Zoé was a fantastic volunteer . She is warm, motivated, and easy to work with. She showed genuine care for the dogs and the project, and we truly appreciated her positive attitude. She can come back anytime!

I loved my stay at the Ranch, and I’m very glad I chose it for my first Workaway experience. It was such a positive introduction to work & travel, and I’m truly grateful for it. I found the host to be a very understanding, kind, and flexible person. I was lucky to go on a few rides and even receive some riding lessons, which I found incredibly helpful! The view from the Ranch was absolutely breathtaking – I just couldn’t get enough of it. The animals were lovely, and most of them cooperated really well when it came to tasks involving them, which honestly impressed me. There was quite a bit of physical work involved, which kept me fit – but if you don’t mind a bit of a workout from carrying straw bales or completing tasks that involve walking up and down the slightly uneven terrain multiple times, and if you love animals and enjoy working with them, then this is definitely the right place for you. As someone who loves animals, enjoys being active, and feels at home in nature, I felt very comfortable there and would absolutely recommend this experience to others who are the same. I’m really looking forward to coming back one day!

Melanie was a kind and positive presence at the shelter. She worked with care, was reliable, and brought a friendly energy to the team. We’d be happy to welcome her back anytime.

Jonathan and Calla are wonderful hosts and just great people to be around. I had a lot of fun and great conversations with them and it felt really special to be part of their family life for a short time. Together with their sweet boys and cute dogs they made me feel at home. The tasks that I did mainly focused on improving or maintaining the land, trees and vegetable garden. It was diverse and I could plan my day and tasks how I preferred. It was great to see and talk about their vision of the land. On how it can be the most natural and beneficial for growing food and also inviting for wildlife. There are so many great ideas yet to be realized! I really enjoyed the beautiful and quiet area, the kitchen dances and the family dinners. Thanks Jon and Calla! I can't wait to see how it all develops in time. I hope to make it back soon!

I have had an amazing experience in Salaverry! :D The host (Shegu) is an amazing and inspiring guy who took on the challenge to found an NGO at a very young age to help the people of his town, Salaverry, which, to me, is impressive. He asks you for a contribution of 5$/day, but you also get breakfast on the house, and the chance to do both sandboarding and surf with the organization's materials, which sounds very fair to me. Shegu is a very kind person who's always making sure that you're having a nice experience and, even though he doesn't speak English (yet), he's always approachable and does his best to make sure that everything is to your liking. The experience I had is one of the most raw experiences one can get. The conditions are very different from what I was used to (though you still have access to, for instance, really good internet) and the culture is as local as it gets. You live quite close to the beach and to some massive dunes behind the house, which is great as you can go for a swim, surfing or sandboarding at any time. You get the chance to try to teach English to some really motivated kids that, otherwise, wouldn't really have the chance to learn it, and also to exchange life experiences with them, which can both open their minds and feed their ambitions to experience other adventures outside their town/country. Teaching and spending time with these kids will also remind you how lucky (or unlucky, in some scenarios) you are and how many things there are that you take for granted and that don't exist in other parts of the world. And it will take you back to a time when life was simpler, when people didn't have much, but they made do with what they had and they were still happy. I have really enjoyed my time there, and I did feel like I could contribute to improve the livelihoods of people in Salaverry. If that's something that you value, I highly recommend that you try it out, you won't regret it. PS: after the first wave that I manage to properly surf (standing on the surfboard for some 20 seconds), I was stung by a diamond ray! It left quite a nice hole on my right foot, Shegu and his friend quickly transported me to the emergency room of the hospital and I was very well taken care of, both by the doctors, nurses and personnel, but also by Shegu and his friend, who carried me from the water to the truck and from there to the hospital. Though it was a bit of a traumatic experience, given the pain that it caused, it also ended up being a nice story to tell, given how kind and supportive everybody was! Within one week, I was back in the water surfing! ;)

Rosella stayed with us for a week, and honestly, it felt like having a dear friend at home rather than a Workawayer. From the very first moment, she blended in so naturally. She is kind, funny and always ready to help with a smile. She brought such a calm and positive energy to the house, helped with everything beautifully, and did it with so much care. But what really made her special was her heart, her kindness, curiosity and the genuine connection we shared. We laughed, talked for hours, cooked together, and it felt like we had known each other for much longer than a week. We already miss her, and we’ll always keep a place for her here, both in our home and in our hearts. 💕 Rosella, you’re always welcome back anytime, more as a friend than a guest!!

Had one of the best workaway experiences here, and met some great friends spending the evenings playing board games and eating leftover desserts. The atmosphere is absolutely lovely, a very chill space with very reasonable work! Would definitely come back to spend time there again - I miss it so much. Thank you for everything!

