Corey spent almost the entire summer working with us in our humble castle kitchen. Since someone dropped out at short notice, we were very happy that Corey fit so well into our team. It's not always easy to get used to all the routines in the middle of the season, but Corey was very ambitious and always did his best to fulfill all our wishes, and it was important to him to conjure up delicious meals for our guests. His passion was especially dedicated to creating creative desserts, with which he constantly spoiled us. I appreciate his easygoing and uncomplicated nature and that he takes things as they are without complaining. Whether it was days with more work, complicated guests, or when the kitchen had to be flexible at short notice. Even when we struggle with the internet, he didn't get upset, which made his presence very pleasant. We wish Corey all the best on his future travels!

Our stay with Lorna was really lovely. She’s a very flexible and easygoing person who made us feel welcome from the start. During our time in Auckland, we were on a big mission — to buy a car for our travels — and Lorna was so supportive and understanding throughout the whole process. We enjoyed exploring the beautiful Onehunga, chatting with Lorna, playing with Pippi and even though our time was short, we had the chance to meet her amazing family and get a glimpse into their lives. There were no set work hours — we simply agreed on tasks the day before, which made everything very relaxed and adaptable. Some tasks we did alongside Lorna, and others we handled independently. Lorna was always happy to offer advice whenever we needed it, and the highlight of our stay was definitely being invited to celebrate her grandson’s first birthday at the beautiful Ambury Farm Park. Thank you so much, Lorna!

I stayed there for about two weeks and a few days. The people there were very kind and unique, and interacting with them was really fun. Working hours were from 7 to 11 and from 1 to 5. Usually, there were no specific instructions, so I tried to find work by myself. Because of the language barrier, sometimes it was difficult to understand what to do. I mainly washed the dishes and collected fallen leaves. Lunch and dinner were provided — the meals were simple but very delicious! You need to prepare your own breakfast. When I first arrived, I was guided to an old house to stay in, but it was quite dirty and the electricity and water were limited. So I moved to a tent, and I stayed there during my time. The village often had guests, especially on weekends or holidays, but on some days there were none. Overall, staying there was a really nice experience for me, and I made irreplaceable friends. Thank you so much for accepting me and spending time together!

Pelle, Thank you for your lovely review. We both really enjoyed having you. To any future potential host, Pelle is exceptionally willing and helpful. The accommodation unit hadn't been used for much of the winter when Pelle arrived, and he gave it all a thorough spring clean as his first task. He also left it lovely and clean on departure. The weather wasn't the kindest, but whenever he could, he cleared fired hazards, brush cut the long grass and tackled lots of little jobs during his two week stay (which seem to go very quickly). Nothing was too much. Pelle shimmied up ladders to block birds nest' entry, tackled lots of maintenance jobs in the sheds, and on the inclement weather days, scrubbed and cleaned and lifted and sorted so we are ready for spring. He is strong, fit and very willing. And enjoyable company sharing meals and washing up each night. Pelle's talent is seeing what needs to be done and quietly going about it uninstructed. He was just lovely to have round. Enjoy your travels Pelle and thank you for everything. Cheers Anne

I had a wonderful experience at this place. I loved working with Kishor, Jessica and the other volunteers, and not to mention all the lovely dogs! The work was physically demanding, but it was also very rewarding. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes working with dogs!

Franka is a very nice young lady. Her English is very good, so no problem to communicate even if her Spanish was limited. She helped me put some order in some messy areas of my house. She was good at working independently. Don't hesitate to host her if you have the chance. I wish her the best in her travelling adventures!

