I stayed in Mirbat for almost three weeks. The team is really helpful with everything, and they give you so much diving and snorkeling possibilities you really can experience the underwater Oman properly :) it's important to know that Mirbat is quiet and small town, so except diving there's not so much to do there - but hey, if you came there for the ocean, you have abundance of that :) The work itself is easy and really not very much of it - mostly reception, chatting with the customers, and taking care of the equipment which also teaches you quite a lot about the "backstage" of diving trips. Thank you to all the team for really nice and generous experience and hope to see you again on some point :)

Mark was a joy to host, and we are hoping he will return! Honestly, he felt like family. He is so respectable and hardworking. He did whatever he could to help with no drama and a great sense of humor. We thoroughly enjoyed him and highly recommend him. You would be lucky to host him!

My stay in Metato was great! Since the very first days I already felt as if I had been there for a longer time, totally integrated into the rhythm of things, the people was very welcoming and the beauty of the place had already won me over. Letizia the host was always very helpful and attentive with everything. The work itself was fine and fair, I was working in the gardens, keeping them in good shape and looking good, I could enjoy the privilege of having some fruits and nuts out of the trees they have there, and also helping out during the dinners offered for guests either as a waiter or hand in the kitchen. The dinners are great because you get to eat traditional Tuscan meals cooked by Claudia who will also teach you the dialect from the region. Together with the other workawayers we shared very good meals and did some international cooking exchange. The place is very peaceful and beautiful, with options for hikes and rivers to swim. We also went to the beach sometimes and had some nights out all together. Also, in your days off, being in Tuscany you can do some short trip to visit the surroundings and of course I had a good chance to improve my little Italian. All in all, top experience and the people really made the difference, I even came back a couple of months later.

I stayed with Dan for two weeks. His wife and children were away at the time, but Dan was very welcoming and hospitable. We shared meals (his cooking was definitely better than mine!) and experiences. We organized the daily work together, always trying to focus on tasks I felt comfortable with. He was always kind and helpful — he even helped me find a job, even though it meant I had to leave his place before the arrival of other volunteers. He wasn’t just my host, he became a friend. Absolutely recommended!

I had the most amazing time at Katrina's and Kristos's place. The experience was way more enlightening and learning for than expected. They're amazing people with the cutest toddler. Katrina's other son is a sweetheart and brings more life and energy with him into the house. They were very accommodating and cooperative and always enthusiastic to share their knowledge. I have learnt so many off grid living skills. Kristos is a gardening genius and Katrina can teach you literally anything about food and dance. I can't wait to come back 😁 The place is pretty remote and doesn't have the 'modern amenities' like municipal electricity and water supply or automatic heating/cooling system, flush toilet or paved roads etcetera, which I loved by the way. But if you have never experienced the off grid life and you're not an enthusiast to learn about it, this place not be a right fit for you.

Robin Philipp, and Julia were an absolute pleasure to host! They are active, nature-loving, spontaneous, yet always polite, reliable, and easy to communicate with. They approached every task with great enthusiasm and skill. I gave them the freedom to choose some of the projects themselves, and they handled everything responsibly and with great attention to detail. They also took care of my home while I was away, which they did perfectly — everything was tidy, organized, and well looked after when I returned. I can highly recommend this lovely couple to any future host. They are trustworthy, independent, and bring positive energy wherever they go. I would gladly welcome them back anytime!

I had the best time living with Irfan, Sinem and Rüzgar on their farm from September to October. From the very start they were extremely friendly and welcoming, and I soon came to feel as though I was a part of the family. Their cooking was phenomenal and plentiful so you will never be left hungry and you won't want to leave! It was amazing to get to know Mustafa and Berfu and I am grateful for their help with regards to exploring the island and its culture. My day to day consisted of 3 hours of work in the morning followed by a long break until the late afternoon where work would commence again for 2 more hours. This gave me plenty of time to relax and spend my own time. The work I did was varied, it involved potting and planting seedlings, clearing land and making the gravel paths, mixing concrete to make the chicken coop fence, among other tasks. This taught me many new skills and gave me an appreciation of the work required to maintain and develop a permaculture farm. It felt rewarding to see all the progress at the end of each day and overall once I eventually left. My weekends were left free for me to explore the island and everyone on the farm was super helpful on where to go and how to get to there. There is a lot to see, I particularly enjoyed visiting the magnificent beaches as well as nearby towns and cities like Nicosia, Famagusta and Kyrenia. During my stay I was introduced to many traditional dishes and drinks, which have given me a wonderful insight to Turkish Cypriot culture. Conversations with the hosts and their friends taught me so much about the island's history and politics. I highly recommend this workaway to anyone who would like to experience Cypriot culture and permaculture farming. Thank you so much for making me feel at home and I will be sure to return!

