So better late than never .... Our stay at the lodge was really the highlight of our trip in Canada !! After another workaway place turned really bad, Shannon and Karl took us in last minute in January, despite the fact that they already had 2 other helpers there. We are so glad that we asked them to 'rescue' us, because we spend the winter and spring at the lodge and we had a super good and long time there ! We ended up staying almost five months instead of a couple of weeks. Shannon and Karl are both very generous, sweet, funny, patient, well organized, they care about the safety and well being of all the helpers. The surrondings and the lodge itself are absolutely beautiful, the food was amazing and we met lots of helpers and Yukoners. And of course we loved and are missing so much the dogs Pepper and Keno. You will have a lot of different tasks to do to maintain the place and the well being of everybody (by making bread and cooking, getting firewood everyday etc) and lots of fun diy projects. We miss the place a lot and are sure that we will come back one day ! Thank you again Karl and Shannon for having us, and wishing all the best to you and all of your projects

My time with Georg & Barbara was unforgettable, a beautiful home located in one of the most beautiful places in Ireland. I had an amazing month getting stuck into all the jobs they needed doing, as they had so much to teach. I'd happily go back any chance I could get! Thank you!!

Timon was an absolute pleasure to host. Such positive energy, and openness to learn and help in the wide variety of tasks we had on our homestead. He was super easy to share space with, very respectful, polite, clean and pro-active with tasks. An absolutely great help, we are deeply grateful and would gladly welcome him back anytime!

Jake likes a good conversation which is a welcome quality here. He is one of those people who is able to talk and work, so great chat was had whilst stuff was progressed. He contributed to many different projects and tasks whilst with us and showed a perfect level of common sense and initiative, and the ability to ask when unsure. It was a fun time during Jake's stay with us as we progressed several projects towards completion and succeeded in scoring jobs of the list which is always brilliant! We are grateful for your contributions, thank you.

Cari saluti, Ute

I came here right after finishing my studies and before starting my job, and it turned out to be a wonderful bridge into real life and a great first impression of Workaway itself. The "village" is small and sweet; it takes a little getting used to, but I adapted quickly. The setting is spectacular: you are in the middle of the mountains, and from the conservatory (winter garden) you can even see the sea, a view I never got tired of. I connected really well with Carolina and Beate. I especially enjoyed my dog walks with Beate and our long, thoughtful conversations. Carolina’s cooking was fantastic, mostly using ingredients we shopped for ourselves. It was always delicious and surprisingly motivating after a day’s work. Work-wise, I did a fair bit of trench digging, but I always felt looked after. The hosts paid attention to not overloading me, and whenever I needed a change there was an alternative task to switch to. That flexibility stood out in a very positive way. For transparency: as others have mentioned, I had a couple of personal friction points with Gerd. Nothing major, but enough that I think it is fair to mention for future volunteers. The other Workawayers were lovely, and we even had time on the weekends to head to the beach, which was a real treat for me since it was already autumn back in Germany. Overall, a memorable and rewarding stay that I am happy to recommend to anyone who enjoys mountain life, dogs, hands-on outdoor work, and warm homemade meals.

I had an excellent experience with Sonia and Miguel in Buenos Aires! They are super kind, welcoming, and always in a good mood — with a story to tell or something delicious to share. The tasks were varied and relaxed: I helped with the house move, painted a brick wall, helped build a cabinet, and took care a bit of Simba, their beautiful labrador. They were always very flexible with schedules and made sure I felt comfortable. The house and the neighborhood are beautiful, in Olivos, a very nice area of Buenos Aires. I totally recommend this experience, I really felt at home! Thanks Miguel And Sonia! Give my regards to Simba , Pepo and "la Gorda"! Nahuel

We (a family with two small children and a dog) spent 10 days with Radu in Plaiu and had a truly fantastic time—we highly recommend him! Radu has his heart in the right place; he's super welcoming and we all felt very comfortable around him. He gave us a lot of freedom with flexible working hours while we helped with things like gardening, cooking, and cleaning. He was also incredibly supportive: when our dog got sick, he drove us to the vet and helped with translation. Even more special, when our son had his fifth birthday, Radu and his friend Mariano made sure it was a day we will never forget! We also really enjoyed the game nights we shared together and the interesting conversations. Beyond the host, we absolutely loved the little village of Plaiu. The people were so kind and welcoming; we even got grapes and fruits while walking the streets, despite the language barrier. It felt much more authentic than typical tourist spots and gave us a genuine insight into Romanian culture. Thanks once more Radu!

Today I went down in my garden... That maybe doesn´t seem like a big thing - but since I´m in a wheelchair my own garden has been impossible to reach for some years. Why? Because there had been trees been cut down with branches, twigs and parts of trunks left on my driveway. And apart from that I was victim of a fire that destroyed all buildings and my backyard in 2024. So...yes, today I went down in my garden. Today it´s accessible and so very beautiful, all thanks to Adam! Adam spent three weeks here, most of his working time in the garden (or should we say "former chaos"?) - but he also helped installing good programs on my computer. In the garden he carefully dug down lots of plants that I look forward to see pop up off the ground next year! He also created beautiful places for them to grow. Adam never counted the hours, his only goal was to fulfill his vision of what he could do at this place. But time is limited up here in the soon very snowy north. (I promised to send some pictures when spring arrives and the plants are covered with leaves and in bloom.) To be on Workaway here is a question of "freedom and responsibility" - none of us (Adam & myself) is a morning person and everything worked out fine. I prepared lunch the day before and he heated it up when he was hungry. Simple solution! Adam was very nice and understanding around my dogs. The youngest one is insecure when meeting unknown people but quite soon realized that he was not tooooo dangerous. We had lots of interesting discussions about "anything between here, there and everywhere"...sometimes even in swedish :) (Får får får? Nej, får får lamm!) During his stay here Adam learned to know some of my friends and assistants. He joined on a trip to the Rock carvings and a fire manifestation, had a guided tour at the Goddess museum and also experienced the challenge of climbing up the Fire tower with a view over the whole area. One of our last evenings together Adam practised the noble art of baking cinnamon buns. (Congrats to his family at home who will be served some in the future ;) ) Most of all: I really hope that the cultural exchange here was worth the trip and that we have inspired Adam to spread his wings, reach for the sky and find his next destination! Thanks for coming here to Dogville! Åsa (with 2- and 4-legged friends)

