My Experiences as a Volunteer. To be honest, I had no idea what I was getting into. I had never been to Africa before and had no clue what to expect. But from the very first moment, I landed in a warm bath of welcome. I was received very hospitably by my host family, and from the start, I was treated as a member of the family. Then, in the community of Livingstonia? There too, I was warmly welcomed and embraced as part of the community. During the seven weeks I worked here, I was able to build many wonderful connections. When I went for a walk, I often ran into familiar faces and stopped for a friendly chat. Even though not everyone spoke English very well, the level was often good enough for interesting conversations. As a photographer, I often rode on the back of a motorbike to document various events, such as: visiting elderly people who often live alone in hard-to-reach locations attending gatherings in nearby settlements to raise awareness about the help the place can offer distributing notebooks and pens at schools delivering mattresses to a school so that female students no longer have to sleep on the hard floor attending a community meeting where they want to build a school for their children but need advice on fundraising I shared selections of my photos from all these events on Facebook and Instagram. In addition, with my background in ICT, I was able to contribute in useful ways at the office — helping to set up a reporting page in Google Docs, giving advice on a new website, and teaching computer skills. It was also great to see how open the host, Kondwani, is to new ideas. We had many long conversations about the organization, looking for ways to strengthen it. I look back on a very special period. I learned and experienced a lot, and I truly feel that I was able to contribute something meaningful to the organization. I hope to return next year. Bo

Even though we never stayed at Lazars' as official Workawayers, he kindly offered we could visit him if we were ever in the area (we were traveling with our camper), so we did! We stayed with him for two nights, went for a lovely walk on the mountain together, tested our worldly knowledge as a fun referencing game and shared some good food with him and another Workawayer that was staying with him at the time. He is kind and fun and has a great property with lots of trees, plants and birds. We would definitely recommend a stay with him and his cuddly cat! And make sure to ask him about trees! He knows a lot ;-) Thanks Lazar!

Hey-hey! The one month in this special spot next to river Meuse was an important and beauty- full chapter in my book of life. There it is possible to take it slower, dive in to the setting and vibration of the surroundings and through this into yourself. For me it was perfect because I was looking for a peaceful spot where to take it slower, draw new perspectives regarding the future and connect to nature. Bert is an inspiring charismatic soul. He has lived a colourful life and has wisdom to share if you ask for it. Also...all this time I felt like eating in a restaurant - He is a talented cook and can do some magic with food.Absolutely delicious! ...and...also...the kind people coming-going (you know who you are :) ) to pass Bert s home - Experiencing the kindness and welcoming attitude from day one on made me feel welcomed and connected, no matter that you are in new place, new country, culture, language etc. But yeah, generally speaking - I fell in love with Limburg area, it is unique, especially when nature is your setting. This place has a special energy. Go, go and stay longer so that you will have time to dive into it. It was my first workaway solo after I had it done once with my friwnd maybe 10 + years ago and I can just say: Thanks, Bert, as written in the guest book- It is a heart ace experience ;) Take care!

I stayed with Dustin and Yulia for about three months, and it was truly one of the best Workaway experiences I’ve had. They’re both incredibly kind, open-minded, and made me feel completely at home from day one. Their house is full of warmth, surrounded by nature, good energy, and a lovely family of animals — Jack, Gaspar, Chino, Erisca, Moitchka, and the two wonderful cats, Proper Cat and “The Wrong One” (who was definitely my favorite!). During my stay, we went on several fantastic hikes in Dilijan National Park, and those moments were unforgettable. We really did a lot of amazing projects together! I helped with gardening, painting, some repairs, putty, Carpentry, daily chores and everything was easygoing and well-communicated. They trusted me with different tasks and always appreciated my help, gave me freedom and trust, and always made sure I was comfortable and I tried my best to do the projects. We also shared great language exchanges and deep talks about Life, Culture, Music and Politics. It felt more like staying with good friends than hosts and I learned from them. If you love nature, animals, peaceful places, and genuine people, this is the perfect Workaway. Thank you, Dustin and Yulia — and hugs to all the furry ones, especially “The Wrong One”! Love You All 💚👊🏻

