Staying with Allie and Ziggy at their Eco Farm was such a treat. What a beautiful space Allie has created!! Loved the twice daily river swims and exploring the farm. And the sleeping cabin was some of the best accomdation we've had on our entire trip. We enjoyed assiting Allie in her great projects and playing with Ziggy, who is such a joy to be around. An amazing little guy whos energy is infectious. Thank you for an amazing time Allie and Ziggy. JUNGLE FIRE!

I stayed at the beautiful guesthouse and had the best time there. The house and its atmosphere were so adorable, I really enjoyed staying there with my roommate/colleague I met. The workload was absolutely doable and I still had so much free time during the day. Nicky‘s instructions on the work were very clear and structured, he provided some great recommendations for the area and was always available if there were some issues with guests or the house. My roomie and me basically had the house to ourselves and managed everything around it, which was a great experience too! BIG RECOMMENDATION <3

Polina is been a valid and committed help for all her staying. In every task she has been assigned to she is being always focused and motivated to the end. This beside the personal work she's carring on, in fact she is an amazing interior design with tons of creativity (check on istagram her portfolio!) which unfortunatelly we couldn't let her express that much here because right now we're too focused onto gardening and manual labour. Hope she will come back to visit us when we need to decorate the restaurant! Good luck with your adventures Polina!

Tupananchiskama

We had the pleasure to have Ayumi visiting us for 3 busy weeks in July. One could only admire Ayumi’s “sisu” at the hay work: almost the size of the biggest hay bales herself, with no background in physical work, she perseveringly carried on in the hard work and had to be forced to take breaks. Her input was valuable not only in the hay work, but also in painting parts of sauna and root cellar, in the yearly cleaning of the chicken coop and of course in caring for the animals, just to mention some tasks. It was such a relief for us that she enjoyed watering the garden every evening - and the garden enjoyed her doing it. Ayumi was very interested in the Finnish culture and handicrafts; with a background of textile designer, she was experimenting for example with nettle fibers and sheep wool. It was so nice to see her experiencing many new things for the first time and getting braver and braver at every step – like going into the chilly lake water, each time a bit further! Ayumi was very sweet, kind and polite, always careful in everything she did, spoke well English, got well along with everyone and enjoyed working as well in a team as independently. It was a pleasure to get to know her, hoping to see her again!

Liam was our September 2025 Workaway. He was very easy to get along with, very keen and full of chat. He was a great help around the house, from fruit picking, harvesting veg and preparing the vegetable garden for the winter. Liam also helped with the animals, feeding and watering the dogs and cats, taking care of the poultry, cleaning out their coop, feeding them and collecting eggs. Liam had a great opportunity during his stay to meet people from all over the world. With his love for history, he enjoyed showing our guests around our Old Mill House and explaining the history of the house to them. We would highly recommend Liam as a Workaway to other hosts. Many thanks for all your help Liam, it was great meeting you and we wish you the very best for the future.

I felt myself as a member of the family during my stay. I was so happy to be able to revive some old treasures and contribute. I also made some incredible friends. A wedding party was held on the weekend. It was an amazing experience of Lithuanian life. A huge thanks to Kamilė and Saulius.

I stayed here for three weeks this past August and was very well taken care of. As a vegan, I really appreciated that this was taken into consideration and that I was provided with delicious home-cooked meals. The work itself could get a little monotonous at times, as our tasks mostly revolved around harvesting, tending to the trees, and starting the drying process, but it was still satisfying to see the progress and understand how much work goes into producing edible chocolate. Working on the hillsides was often intense and strenuous, but with some ice-cold lemonade and collective team effort, it became easier to maintain the motivation. I also really enjoyed exploring the surrounding landscape in our free moments, as well as hanging out, chatting, reading, and playing cards. The nightsky and soundscape were also very impressive. Also I saw so many plants, animals and insects I had never seen before. One small point of constructive feedback is that I would have wished for clearer communication about the potentially uncomfortable wildlife prior to my arrival. However, German was always open and happy to chat about anything, which made it easy to address and understand. Overall, it was a memorable experience with good people (whom I now call friends) in a beautiful environment.

I stayed at this beautiful house near Monaco for 10 days. Brigitte was a wonderful host and helped me feel right at home. Got to hang out with the family and other workawayers while living life the French way. Ate far too much food and watched the sunrise over the ocean every morning with plenty of time to explore the South of France. If I'm ever back in the Cote D'Azure I will be coming back to Brigitte's house definitely. Merci Beaucoup!

