Alina was only here for 2 weeks, but during that time she was a great help and very quickly figured out how things worked on the property. She washed windows, detailed my car, cleaned horse stalls, groomed the horses, kept the house clean and cooked some lovely meals. Alina is a joy to host. I hope she comes back one day. Good luck and safe travels, honey! 💝

I spent a very enjoyable 3 week in Jill's and Patrick's finca in Mijas. The work was varied and interesting and they both went out of their way to make me feel welcome and valued. Patrick worked along side me each day and he thaught me a lot about work safety. Jill is a fabulous cook and her cinnamon pastries are to die for. Hablaron español todo el tiempo para ayudarme a practicar mi español. Muchos gracias para todos. John

My 2 weeks with Esperanza was just amazing. From the start, she made me truly feel like part of the family. Esperanza is incredibly kind and hard-working. Not only does she (and her partner Christian) cook amazing breakfast, lunch, and dinner (including delicious homemade bread), she is always there to help out with the tasks, to talk, to even go for walks and go kayaking with her and her daughters. The place, and the volunteership in general, is very peaceful. The work itself is chill, it’s mostly garden work. When it rains, there’s simple tasks to do around the house like painting, organizing, etc. Their was always a lot of flexibility in the schedule. Her daughters are incredibly sweet and mature, and it was a pleasure watching movies and talking with them too. Gracias por todo Esperanza, Christian, Lia y Alme!!!!!

I had a great time staying with Marin and Kristian in Hvalvik! They are really kind and easygoing people and I learned a lot about faroes culture and their way of life! I enjoyed having two weeks of slow and quiet living during my travels. I can absolutly recommend staying with them! :)

The stay here was absolutely amazing, it's perfect especially if you are a first-time Workawayer. I stayed there for three weeks and it's crazy how close you can get to people in such a short time. You also have great chances to meet other Workawayers there, it will feel like family. A own vehicle could be useful, but they will make sure, that you have the chance to see something from the Sunshine Coast and do cool activities like Kajaking or drive the side-by-side. I highly recommend this host!!!

If you are lucky enough to host Kate and Dima you won't be disappointed! I consider myself very fortunate to have had their generous help for a couple of weeks recently. They are an interesting, congenial and hardworking couple who are fun to have around and who can cook some great dishes including many from Ukraine and Poland. No job seemed to phase/faze (something for you to puzzle over Kate!) them and they willingly and expertly sorted out the water storage tanks in the house and flushed the system, fixed a badly leaking gutter, replaced some manky grout in a shower and rehung the door, froze and otherwise preserved a lot of apples, weeded a lot of gravel, and cleared a mountain of bracken and brambles, etc. The house and garden hasn't been so well maintained for ages! I hope the various trips, interesting conversations,'correct English' discussions, bilingual scrabble and other pastimes we enjoyed together went some way towards balancing this very successful workaway exchange. Come back any time Kate and Dima!

Isabell is lovely in every way. Great communication and loved by the whole family. We loved having her here in our family and we loved having her play piano and making music with her. Totally recommend her!

My main reasons for wanting to volunteer with Maika and Patrick on their permaculture farm were to be immersed in nature while learning about growing food with permaculture methods and to spend time in Finland, which is a country I’d wanted to visit for years. My experience there turned out to be exactly what I was hoping for. The area surrounding the farmhouse was beautiful and I felt calmer and more relaxed there than I had in a long time. I also learnt a lot about growing, harvesting and storing vegetables like onions and potatoes, as well as traditional farming techniques like using wooden stakes for drying hay. I feel I learnt and did a lot, despite only being there for two weeks. The farmhouse itself was also pretty and homely and Maika and Patrick were very welcoming. I went fishing for the first time and used the fish Maika and I caught to cook a meal. We also used their sauna and dipped in the cold lake. I'd never used a traditional wood-fired sauna before and it was a great experience. I would definitely recommend this WorkAway host!

I stayed at Raimundo’s farm for 2 weeks. Raimundo is very laid-back and chill. He taught me to how to drive stick so I could drive his car to the grocery store, something I’m very thankful for. There is the option for morning or afternoon shifts, and the jobs are done with the workers. The jobs can be intense, but the 5 hours are respected. I explored the farm on my free time, but it rained a lot during my stay which made it difficult to do more. I arrived here before the start of the next “volunteer season” (I was unaware of this) so I was the only volunteer. Because of this, it was easy to get bored. Despite that, my experience here was good overall, I would just double-check to make sure you’re going when theirs others. I heard of times when there were 10-15 volunteers at once.

It was a wonderful experience. I was welcomed like a member of the family right from the start. Even though I was ill during the first week, no one made me feel bad about it. I stayed with them from May to mid-September, mainly doing ground maintenance work. I highly recommend it.