It was such a pleasure to have Lara volunteering in Bodhgaya/ India. We are so grateful that she volunteered at our primary schools and tought the students and our staff how to make bracelets. The children had so much fun and for them it was so refreshing to learn something creative outside of their school routines. Lara was always kind and patient with the children and they all miss her. We hope you will return one day, Lara!! Thank your for everything! Michael

Abbie and Noah is a great couple! Normally it’s a bit risky for hosts to have couples, but they did really well and contributed to our welcoming environment. They helped with reception, cleaning around, and chatting with the guests. We are happy to have them again and we definitely recommend them to other hosts.

I was lucky enough to spend two weeks with the family, and where do I even begin – I had an unforgettable and relaxing time, which, unfortunately, went by far too quickly. From the moment Anna and Astrid picked me up at the bus stop, the family gave me the warmest welcome. The accommodation is perfectly equipped with everything you could wish for, and on top of that, you always have the option to use the pool right outside the door. I had a lot of fun working on the property – from feeding the animals and gardening to small handyman tasks, there was a bit of everything, which made it wonderfully varied but never too much. Although you mostly take care of your own meals, I was often invited to eat with the family, and they always made sure I felt completely comfortable! The location is a bit outside of Chiclana, but the family always offered plenty of ways to give me a lift to the nearest bus stop or supermarket. Anna and Astrid also took me along on lots of great outings – whether it was swimming at the beach, visiting a nearby beach bar, walking the dogs through the dunes, or taking a trip to the beautiful little town of Vejer – there was always something to enjoy. Thank you so much for the wonderful time together, and I’m already looking forward to visiting you again soon!

Tom and I spent three weeks on Baba and Iason's farm, and enjoyed it very much! Samothraki is a beautiful island, full of mystery and stories, and we loved learning about it all. We helped with clay making, opening up the vegetable beds with Baba for the winter planting, collecting manure with Iason, and picking beans and sesame. Baba and Iason made us feel really welcome - our tent was cosy and we had fun in our kitchen making wooden chairs. Baba's cooking is incredible, and conversations at meal times were always interesting. (and the wine is so so good) Stormy evening meals in the diving centre were always lovely, and we enjoyed meeting everyone who was there. Thank you for a very special time!!

Me and Tam stayed on Baba and Iason's land for 3 weeks, and we really enjoyed our time. We helped out with various things like mixing clay for the new roof of the stonehouse, collecting manure with Iason or opening up new beds with Baba and planting things like spelt, garlic or onions in them. There were always Veggies and Fruit to be harvested or some of the 'forever' jobs on the farm like collecting stones or making sure the monks pepper bushes dont take over. All in all we had a really lovely time - Baba and Iason make you feel like part of their project and prepare lovely food every evening, which we shared over many insightful and fun conversations.

Greetings! Bernd hosted me for three months. I can say that after meeting him, we became great friends. He's a person who shares and teaches everything he has and knows. He's always available for conversations, walks, and to introduce his friends. He's truly an excellent guide to Sicilian culture. You can also participate in his art and restoration projects and help out in his garden, learning valuable lessons from a great master! Greetings from Argentina. I hope to spend some time with you in Ispica.