It was a pleasure staying and working with Lionel for 2 weeks. We split communicating between French and English and I certainly improved my French in my time at Sanary, having daily conversations and lessons in both languages. The room contained everything I needed and more, with a television and a radio with worldwide channels which I used to practice listening to French. In terms of work it was very fair, varying from 3-5 hrs a day - this involved gardening, various household jobs and , notably picking and flavouring olives which I really enjoyed. Lionel allowed plenty of free time to explore and swim in the afternoons and was flexible on timings as he (of course) had his own work to do and adapted to when had something on. We also visited Toulon together on a weekend, which I chose out of the many areas to visit on the south coast, which Lionel offered to take me to, including Marseille, Hyeres and Nice. Lionel himself is very knowledgeable on many topics, including politics, history and French culture. The food was great and I ate very well, plenty of fish or another main component alongside pasta or rice and of course plenty of local vegetables with every meal. At breakfast, bread, butter, jam and tea normally. I also tried new foods like cod liver (which I wasn't the biggest fan of... :) and drank plenty of Lionel's favourite wine spritz. Lionel also loves his television, introducing me to French films and he even seemed to know more about British television than I did myself! It is important to note that the Sanary area is very quiet. It is great for swimming, relax and soaking up the French coastal culture, but it is not lively socially, which I understood before going, and you should to. Overall, it was an incredibly interesting stay and I would certainly recommend visiting Lionel. I also appreciated working to earn my stay and it felt like a smooth and fair cultural and working exchange (I hope Lionel did too!) Good luck and safe travels, Sam

I stayed with Rodrigo in July for 10 days and had the most amazing experience. I felt welcomed immediately by Rodrigo, who even when my bus was late, arriving at 2am, collected me from the bus station. Rodrigo is passionate about his work, and being in the lessons, chatting, getting to know students, was an enriching experience. Rodrigo treated me as part of the family and I really appreciated not feeling like an imposter in the house. I really enjoyed spending time with the whole family -Natalia and Kris, who are kind and friendly people, we shared awesome local lunches and coffees. Varginha is not the most interesting place in the world - but Rodrigo was transparent about this upfront - which again, I really appreciated. I gained a lot from this experience - just hearing Rodrigos stories was awesome - he is truly a great, open minded person. I wish you all the best and I would love to welcome you, Natalia and Kris in the UK or Praia de Macapa one day. Valeu amigo

What a wonderful experience for my first workaway. Definitely a learning experience in so many ways. Rich and Therese were beyond gracious and welcoming into their small piece of paradise. I will miss the animals and all the wonderful people I met during my stay.

I had such a great time at the Surf House! I originally agreed to stay for three weeks but loved it so much that I ended up staying for seven. Ninon is an amazing manager — super organised, friendly, and really on top of everything needed to keep the hostel running smoothly, especially since it’s a new project. The shifts were relaxed and we had a lot of freedom to create the vibe and make guests feel at home, which made it really enjoyable. It’s a beautiful spot to surf, meet travellers, and be part of something that’s growing. I’d definitely recommend volunteering here if you’re looking for a calm, friendly, and fun place to spend some time.

Hi everyone. I stayed with Nasiba for nearly three weeks, left to go and visit Samarkand, and instantly missed Nasiba, her family, all of the students and the way of life in Beshariq. Nasiba does indeed have a hugely generous heart and soul, immense energy, good English and a great sense of humour. I felt welcomed from the minute I arrived and there were tears and hugs when I left. My main role was English conversation classes and being a friend for the students who gave me a good insight in to Uzbek daily life. We laughed and talked then laughed some more. And it was such a pleasure to be part of Nasiba’s family. It is a short, easy walk into town where you can find most things that you might need though food was provided daily. Also a cheap shared taxi can take you to Kokand and the Tajik border in your time off. For me, my stay with Nasiba was both an honour and a joy. It would be wonderful to return.

It was a great experience to work with Süleyman, Aylin, Sinan and Alp, and the local Turkish staff, despite my short stay here. The work was varied and had good work-rest balance. Stuff we did included food preservation, making water plant retaining boxes for the pond, collecting trash from the forest, picking fruits/vegetables, some light repair/construction work and daily farm tasks (feeding animals, help with cooking, etc.). For outdoor lovers and people who enjoy working with their hands, this is definitely the place to be! Also, if you’re an animal lover, this place will be perfect for you! There’s sheep, geese, chickens, dogs and cats, and throughout your stay there’s plenty of opportunity to spend time with them. The local Turkish staff are super kind, and despite the language barrier, it was always a joy to work together with them. I had a tipi all to myself with provided air mattress, pillow and enough sleeping bags to stay warm during the night. There’s outdoor toilets and showers, though you’ll only have warm water when there’s enough sunshine. If there’s enough solar power then you can also use the washing machine for laundry, otherwise hand washing is an option. By far the best thing about the accommodation is the food: fresh, local ingredients with lots of vegetables combined into the most amazing dishes. But be warned: you might not want to leave this place after having tasted the food, it really is that good ;) Thank you for the short but amazing stay! It was a memorable experience and I enjoyed the many talks we had about eco-living, orienteering, spirituality, and life in general. This place was not only one of doing, but also one of learning.