Thank you thank you, what a wonderful time I’ve had in Rigi for the past two weeks. Andrea, I felt comfortable from the moment I met you and Tilo and continued to feel so welcome and cared for during my stay. The wonderful meals and stories we’ve shared will stay with me. Thank you for treating me with so much warmth, kindness and openness- I only hope I did the same for you. Please say hello to Livvy, Robin and Tilo from me, I’m missing you all. Some days we would ‘go with the flow’ and other days we would have more structure depending on the tasks that needed to be done. I would help with tasks like feeding the donkeys, walking Tilo or helping with outdoor work (jobs that needed to be done before winter really arrived). The balance between work and time ‘off’/ relaxing was really considered by Andrea which was appreciated. I really enjoyed being surrounded by mountains and the peace they gave me, I remained in awe of the beautiful nature here. Of course I would recommend and am hoping I can return sooner rather than later! Best wishes always

Eva and Simon were ideal. Kind, productive, good vibes, hard working and easy going. They completed so many projects and worked well as a team. One thing that made a big difference in our lives was that they touched up the exterior paint on the treehouse and our house. They also worked with us to create and install a large shade cloth roof with a waterproof layer over the deck. Always helpful and polite. They kept the treehouse tidy and were respectful always. They have been traveling by bike thru South America, so I admired their spirit of adventure. Glad they came to us. Would love to have them back any time.

The volunteering experience at the school was truly wonderful. We got along very well with the other volunteers, creating a close-knit group full of energy and enthusiasm. The activities we did with the children were amazing filled with smiles, curiosity, and moments of genuine joy. Each day was unique and special, and seeing their smiles and enthusiasm filled us with gratitude. Living all together in Weza’s house was something special: he and his family welcomed us with great kindness and helped us discover local cultures up close, making every day an opportunity for growth and genuine sharing. It was an experience we will carry in our hearts.

Merci !!!

What can I say. The most delightful couple. This was their second workaway and they were polite, friendly and respectful. They did some great jobs around the house and painted my clinic, planted 72 plants and helped with the cat!. Always willing and helpful. We spent some fun evenings together and Sophia made two huge tiramasu. They asked to stay little longer and it was a pleasure to have them. 100% recommend.

I volunteered here for around a month and my time flew by. I genuinely cant recommend this place enough. I came into this place with very few expectations and left full of new experiences. I made lasting friendships, and gained a new perspective on nature and how to live with it. Some highlights include, scrubbing the algae off the steps, making the walking experience a bit safer for everyone. I also harvested so many new foods, jackfruit, cacao and an incredible amount of delicious sapote, I also got experience with using a dehydrator to turn the Jackfruit into fruit leather and the grinder to turn the cacao into chocolate. I also experienced my first Temescal Ceremony, which I'm still trying to find the right words for as it was a very powerful experience, one I hope to experience again someday. So many nights spent around the campfire talking and teaching and playing drums and singing and feeling the absolute freedom that the jungle offers. I hope to one day return to see the cactus' I planted grow and to see the greenhouses given the altars and respect they deserve. I want to see the kitten that was adopted during my stay fully grown into a full blown mouser and to say hi once again to my friends and teachers Chris and Celia. 1 month is definitely not long enough, and I highly encourage anyone who has the opportunity to visit either for Temescal or for a longer more involved stay, Definitely. Do. It.

Ok, I thought that my hands were never going to be clean again after the leather tannery. But here I am, typing a review with clean hands and very gratefull for all the crazy experiences Bioleder gave me. Well, their way of life is not crazy at all according to Alex and Riki. Maybe just back to the origin? And I feel absolutely inspired. Inspired to rethink the way I consume meat, want to make a living and where and how I want to live. I wanted to work with dead animals for quite a while now, because I think that's really important when you eat meat. A leather tannery, especially this one, was the perfect place. I want to know how the world works and the leather tannery gave me an insight in biologics, chemistry and creativity. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge Alex! Because there were no other volunteers I had a whole house for myself. That was great because then I could make noise on the leather sewing machine until 2 am XD. I really enjoyed cooking and baking and making fire to heat up the living room, so cozy! Riki and Alex were truly the most generous hosts ever. Whenever I had a problem they were there to help and they always made sure I had plenty of food (thanks for the amount of butter!), preferably from the garden. We made some cool trips to a medieval festival, Hungary and the local market, which I really enjoyed. I also accompanied Riki to her dance classes, great time! Thanks a lot for these 5 weeks. Whenever I hug my sheeppelt I will think of my time in the organic tannery in Austria : ) dankjewel (doesn't it sound like dankeschön?)