I had the pleasure of working with Dave and Elizabeth for the majority of the summer season making smoothies 2-3 days a week and selling at the markets where I would go usually twice a week. Smoothie production and selling at the markets are basic procedures but require some attention to detail. You won't go hungry as Elizabeth cooks the best vegetarian food! Dave likes to keep busy, but he's a jack of all trades who has lot's of knowledge about things. They own a beautiful property, close to hiking trails, that is a very calm and sobering environment to be in. Also, during the week there are opportunities to go into town and to take day or overnight trips.

I worked and lived with Randy for a whole five weeks. Randy is a fantastic host, open to good conversation, full of trust in me, who was allowed to walk his dog Luca and move freely around his property. I looked after the house, yard, and dogs also alone for a whole weekend. This was also for my second “super host,” Margrit, for whom I also worked during this time near Ostuni. (Please see separate feedback there). The working day at Randy's began in a relaxed manner with a very good breakfast: homemade yogurt, Müsli and figs from the tree. Then there were always a variety of tasks for me to do, which I always enjoyed: feeding the chickens, collecting eggs, tending the large garden, trimming bushes, tending berry bushes, harvesting lots of tomatoes and other vegetables, cooking together – I now know how to make real Italian “sugo” from tomatoes. We also built supports for the beloved jalapenos so that they could grow well. Randy's property is located about 10 minutes by car from Ostuni, in a very quiet area. I was allowed to stay in the small guest house and was always greeted cheerfully by Luca. I really miss this loving, intelligent dog and our evening walks together along the olive groves and trulli. Thank you very much, Randy, for your generous hospitality, the excellent evening meals, our good conversations, and our trips together to Ostuni, Marina Franca, and the sea for a walk with the dogs. You always asked how I was doing and if I needed anything, and gave me tips for excursions. You also always respected my free time, my “days off.” All the best to you, your little paradise, and all its inhabitants, which are now unfortunately far away. Stay healthy...and as we always say in Germany... “you always meet twice in life!” Yours, Ute

We were so lucky to spend more than four weeks at Marie’s wonderful place and were to start to telling you - this is a place you have to go. The work is different- from gardening, harvesting, cleaning to some handy work. Marie see directly where your strenghts are- and have a suitable task. We worked 5h a day and were flexible when to start and end. We enjoyed the work- and the daily pear break between work and every meal was not good- it was excellent! 😅 Marie showed us some beautiful spots with amazing sunrise and sunset- introduced us here lovely friends and family. We collected mushrooms and cuddled Luna- her beautiful cat. She teached us in nowegian with so much passion. We stayed in the hobbit house and felt like home from the first second. Tusen tack dear Marie- for everything you have done for us. 💚

Welcoming Hannah into our home has been a wonderful experience. She's always willing to help with chores around the house and garden. We've also exchanged recipes. I'd go out to train for the marathon, and Hannah would welcome me with a delicious breakfast. Thank you so much. The best part was the cultural exchange we had during those days. Thank you so much for your support; you were always there for me. Best regards, and good luck with your new projects. H&E.

Andre stayed with us as a Workawayer for a couple of weeks, and we couldn’t be happier with her time here. She is a lovely, warm-hearted lady with an amazing work ethic. Andre approached every task with diligence and care, completing everything we asked of her to a high standard. She was a pleasure to have around—kind, considerate, and always willing to lend a hand wherever needed. We truly appreciated her positive attitude and reliability. We would be delighted to welcome Andre back anytime and wholeheartedly recommend her to any future hosts.

Juliette and Remi stayed with us for two weeks in October 2025, and we had a great time together! Even if the weather was quite rough during their stay, Juliette and Remi helped us with a variety of outside works such as preparing the garden for the winter, cleaning and organizing the green house, weeding, collecting of fire wood etc. They also did house work such as cleaning and making dinner for all of us. Delicious! We collected mushrooms together, and they cleaned and prepared mushrooms for drying. We had good chats in the evenings and learnt about each others countries. We give them our best reccommendations.

Pau was truly a wonderful volunteer. She helped with the dogs with such vigor and love, and we can't thank her enough for being part of our little community. 😊 Beyond her working hours, she took the dogs for walks, captured beautiful photos, and was always fun and delightful to have around. She was a great team player, and her energy was contagious—always enthusiastic and eager to help. She went above and beyond by creating QR codes for each of the kennels and helping to streamline the things and making it easier. Her love for the dogs was palpable, and we’re confident that this isn’t the last we’ll see of her. We wholeheartedly recommend her and thank her so much for everything. 💜

We were incredibly lucky to have Euan with us for nearly two months. He was our farm animal guy, last in a streak of a great volunteers and his dedication was outstanding. Even in cold, rainy weather, he was out there in his hoodie and shorts, showing just how tough the Irish can be! 😁 Beyond his work with the farm animals where he helped with everyday tasks, Euan also helped with the dogs, socializing them and taking them on walks. His kindness, great sense of humor, and positive attitude made him a joy to have around. He connected well with everyone, fed the people, was a great board game player and left a lasting impact on all of us. We just want to say thank you, we wholeheartedly recommend him to any future host and look forward to welcoming him back whenever he wishes. 💜
