Dani is an exceptional person. He is kind, considerate, intelligent and a lovely warmth about his personality. He helped us for three weeks, and was a great person to share our space with. He did a lot of work in the garden, clearing, digging, building new garden beds, pruning, tidying, and so much more. He is thorough with his work, ensuring everything is done well. He's very reliable, intuitive and really was a huge help. We are so glad that he came to stay with us. I can highly recommend Dani as a workawayer and as a friend. Oh, and he was great with the animals, was extremely tidy and can cook some lovely Spanish dishes!

Annie was such a wonderful help; creative, thoughtful, and always willing to lend a hand. She made some absolutely beautiful backdrops and did amazing sewing work for us, as well as taking lovely photos that really captured the spirit of our projects. She was a pleasure to have around — polite, reliable, and full of positive energy. We’d be thrilled to have her back anytime!

Had seven unforgettable weeks with Frank, his family and friends and the team in Lilongwe. The NGO is locally based in Lilongwe but the projects range all over the country. I was able to join the team on three on site visits in the northern part of Malawi, including the stunningly beautiful Livingstonia. The team help local communities develop their skills in area such as governance, marketing, finance and other business skills. These skills are then passed on through the community which helps grow knowledge. The other part of the NGO is helping communities with funding for assets like school buildings, medical clinics, housing for teachers as well as other projects such as sourcing mattresses so girls can have something to sleep on at secondary school. In the office I helped develop their financial systems (I am an accountant). The team was great to work with and willingly shared their knowledge both of the NGO and their country. I lived with Frank and Susan in a lovely large house in Area 38 which is on the outskirts of Lilongwe on the road to Blantyre. They had one daughter at home along with two nieces. Their other two children were at high school (college) and University and I met them too. I had an ensuite bedroom which was comfortable and airy. I was treated as a valued and loved member of the wider family from day one. Food was different to what I would eat in New Zealand but nevertheless both tasty and nutritious. I also learnt some useful recipes that I am using now I am home. I met many other family members from all over Malawi as well as local friends of the family. They all made me so welcome. At weekends we went traveling to see more of the region, the highlight was going to the Chongoni Rock Art area south of Lilongwe. Malawi is a great place to visit but be prepared to accept that it is much poorer than many other tourist spots in Africa. The roads in general are pretty bad and I decided I wasn't up to driving here which limited some of my opportunities to get around. But there are buses that travel between the main areas and taxis. I would recommend Nkhata Bay in the north on the lake shore (I stayed at Butterfly Space - great food and coffee). There I went kayaking and swimming as well as just relaxing by the lake. I can truly recommend this project. I will forever remember my time in Malawi. Thank you Frank, Susan and all the other people who made my time so special.

Tereza was an absolute pleasure to have with us! She brought such creativity and positivity to everything she did. She painted the most beautiful scenery for our projects — full of colour, detail, and imagination — and worked with great care and enthusiasm. Always polite, friendly, and hardworking, she was a joy to have around, and we’d love to welcome her back anytime!

Alessio was such a lovely house guest — polite, easy to have around, and always considerate. He’s incredibly creative and made some absolutely wonderful scenery and props for us, adding a real artistic touch to our projects. He approached everything with enthusiasm and care, and we were so grateful for his help. We’d be delighted to have him back anytime!

Ines was absolutely wonderful to have with us! She went above and beyond in every way — always kind, reliable, and full of positive energy. She was incredibly helpful with all tasks and even stayed later than expected to make sure everything was finished to a high standard. We really appreciated her initiative, teamwork, and cheerful attitude. She was a true asset to the team, and we’d happily welcome her back anytime.

We lived together with Trent and the kids for four months. We had our own clean room with a bathroom. We were allowed to use the car whenever we needed it and could enjoy a lot of freedom. The area and location are absolutely beautiful… perfect for hiking and cycling. We usually had our meals together, depending on the daily schedule. During our stay, there were three sweet cows on the property. All the work was manageable and enjoyable. Many thanks for the four months! Staying with Earl was an amazing experience that gradually turned into a real friendship! He was incredibly kind to us and did everything he could to make us feel at home. His family is wonderful and always up for some fun. Earl worked alongside us on all kinds of projects — from cutting wood to doing dock maintenance — so we got to learn lots of new skills. He also took us hiking, to the gym, and even to play pickleball. It was never boring with him around! Can only recommend staying with Earl you wont regret it !