I spent two weeks at the shelter and had an amazing time. Richie (who hosted me in his part of the shelter) puts a lot of time and effort into his job and because of that the animals are very happy and really well behaved. I made a few trips to the main shelter outside of the city center as well, and had a good time walking the dogs there too. I can definitely recommend joining the shelter if you have the chance, the animals are the sweetest and deserve all the love and pets they can get. :)

Emma was definitely a 5 star workaway. She’s very nice, pleasant to be around and up for anything. She’s very good with the animals and the animals loved her. I injured my left knee in May and then tore my right knee in August. Things had definitely gotten a bit out of hand here when she arrived. She stepped up immediately and went right to work. She’s happiest being busy. I made a list of all the things that ‘would need nice to get done before fall’ and I feel like she as always working on something. If I didn’t have a plan for the day (which is honestly most days), her and the other helper would make a plan and get stuff done… like fixing rabbit cages, cleaning duck houses, cleaning out drop pans in the ATCO, shoveling the barn, pressure washing, moving panels , whatever needed to be done. She’s the kind of person who can SEE that something needs to be done and she will go and do it herself. Which is probably one of the best qualities in a helper. I really appreciate people who can problem solve. Her hard work and dedication to the health and welfare of the animals did not go unnoticed. Emma is exactly the type of helper you’re looking for. We’re going to miss her very much. Emma is definitely welcome back any time

Sienna was an absolute pleasure to host for her three-week stay. She brought a wonderful, positive energy to our home and project every single day. She is intelligent, curious, and has a genuine passion for creativity that was a perfect match for our space. Sienna is a fantastic and reliable team member. We were so impressed with her hands-on work, whether it was painting ceilings or taking the initiative to instruct and guide newer Workawayers—a huge help that showed her natural leadership skills. She is self-directed and always completes her tasks with a smile. She also has a great creative eye. She made a wonderful video documenting the renovation work she and the others did, which we all loved. On top of all that, she's an amazing cook! She prepared meals for the whole house, and everyone loved her cooking. She fit into our communal life effortlessly and was a bright, social, and inspiring person to have around. Sienna is already organizing a film screening program at her university, and we truly hope she continues to get more involved in the world of film—she clearly has a talent for it. We would welcome Sienna back in a heartbeat and highly recommend her to any host!

Thank you so much for the kindness and support! We stayed almost 2 weeks with Anna, Will, James, Alice and Robbie! Anna picked us up and dropped off us at the bus station even though she was very busy at work. We felt very welcomed from the first day! We mainly cooked the dinner for the family, hang and fold the laundry, weeding and cleaning the kitchen and living room sometimes in the morning and after dinner. The jobs are not too hard, and the working time is flexible. (We will suggest that you can discuss with Anna from the first day!) And sometimes we took care of the kids when Anna and Will were very busy at work, we enjoyed a lot playing trampoline, soccer and reading the books with them. James is a very good reader, Alice is very energetic and little Robbie just super cute and always has a smiling face! We appreciate a lot for the food, car and the big studio you provided for us! Anna borrowed her car for us to explore Oamaru, we highly recommend going to the lookout point!! If you love playing with kids or enjoy the farm life, we will recommend you to come and stay with them! Thanks again for everything!

First of all, a big thank you to Prakash and Srijana for welcoming us so warmly into their little paradise. From the moment we arrived, we felt like part of the family, at home :) The site is exceptionally rich in fruit, edible plants, and medicinal plants, and the best part is that Prakash knows everything there is to know about all these plants and is happy to share his knowledge with you! Prakash is an excellent storyteller and traveler, and he always has an anecdote to share ;) Prakash is what you would call a "bon vivant" (someone who enjoys the good life). He loves to laugh, nature, healthy things, and good food! We cooked together, and Prakash is very imaginative when it comes to cooking, he will probablu learn to you many things. Since I cooked with him, I personally changed my way to cooking, and now it's taster! (my opinion) Every day we had complete, healthy, varied, and above all, yummy meals! We will definitely miss Srijana's banana bread, not to mention Prakash's fresh homemade bread (sometimes made with buckwheat from his own field!). I hope you will have the chance to taste the famous homemade “chang” (fermented rice), and maybe you will be better than us at taking on the challenge of eating extra-hot chili peppers once a day to become a true Nepalese (according to Prakash). Most of the produce comes from the garden and local producers (from ginger to garlic to chayotes). We contributed in various ways, painting, gardening, helping in the kitchen, and welcoming guests. Don't expect to be bossed around. Prakash is very easygoing. The most important thing for him is that you do what you love to do and do it with love. He's not the type to stand over you and tell you what to do and how to do it. Prakash took us to the sunrise viewpoint in Tansen. We walked there from the farm early in the morning, and the view was magical! We went back a second time with Srijana, Leo, and Coco. It was a pleasant moment, sipping good tea with a view of the Himalayas in the early morning. Their two golden retrievers, Leo and Coco, accompanied us. You'll quickly grow attached to them ;) Prakash and Srijana are very kind and caring people. They always made sure we had everything we needed and were as comfortable as possible. We became very attached to them, and now that we know the address, there's a good chance we'll be back! :)

