are both incredibly responsible, hardworking, and capable — even with a demanding breed like the Belgian Malinois. My dogs absolutely loved spending time with them, and they took excellent care of them, always following my instructions carefully. They managed to build a very special bond with my dogs, and it was heartwarming to witness. When I was at home, I also really enjoyed spending time together — their positive energy and enthusiasm are contagious! They were easy to communicate with and always kept me updated while I was away on vacation, which made me feel completely at ease knowing everything was in good hands. Overall, it was a truly pleasant and enriching experience hosting them. I’m very grateful for all their help and kindness, and I sincerely hope to see them again in the future — my dogs would be just as happy to welcome them back as I would! 🐾

It was a huge pleasure to host Jef during our growing season this year. He was the perfect volunteer and guest, always willing to help, adaptable and easy going. He has a high level of work ethic, didn’t once complain, even though it’s not always an easy stay on our homestead. I would highly recommend hosting him and hope he returns to visit us again.

I spent three weeks at the monastery and had a really great time! It was very inspiring, and I learned a lot from the community. The lifestyle there is quite different from what I’m used to, which made it a truly enriching experience. The work is very varied and you can say what kind of work you like more and they will try to make it possible. I was working mainly in the kitchen and also in the garden. I’m not a very religious person myself, which was very much respected. I felt warmly welcomed and met so many wonderful people. Thank you so much for everything!

Obrigada por tudo! I stayed at Paula’s place for one week in the end of September. I slept in the Yurt, which isn’t waterproof and can get chilly at night. Since the weather-forecast showed rain for two days in the middle of my stay, Paula suggested on my arrival (in Tavira), that I could stay in a youth hostel in Tavira for two nights, which I eventually did. Paula drove me to Tavira and back to her place after two days. I really appreciated the thoughtfulness and effort! We usually worked in the morning for about 2-3 hours. Be aware that the gardenwork can get physically exhausting, but it is also very rewarding. I cut cacti and weeds, dug holes and installed a wooden archway with Paula. After lunch the temperatures got pretty hot, so we didn’t work then. This means, you get a lot of time to yourself. Think in advance, if you can handle so much time alone. For me it was perfect to read, write, reflect or go on walks in the beautiful countryside. I loved the deep and philosophical talks I had with Paula and hearing about her projects, interesting life and adventures. Thank you for the amazing vegetarian food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and the insight into a sustainable life in the countryside of southern Portugal!

I had such a great time with Annette! She’s super warm-hearted and open-minded, and you can learn so much from her, about different cultures, art, permaculture, traveling, and life in general. Annette is a wonderfully scattered artist, a real hippie, and just someone who’s really fun to be around. You can have a lot of great, deep, and also funny conversations with her. She truly cares that you feel good and that you also get to experience a bit of the local culture, she knows a lot about it, so you can learn a lot from her! The room is amazing (honestly one of the nicest accommodations I’ve had on Workaway)! There are plenty of projects around the property, mostly outdoors, so it’s great if you enjoy hands-on work. The area is beautiful, and I can genuinely recommend spending time with Annette, it was such a lovely experience!

Natalia worked a few weeks in our hostel as a receptionist. All was great! She is super fun to have around, nice and social with the rest of the team, and the guests. She has a great laugh. ; -) Also speaks English, Spanish, Italian, German.. all perfectly. Easy going and very responsible. She is already a grown-up which makes everything soooo much smoother. Thanks Natalia and wishing you all the best!!

I want to express what a great person Ben is, he arrived on our farm just in time to help us in the biggest way possible. We had to travel away from the farm for a few days, and left Ben in charge of feeding all the goats and dogs. He was so reliable and was a pleasure to have around. He’s competent, willing and efficient and would be an asset to any application. He never complained and was a lot of fun!

Grazia and Oliver were a pleasure to have on the farm. They completed tasks as asked and even a few more we didn’t have to ask. Competent workers who communicated well and got along with everyone. They never complained about the work, and completed it with a positive attitude that was felt all around. We would like to have them back someday

We had the absolute pleasure of hosting Gaia for three weeks, and we couldn’t have asked for a better volunteer. She stayed with one of our host families, and they truly loved her – she was incredibly respectful, responsible, and always attentive to the house and those around her. At school, Gaia quickly became a valuable part of our team. She was always ready to take on new academic challenges and brought great energy and commitment to our students. Whether working independently or as part of a group, she was reliable, proactive, and positive. Gaia also brought her own special touch to our community. Not only did she cook the most amazing tiramisu (seriously, the best we’ve had!), but she also organized salsa lessons for the community – a huge hit and a beautiful way to bring people together. Thank you, Gaia, for your time, your dedication, and your big heart. You’ve left a lasting impression on our students, families, and community. You’ll always have a place in our hearts. ❤️ If you have the opportunity to host Gaia – do it. You won’t regret it!