The best hostal ever!!! My first time volunteering in a hostal and I am grateful forever. Amazing people, amazing food, amazing location! Very supportive and patient during training, and you get so many opportunities to explore! Shifts vary from reception to taking guests on tours of Monte Alban or Central de Abastos and running activities like mole tastings and cooking classes. Truly the best and I recommend anyone come and stay. Muchas gracias por todo, volvere!

Nahuel stayed at home almost a week. He is a very nice person, always in a good mood, willing to help, we are very happy with his performance! He also helped with Simba and his medication, accurately and with love. I hope we can meet again!!

very comfortable accommodation, very close to many amenities and points of interests. about the host: she's a very down on earth woman, much avalaible on any request needed and also a good chef. hope one day will meet her again, maybe back home in Italy, why not.

Adorable kids alert!! 🥰 I had an amazing month and a half in the Yukon! Thanks to this lovely family I discover the region — canoeing 🚣‍♀️on Whitehorse River, two days of camping at Kathleen Lake,⛺️ paddleboarding on Lake Laberge, and exploring Carcross. The studio is nice and give you privacy and the tasks are really easy. The girls are absolutely adorable, and Alison and Adams are incredibly welcoming, helpful, and warm-hearted. Thank you so much for this unforgettable stay! 💛

Dear Fifi and mother, We are sooo happy to share some moments with you at your beautiful land in Ipoh. Every day we tried different juices which we have never tried before it was very fun. Your garden project is amazing and we can’t wait to see photos in the future, we are happy to be part of your project and help you. J'ai passé un merveilleux moments en compagnie de kari et melvin. Dès le premier jour ils mont fait sentir comme chez moi. Il m'ont accueilli les bras grand ouvert dans leur famille lors des célébrations de Thanksgiving et tout le temps de ma présence. J'ai été heureuse de les aider avec la peinture intérieure lors de mon passage et j'espère y retourner bientôt afin de les aider dans leur diverses projet.

Tiffanny is a wonderful woman with such a beautiful soul. She always has a very positive energy and attitude, she is also always attentive to feedback and to cooperate with the team in a very proactive way. Xena was here for more than a week, interrupted by two days in Tavira. So we worked together in two blocks of several days. It was very pleasant and productive. We were able to finish some garden projects and start others. As a teacher and athlete, Xena brought good energy and responsibility with her. Our conversations were very informative for me, as they gave me a little insight into the world of Generation Z. Overall, it was a very pleasant and fruitful experience. I wish Xena interesting encounters and insights on her further journey.

I spent three weeks volunteering at this place under the wonderful guidance of Ceci and Sabrina. From day one, I was welcomed into an environment that truly feels magical — a place full of compassion, dedication, and purpose. During my time there, I helped with the daily care of the dogs and puppies, including feeding, cleaning, and grooming. I also assisted in rescuing dogs found on the roadside and helping them adjust to their new, safe surroundings. One of the most rewarding experiences was helping prepare dogs for their journeys to new homes in Canada, ensuring they were ready and cared for before their flights. I was fortunate to assist during a local conference, where I helped introduce puppies to visitors and support fundraising efforts for the shelter. Additionally, I spent time assisting in the surgery room and in the post-recovery area — an incredible opportunity to learn and contribute to the dogs’ healing process. Ceci and Sabrina, are some of the most dedicated and welcoming people I’ve met. The accommodation provided is comfortable and sufficient, complete with a kitchen and all you need during your stay. This is a truly special place — beautifully located and filled with heart. If I’d had more time, I would have gladly stayed longer. For anyone considering volunteering with animals, this is the perfect place to do it. You’ll learn, contribute, and leave knowing you’ve made a real difference.