We really enjoyed our time at the villa with Ben. We stayed for the last six weeks of the season, so we experienced both hot days and cold, rainy days. We were here with two other volunteers, Henry and Marissa, who were also fantastic to hang out with. The balance between the jobs, tours, and free time was perfect. During our free time, there was always a car available to visit nearby places or go grocery shopping. We enjoyed eating meals together, drinking beer, and playing lots of board games. Ben is still undefeated in Monopoly! Thanks again for this amazing experience. We wish you and your family all the best.

Our beloved FRIDA, Its only 3 days now since we saw us the last time after your stay here and we already miss you! We picked Frida up in Ptuj (the closest city), and from the first second it felt for us like we knew us before. She had her own "room" next to ours, without a stove but temperatures where still ok, and she built an amazing wardrobe to hang her clothes, as there was nothing like that there ;-). It was also no problem to her that in autumn/winter our outdoor shower was mostly cold, she never complained about that, I think after the first times she even started to enjoy that :-) This also changed my mind about hosting people in autumn here, as all our facilities are outside, I saw its possible! Frida was always from morning to late evening super motivated for all jobs (in this 3,5 weeks we spent together a lot of projects were done like planting 12 kg of garlic), always helpful if she had nothing to do she always asked how she can help, always in a good mood, and super lovely to our cats. She has always taken the initiative to carry out work independently, even in the household. And in all the time she never had one day off, every day we spent most of the time together if it was working here, or cooking, baking cakes, knitting, making jewelry, watching a movie, enjoying the sun, and a lot of more. FRIDA - we wish you all the best, on your traveling trip now and also in your future. You are such a natural, beautiful, heartwarming, funny and inspiring person, we are so grateful for this workaway-platform because it gives us the opportunity to meet such beautiful souls like you! Thank you again for all the help here, we will never forget the time we spent together, all the conversations and funny moments, every second. We love you - and you are always welcome here as long as you want, we have to see us again!!! alt godt og på gjensyn - Katharina, Thomas, Bjalfi, Mimir, Sonce und of course Flynn

Thanks to Nouri, the host who welcomed us so well. He introduced us to the city with great kindness and generosity and gave us a very valuable sense of trust and peace. In the short time we were in his house, we enjoyed his hospitality and sense of support. I hope to help him at a suitable opportunity and benefit from his farming and gardening experiences, and of course, be his assistant and have an effective presence.

My stay with Paul and Barb was a truly valuable experience for me. Thank you for picking me up and taking me back to Havelock Harbour – the ride itself was already an adventure for me as a landlubber. The area is absolutely beautiful; you can see the sea glimmering between the islands in many different moods and colours. I had a wonderful room with a fantastic view, and I enjoyed Barbs’ amazing cooking every single day. There’s so much to discover in her kitchen – a real paradise for food lovers! They took me with them, friends and their barbecue. That also was a great experience, thank you! The best part, though, was the time I spent with Paul working outside. There were challenges – like digging holes for posts into New Zealand or building an outdoor shelf for barbs sofa cushions. I learned some really cool practical skills of Paul and really appreciated his golden sense of humour all along. It’s a real pleasure to work alongside him and it was a privilege to get him to know. You can also go fishing close by – the long jetty worked best for me, but kayaking was great too. The Kahuwei I cought were fighting like berserks and tasted marvelous, there should also be snappers around later, I was there in October. Paul and Barb, I wish you lots of success with your projects and a wonderful summer! You are doing a great thing there.