We welcomed Prisca and Antonin in 2023 for three weeks, and we’ve stayed in touch ever since — they have truly become great friends. They fit right into our family from the very first day, and the kids absolutely loved spending time with them. During their stay, we had a very busy fall season with a big harvest and lots of wildlife activity around the farm. They were always ready to help, no matter the task — whether it was working in the garden, preparing firewood, helping the kids with their homework, or taking care of daily chores. Their positive attitude, reliability, and kindness made everything smoother and more enjoyable. We warmly recommend them to any host — they are wonderful, caring people who bring great energy wherever they go.

I just noticed that Workaway is lacking the possibility of rating the Food Experience, and it is a real shame. This place is a solid 5 star Workaway destination and a 5 Michelin Stars retreat. The hosts are kind, funny, versatile and welcoming. The place is lovely and peaceful; heaven on earth. The work was hard and very rewarding. The food that Francis cooks with so much dedication is a treat of its own, he blew my mind almost everyday with intense flavors that got me to the verge of tears. I loved this experience so much. Thanks a lot Yufu and Francis.

After three weeks of volunteering, Simon from the UK has finished his time with us and is now continuing his journey. Despite the heat, he worked incredibly hard every day and cared for all the dogs with so much patience and kindness. Quiet and thoughtful by nature, Simon’s calm presence and strong sense of responsibility made a real difference here — not just for the dogs, but for all of us. We’re so happy to hear he’ll keep helping animals as he travels, especially pursuing his passion for dog training. Thank you, Simon, for your compassion, dedication, and gentle strength. You’ll always be remembered with warmth and gratitude :)

Our 12-day Workaway stay with Manon and Seb was absolutely amazing! They are one of the loveliest couples we’ve ever met along with their sassy fur baby, Mooi. It was a truly well-rounded Workaway experience where we exchanged cultures, shared our food and languages, and created many beautiful memories together. Despite the language barrier, we had so many great conversations with the help of Manon, Google translate, ChatGPT, and we never really felt like we were speaking different languages. We mainly helped with their renovation project and some cleaning. It’s truly impressive what this young couple has accomplished, very inspiring to see their hard work and creativity come to life. Manon is full of love and energy. She always checked on us to make sure we were comfortable and happy. She even went the extra mile to help us find a garage when we had an issue with our car. I also had the privilege of visiting her school and witnessing the special work she does there, it was such a meaningful experience. Working with Seb was wonderful too. He’s calm, patient, and easy-going. Even though we hadn’t done renovation or construction work before, he made it interesting for us and showed us everything step by step. His friendly and reassuring manner made us feel comfortable and confident while learning new skills. He always prioritized safety and created a relaxed atmosphere during work. Their dog Mooi was adorable and protective — we bonded with the whole family! Our room was beautiful and private, and the house was spotless and cozy. We also had plenty of time to rest and enjoy ourselves. Manon and Seb are truly kind and genuine people. I even got to celebrate my birthday at their place, and they made me feel so special. Those two weeks were unforgettable filled with laughter, learning, and warmth. We left with not just wonderful memories, but friends for life. ❤️

Hosting Ingrid as a volunteer was great. She is one of the kindest, funniest and hardworking person that has come to help us. She stayed for a month, and the time flew. We really appreciate all the help and great attitude. She has our highest recommendetion as a volunteer.

Judith joined us here at the Sanctuary for about 1,5 months. She mainly took care of the horses, feeding them their hay every morning, filling their water tanks, and checking if everything was okay with them. She wasn't very much used to horses yet, but she learned quickly and I could sense she loved to be with them. Judith has a soft and calm energy which is wonderful for the animals, and they responded well to her. She also gave the chickens their food every day and let them roam free. We have one cat, Simba, and one other cat, Minou, who decided to come live here, too, and they live at the side where the caravan is. Both Simba and Minou loved to have Judith around, also because she gave them their food :-), but also because they love the nice attention from her. It's easy to communicate with Judith, and she was always very interested in all the animals and everything involved at the Sanctuary. Whenever she noticed or didn't know something, she always told me or asked. Thank you so much, Judith, for all your help! You were a great support for me while I took care of all the dogs. Wishing you all the best in your journey and next adventures!

Cyril, a student from France, came to Zurich to attend a Hackathon and spent a few days at the Villa. During his stay, he was eager to learn about a variety of tasks — from removing old carpet glue on wooden floorboards to discovering how to forage for dandelions and other wild herbs in the garden, and how to use them in the kitchen or for natural remedies. His curiosity and openness to new experiences were truly appreciated. In addition to the practical work around the house, Cyril put his technical talent to use by taking the first steps toward building a website for the Villa. Thoughtful and bright, he applied himself with diligence and care. I wish him all the very best in his continued studies and future projects — may his journey in life be as inquisitive and full of discovery as his time here.

Iris is a shining star. She arrived here with the best attitude and lots of ideas and actions to make them happen. She is eager, kind, and full of energy. Very organized and pragmatic to ensure her work has a clear and direct impact. We went through a terrible situation while she was staying with us and she was immediately proactive in doing everything in her power to appease the situation and make it better for everyone. She became part of the family and will be welcome to visit us and be part of our project any time she wishes. We can't recommend her enough.
