Martin was truly an amazing addition to our team! From the very first day, we were overwhelmed by his energy, positivity, and constant smile. Always motivated, always shining — and incredibly hardworking! We honestly didn’t expect to receive such great support, especially in the kitchen. Thanks to Martin’s skills, we were able to improve our kitchen routines, bring in more structure, and create so many great things together. Working with him was not only productive but also so much fun! We really grew fond of him and are so grateful for everything he contributed during his stay. We wish him all the best for his studies and his future — and we truly hope to see him again someday!

Peter cooked delicious vegan food and taught me a lot of useful skills in carpentry. The days were quiet and peaceful and Omachi is a fantastic town to cycle around, visit an Onsen and other truly Japanese cultural things. the house is a gem in the Japanese countryside and the Alps.

Lovely to have Johanne around, she was always asking how to help and took a lot of initiative. She made some awesome pickled veggies that will last through the winter. Johanne was thorough at cleaning and picked up using a drill very quickly for a novice.

Lilly and Ivan are beautiful heartfull people. They are very generous. We had wonderfull deep talks. Delicious meals together that Ivan adapted vegetarian especially for us, and with succes because it was as good as Lilly's cakes :-) we wish we see them again one day. Sandra and Vincent

Aimi stayed 2 weeks and looked after the cats and horses, cleaned the house and windows and did some outside painting. She was a fun, reliable volunteer with a great sense of humour and perfect English. Highly recommended.

Teresa came to us through the recommendation of a friend who had also worked here, and we are so grateful she did! From the very beginning, she helped us so much and quickly became an essential part of our team. We didn’t expect someone to take so much initiative and responsibility — she completely took over the kitchen with great care and made sure everything ran smoothly. Teresa worked wonderfully with everyone, was reliable, and brought such a positive spirit to our place. On a personal level, we really grew fond of her — it was always a pleasure to talk with her and share time together. Her attitude towards work and life is simply fantastic. We would have loved to keep her with us for longer, but we know her journey continues. We wish her all the best for her future adventures and all the amazing Workaway experiences still to come!

First of all: Thank you guys!!! It was really amazing and lovely staying with you💕 Kathy and Ged were my first workaway experience and I can only recommend staying with them. The accommodation is nice, they will try everything to make sure it's a great experience for you and they try to be as obliging as possible. They are both hard working but will always give you a lift if you need it. The animals are great and the work isn't too difficult. For real Ged is so funny, you won't get bored or anything, especially when you stay for longer and start to "unlock" the better parts like extra items on the shopping list 😂🫶🏻 Do the right thing and try them yourself, you won't regret it

We had a wonderful with Arad and Hadas, They joined us during the busy summer season and were an amazing help in cleaning, housekeeping, and the kitchen. Always reliable, responsible, and hard-working — we could count on them every day, even during the most hectic weeks. They brought great energy, worked independently, and fit in perfectly with our team and guests. Thank you both for your positive attitude, dedication, and all your help. We wish you all the best with your future plans — especially with your dream of creating your own place to host guests!

We stayed with Heiko and Joy for about to weeks in the sommer and it was so fun! Heiko and Joy are so welcoming and always make sure that you are comfortable. The cabin was so cute and it had everything we needed (plenty of food, TV, shower etc.). The farm and the nature surrounding it is truly amazing! We had many great swims in the pool and river, it was a perfekt way to cool down:) The work varied from day to day and was never boring! We didn't work more than 4 hours a day, worked in the sade and also took water/snacks breaks. Heiko and Joy where vey helpfull when we wanted to go on hikes. They always drove us and picked us up again. They also had very nice bikes that they borrowed us (and helped us put a spare tire on when we punctured one of the tirres;)) The dogs and cats on the farm are so cute, we miss them already! We had a great time and would highly recommend staying at Heiko and Joys farm!

Sonja was an absolute joy to host! We clicked right from the start, so when our next Workawayer had to cancel last minute and Sonja hadn’t made any fixed travel plans yet, it just felt natural for her to stay on a bit longer — which turned into a full month! We were so grateful to have that extra time together. She joined in with everything we had going on — from homeschooling activities to food forest work, weeding the garden, and helping around the house — always with enthusiasm and a big smile. Our 5-year-old especially adored her and will miss her deeply; Sonja’s creativity and love for crafting and artsy projects made every day special. Even our adult and little friends will miss her dearly — everyone tried to “poach” her, inviting her to stay with them once she left our place! Sonja was also our first vegetarian guest, and it worked out wonderfully. We learned a few new meal ideas and feel much more confident about hosting vegetarians in the future (though we might still need a few tips if we ever host a vegan!). She’s incredibly reliable, thoughtful, and caring. I’m especially grateful for how she stepped in without hesitation when I had to attend an unexpected doctor’s appointment, spending a fun afternoon at the library reading and exploring with our child. We wholeheartedly recommend Sonja to any future hosts — she’s the kind of person who makes a genuine difference wherever she goes. We hope to see her again before she leaves New Zealand (we’re strategically enough located on SH1 that she has to pass through on her way to the South Island, right? 😉). 💛