Valeska and Uwe stayed with us for three weeks this autumn. And we couldn't have wished for better helpers! Uwe is a real handyman and did a lot of small and medium sized repairs in the house and outside, and he really seemed to enjoy it! Valeska was painting a lot and helping him when necessary. They are the most reliable and hard-working people, independent but always asking for my opinion, taking on any job that I could think of, very well organized and with a positive attitude. We also really enjoyed having them with us, as they are the most lovely people to have around. It would be my pleasure to have them back another time. :-)

Lucas and I spent two awesome weeks here in October. We were warmly welcomed by the team or should I say the family and immediately felt like home. The house is located in the mountain with a stunning view and we enjoyed awesome sunsets every single day. The garden is wonderful and very well taken care of with passion and experience. Dinesh, Mangale, Bishal and Kedar were always very happy to explain everything about Organic farming. They are so joyful and we laughed so much especially when triying to speak Nepali or French. Sometimes they put on Hindi and Nepali music which was very fun ! We did grass cutting and picking, compost turning, grass collecting to make new compost, leaves collecting, mandarines and hibiscus picking, coffee beans sorting before their roasting. They really tried to vary the works which is not easy during early post monsoon season where there is a lot of grass cutting to do. Sometimes the work was harder but they always told us to take rest if needed and anyway we had water breaks at least every hour. It was rewarding to work altogether in this beautiful garden and shared much more than just work. We refilled our batteries with tasty and generous meals prepared with heart by Deepa and Ama (and sometimes Bishal or Dinesh). Deepa was very thoughtful and helped us with anything we needed. The schedule was clear and we had plenty of time to rest and even take a nap after lunch which was very appreciated ! Besides working hours we spent a lot of time chatting altogether at home or also in Nawalpur, but we were also free to rest on our own if needed. During our 2 days off per week, there are many things to do around here especially going on a hike with Mangale or Bishal. We had the chance to share the beginning of Tihar with them and will never forget it. It was hard to say goodbye and we can't wait to come back and meet again this very inspiring dream Team of beautiful souls.

I spent an amazing 10 days with Vesna and Willie (of course all the dogs too!), and am so incredibly grateful for how they welcomed me into their home. I requested to stay fairly last minute because of some visa issues, and Vesna was very quick to reply and invite me to stay. Mostly I helped with chopping firewood and weeding the raspberry garden before the winter, and I was lucky enough to have the help of two other amazing workawayers who have stayed with Vesna before for the first few days. Expect delicious home cooked food, interesting conversations, and the most friendly dogs you'll ever meet. During my stay we were also able to go into Kosjeríć a few times and Willie took me up a nearby mountain to see an incredible view of the valley. I was immediately welcomed into the family, and am so glad for my stay. I hope to return very soon, thank you guys for everything!

This is a truly magical place with quiet nature, the rhythm of a small farm and its animals, all with the surroundings of Gantrish, with an incredible calm and idyllic beauty for your walks. I was able to discover an extremely beautiful part of Germanic Switzerland. It was a pleasure to help you with your little Christian and Ama farm. With really good meals prepared by Ama and sharing a great exchange during our meals. I had the opportunity to have a whole free day to share a great walk with children and two donkeys to discover the surroundings. You can't get bored here, there are many activities to learn and discover. I helped with his excavator and hydraulic hoses, DIY toilet, repairing the doors of the house, helping to Shearing the sheeps. And so many greats things. Thanks again to you Ama and Christian and hope to see you in the Mediterranean Sea in my house. Ramon

Thanks to Nimea, Paolo, Piccolo Oceano, and all the pets for the wonderful experience. I spent a month and a half in this beautiful pine forest, located near the most beautiful beaches on the Vicenza coast and immersed in a wider context of woods and pristine nature. I learned the basic principles of agroforestry, picked olives, and helped build a yurt. I met many other workawayers and ate several delicious dishes cooked by them. I will definitely return because it is an ambitious and spectacular project. Thanks again, see you soon.

Had a great time picking olives with Ante and the group. We mainly used shakers to collect olives, then went to the mill where we cleaned it from leaves and branches and sent it to the press. Some olives were squeezed right away and others were soaked in the sea water using traditional island method: this way oil comes out with lighter, less tangy, more neutral taste. It was interesting to see and taste the difference between this oil and the extra virgin one. Also, we enjoyed eggs from Antes chickens! In general, Uglian Island is quite nice, easy to get to from Zadar and I was able to swim a few times even though it was October... Wishing Ante good luck and even a bigger harvest next year!