Tracy might just have been the best thing to happen to me this summer. And if you are an open minded and curious about things a work away here is just the right thing for you. Tracy has a lof knowledge to share while still being curious to learn more from you. I know I learned a lot not only about everyday skills around the house but also about different perspectives on things and life in general. But really curiousity in both directions :D She really knows a lot about the country her region and it's people. And she will make sure you get to places and get to experience it yourself. If you are putting in effort during work, a healthy climate at the house and manage to communicate she will reward that with even more effort from her side in ensuring you have a great time and can feel at home! Open and honest communication and knowing that you are heard, understood and respected. That might be the thing I am most greatful about and what I take with me for the future. And about the work. Even though she hast some bigger and more specific projects she'd be happy to have help for, Tracy always said "Everything that you do, that I don't have to do is great" So it is really about helping out and seeing what needs to be done. Open eyes. But you can of course always ask and she will help you make a list of things that you can then do in your own time. So you don't necessarily need to know how to restore an old roof or anything. ;) But in case that you do, definetly also text her! :D So Tracy is loving, fun, kind, fair, inteligent, respectful and someone who will make sure you have a great time! As long as you manage to be a decent and honest person yourself. And this is obviously not a holiday hotel. You are still a guest. Just remember that and be respectful and mindful. Communication and all :) But if you manage to keep that in mind. It will feel more like a home and you will have the greatest time! I highly recommend staying with Tracy!

This was our first Workaway experience and honestly, I don't think we will ever find a host that will compare to this family! The farm is situated in the most beautiful Tuscan countryside within an easy train ride to Florence. We spent an amazing two weeks on the farm helping with the olive harvest, farm jobs, wine pressing and enjoying delicious lunches! A massive thank you goes to Carlo and Giada for making everyday fun and for being very patient and kind with us! We wholeheartedly recommend this amazing family!

Louise and Chris stayed at my place for 2.5 months. It was a pleasure getting to know them as they are such lovely people to have around. During their stay they lived on-site but in the gite, which gave them lots of privacy and independence. They had their own car too, so they were able to go out and explore the local area easily and shop for themselves etc. We did enjoy weekly meals together though, tea breaks most days and occasional beers on hot days after work, which was nice as they are so easy to chat to, well-travelled and interesting. Chris and Louise are such hard workers and always keen to help. Such an incredible amount has been achieved here since they arrived, it’s actually hard to remember it all but… here are a few of the projects they achieved: Huge areas of the gardens, grounds and fence lines have literally been attacked with slash hooks, the tractor and flail and overgrown bushes/ brambles cleared Low branches have been cut, opening everywhere up beautifully Ivy has been removed from about 50 trees A wood processing area has been created and my log store pretty much filled with wood (amazing!) Perimeter fencing has been strengthened and added to The internal electric fencing has been completely re-worked The stables/ barn has been completely cleared and sorted…and all boxes labelled I could go on…! During the stay I went away for several nights while Chris and Louise looked after my animals etc. I was able to go away in complete confidence that they would have the best care and that routines would be followed. Chris and Lou were happy to administer medication to my older dog and horse. I was confident that they would notice if anything wasn’t quite right which was reassuring. I also knew that the house and gardens would be well maintained. I certainly wasn’t disappointed- on my return the place looked better than when I left! Tidy, clean and with chopped wood for the fires stacked in the house! Thank you! I wholeheartedly recommend Louise and Chris. They are most welcome to return here anytime. You would be very, very lucky to have them stay with you. Come back again soon Chris and Lou! ! Elizabeth 🙋‍♀️

Tack for bilderna du skittade mig.

we stayed two weeks in september at annette’s place and it was such a rich and memorable experience ! our daily tasks included cleaning the stables, feeding all the animals, taking care of the sheep, bringing them to the pasture every day, and preparing food for later use. we also had some occasional missions like building a new enclosure, picking fruits and nuts, sorting them, and looking after the compost. at first, it can look a bit challenging if, like us, you have no real farm experience, but everything can be learned with time, communication, and a bit of effort :) don’t be afraid to make small mistakes or to ask (and re-ask!) annette if something isn’t clear. she’s always kind and understanding, and it’s better to ask than to cause a little farm disaster, haha ! it’s important to understand that nothing on a farm happens automatically, you work with animals who each have their own personality ! sometimes the schedule changes unexpectedly, but nothing is unmanageable if you stay calm and patient with them :) we were very well accommodated, with our own space, and the bathroom and toilets were easily accessible. everyone there is very respectful, which made daily life really pleasant. the meals were homemade and vegan. every day we had a different, delicious dish made with ingredients straight from the garden. and what a pleasure to eat something that you just picked a few minutes ago from the garden ! we also got to share our days with annette’s daughter and brother, who are both lovely people and great company klauspeter brought such good vibes to the house with his music choices : as classical music fans, it was amazing to end a workday with such a beautiful atmosphere !!! we absolutely loved getting to know each of the animals (even the geese, haha ! sending love to herbert and his girls), and spending quiet moments with them. sitting with the chickens and cuddling the sheep were truly the best rewards after a day of work :) thank you so much, annette, for your kindness, your patience, and for welcoming us into your home. your project is truly beautiful and admirable, full of meaning, kindness, and dedication. we wish you, your family, and all the animals the very best for the future, and it will be such a pleasure to come back to germany someday to see everyone again ! <3