My stay at Dina home was amazing. For my first Workaway experience, I couldn’t have hoped for anything better. Dina’s welcome was wonderful, her home is a true haven of peace, and the region is incredible to explore. I’m leaving with wonderful memories. I’m very grateful to you for this experience, Dina. Thank you so much.

My boyfriend Hamid had the idea of, when visiting Jordan, staying at a camp at the desert. When looking for a place to stayed, we valued so much the energy the person was making us feel. Ever since we contacted Suleiman through Workaway, we knew he was going to be the right person. He was kind since the beginning and, also, during our stay 🙌🏼 We spent almost 10 days with him and we got to explore Jordan by the usage of his driving in exchange of money for gas. He would always give us options or recommendations to do around the country. He had many contacts and is a very knowledgeable man of his land 🇯🇴 In fact, this is one of the things we loved about staying with Suleiman. He shared with us many interesting facts about the Bedouin lifestyle and stories that nurtured us more than anything! The best memory we shared with Suleiman was the night we spent together at the desert. He prepared a delicious meal for us before admiring the stars and the silence at the desert of Wadi Rum and was just an amazing moment I hope everyone gets the chance to experience ✨️ We got to meet part of his family always drinking the really amazing Jordan tea, or Jordan whiskey like they say! Even, we got to attend a Jordanian wedding which made us be more approachable to the culture 🙌🏼 Most of our time was about exploring the country of Jordan, Suleiman wanted to make sure we had a good time. Other than that, we completed simple tasks at the hostel like cleaning, preparing rooms or serving tea. Sometimes we felt that communication could have been better from both parts, but overall, he is chill and an easy going person ☀️ We really wanted to appreciate the time he has dedicated to us. Despite the difficult times regarding the war that has made things a bit complicated, we have always felt the care and love from Suleiman's heart. And, without forgetting about the amount of laughter he brought to our days in Jordan 🤣 جزيلاً شكراً Last but not least, FREE PALESTINE 🇵🇸✊🏼

I was living with this amazing family for about 6 weeks and there is absolutely nothing I could criticize. I had plenty hours spent by playing with ziggy and it was just always so much fun. Because it was right at the start of spring I helped charlotte to give the garden a good clean up. Their place in the middle of a provincial parc is just soo beautiful and you can do beautiful hikes outside their door. I was also allowed to use their car, which made my stay even better because I was able to do a little roadtrip to Tofino. I just had a really nice stay, with nice suppers together, playing cards and boardgames, playing a lot of Lego with ziggy, being outside but also having enough free time to explore Victoria. Thank you :))

I stayed with the family for over 5 beautiful months in summer/fall of 2024. Not only is Alaska and the Kenai peninsula an amazing, wild, and beautiful place to visit but if you are going there, you have to know the family. Knowing them and being a part of their lives for nearly half a year changed me in the most profound ways. Knowing them, seeing and feeling their joy and passion for life and love, kickstarted a new growth spurt for me. Helping them around the house was not a chore, it was a joy. I felt like I was part of their family, and I cannot describe in words how amazing it feels to be welcomed to a family and experience it in such a way. The house had so much warmth and I fell in love with their dogs, each and every one of them! So much so, I tattooed all their names on me! I still love them all so much. I cried as I said an individual goodbye to each one, and I think about them, and even dream about them, and talk about them and the family all the time to everyone I meet around the world. I love their horses, their cat, and even their vegetable gardens and berry patches. I housesat for them while they were away, and I missed them while they were gone (though Sadie the lab was the perfect best friend to keep me company 24/7). I will always remember how we had home-cooked dinners with veggies straight from the greenhouse and watched the Summer Olympic games. Family. They shared with me so much about Alaska and gave me plenty of time to explore the state. In fact, I took my bicycle up to Denali, I visited Anchorage, Seward, Talkeetna, Homer, Cooper Landing (recommend on a sunny weekend!), ran an ultramarathon in Fairbanks, and did lots of hikes and cycling nearby. I saw a lot of wildlife! Bears, Moose, Caribou galore! If you are lucky enough in your life to get the opportunity to do workaway with the family, do yourself a massive favor and take it! It changed my life.

I stayed with Dionny for a week, and it was truly one of the best experiences of my life. I really enjoyed spending time with Dionny, Dionny daughter, Margarita, Valentina the dog, and Virginia the sheep. It was my first Workaway experience, and I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better one. As a digital nomad working remotely, it was important for me to have a stable internet connection, and it worked perfectly the whole time. There were a few short power cuts in the village, but they didn’t last long and didn’t interrupt my work. Dionny was incredibly thoughtful and made sure I had everything I needed. She was kind, generous, and made me feel completely at home.