Where should I start... I only stayed for 2 months, that is not a lot but it was so so wonderful. First: You get everything you need. I had my own room, there are 3 bathrooms I think, you get access to food, there's WiFi and 2½ days off per week. There are lifts in the town 3 times a week and sometimes you get a private lift somewhere as well. Every house has its own cook, so you get professionell cooked food 5 days a week and Mirella was the best cook I will ever meet. I really got spoiled there. I loved the work with the guys. They are so nice and funny and I made a lot of good memorys. Everyone of them is full of life and love and hapiness and we danced A LOT. It showed me that I want to continue to work with people with disabilities. The responsibles and the other volunteers are also wonderful. There was no person that I didn't like or had a problem with. It is true, there are a lot of german girls aged 18-19 that stay for a year. That's because of the german education system. I hope that more different people will go there in the future to bring more cultural exchange and when I was there I heard that it will increase in the next months. I don't really know what to say exept go there now because it was one of the most amazing places I have ever been. The beaches are so aestethic, the people are all fantastic and the workshops and activitys so much fun and very interesting :)

Sergi has been a great help , he was flexible and adapted to a change in plans to go up and pick figs at Albas place in the mountains, but also came and helped here in maro. He is a big lad so it was a great help having him to help with heavier tasks which not all volunteers can manage ... he is very independent and keeps himself entertained, but is also good coversation as has had a life full of adventures and experience. He also has construction experience, knows how to work with materials, understands quickly the task at hand and gets on with it with gusto... thanks for everything Sergi!

I really liked working at the shelter. The work is hard and you work A LOT but you feel like you make a differnce to the dogs (and you do). To be honest what I liked more than working was living in the house with the other volunteers. We spent every afternoon and evening together and had soo much fun. The people here are wonderful, so incredible nice and friendly, they made my day! Katerinas commitment to the dogs is unbelievable, she gives everything for them and really cares. I had troubles working with her though because I personally didn't like her way of communication and I know that I wasn't the only one. I also know that others had no problems at all so it's not about her, it's about you and how important communication is to you. Just be aware that she can be very direct and don't take things personally. Also food is not provided!!! Still, you definitely fall in love with more than one dog and meet the nicest people from all over the world <3

Sono stato ospite da Tiziana e Patrick per venti giorni e mi sono trovato benissimo. Sono due persone molto gentili e disponibili. L'alloggio in tenda con doccia e bagno esterno è stato per me un esperienza bellissima a stretto contatto con la natura. C'è una specie di capanno con una cucina attrezzata con tutto quello che serve e un bel spazio esterno coperto. Amo la natura e ho potuto resettare tutto dallo stress della città ma ovviamente è sconsigliato se si soffre la solitudine la sera 😬

Karolina and Adam came to Auckland on a mission to buy a car for their travels. They achieved this on day 1 and then managed to complete several jobs I had for them. Clearing the house gutters, weeding ,cooking some meals and putting up solar lights in my Pohutakawa tree! They are a great couple who fitted in well and were happy to complete the work I had available. They took off in their newly acquired car onto their next workaway experience. They will be a pleasure to host. Thank you guys 🙏

I stayed at Il Poggiolo for most of October and it was truly an amazing experience! Everyone at the place are super friendly, the views are absolutely stunning (especially the sunset over the mountains) and the food is amazing! The place is a combined restaurant and hostel, so the tasks usually contained cleaning rooms and toilets as well as clearing the restaurant after meals. The work was never too hard and there was plenty of time to just relax and enjoy the place. I would absolutely recommend this place ☺️ Thank you so much for everything!

It was a great experience volunteering in this Hostel. The entire staff is wonderful. The work is very easy. I learned a lot about the culture. Everyone is in my heart. Thank you so much for everything!

It was great to have Odamee with us here at the hostel! She is super friendly,hardworking and organised. Always did her best whenever we asked for a task. You are always welcome back here!

Rachel is really a lovely Host. We almost spent 2 weeks at her house. The rooms were all freshly renovated and really comfortable. The work she gave us was everytime well explained and we had a lot of fun helping her around the garden and her clinic. Rachel is a fun, inspiring and open person with always an interesting story to tell. The food she provided was always delicious (especially the asian curry) and the evenings we spent together were always fun, although we lost almost every single card game. She showed us a lot of cool activities to do around the area and we also played tennis with her friends. Overall we had a great experience and can totally recommend her.

Kinga had been staying at our farm for 2 weeks in September. We are really thankful that she spent her time with us! Kinga is a very open minded, polite, always very helpful and interested woman. With her story of life, she is a very interesting interlocutor you can have good and warm talks with. Her very sweet dog Niri was really easy to have on the farm, even with our dog Mayla... Kinga was motivated and diligent with every task we gave her and even more, always asking if there is any help needed at the farm. She has a beautiful, interesting and warm character and we can recommend her to every host. If Kinga applies just accept :) You're always welcome here, whenever you want :)
