I had a great time at Mike's. His land is beautiful and spacious. Mike is an incredible energetic guy and its really cool how he has a vision for his land. You can see it coming to fruition and even cooler you can be a part of it! Mike will explain everything he needs doing carefully and patiently. Which is great when youre like me and you have not a lot of work experience in this field. Overall Mike is a kindhearted and open man, with whom you can have great dinner time conversations. It was an great experience with him and the two other workawayers.

I already miss Daniel, who was very kind, very welcoming ! I can never tell how this experience touched me. I felt very lucky to share a bit of Daniel's life. He took me to places where he is working, presented me to multiples incredible persons, helped me improve my portuguese (at least my understanding of it !) I am very grateful that I found him for my first workaway experience. I wish you all the best Daniel, and see you soon, on the water or elsewhere, for sure !!

This place is a true paradise with incredible hosts - the most hospitable, kind and genuinely beautiful souls I have ever met! You will spend your working hours mostly in an absolutely mesmerizing garden, surrounded by funny animals you’ll fall in love with in an instant. Your help there is very appreciated, and Susan and Finn are always so encouraging and supportive. You also will have plenty of time to explore the island, its cute cities and beautiful beaches. I just can’t thank you enough, Susan and Finn, for hosting me, it felt like my second home and fam! Hope to be back someday, With love!!

We spent two wonderful weeks at Javi's place! We slept in the caravan in the garden, which gave us our own private space. Unfortunately, we didn't get to meet Javi during our stay as he was away on business, but he trusted us with the tasks and the place, which we really appreciated. We shared these two weeks with other volunteers. Every day, we worked at our own pace on the tasks he sent us by email. Communication with Javi was very easy, he is very responsive! The place is beautiful, surrounded by nature, very relaxing and rejuvenating. However, it is difficult to get around without a car. In our case, this didn't bother us because we came with the aim of resting. Thank you to Javi for his trust, kindness and attention towards us.

Matěj has been a great help. He loves to work concentrated and keeps going on! He is good with diy skills and once he knows what is where to find he works independent. Matěj is a friendly dude. Plays the guitar and sings well! He is a very curious individual as well. Matěj loves to chat with others and has interesting things to say.

I stayed one month with Aimee, and oh my — I’ve done many, many Workaways over the past three years, but this one was my absolute favorite! Aimee is the sweetest soul. Her love for all animals is both amazing and inspiring. Her place is magical — filled with love, peace, laughter, and good food! We had fun board game nights, relaxing times in the hot tub, and lovely moments exploring the surroundings. Working with the animals and getting to know their special personalities was wonderful — they’re all so adorable! It truly felt like my chosen little family. It was only a month, but it felt like we’d known each other for a long time. I can highly recommend Aimee as your next Workaway host!

Anna and I stayed with Patrick and Marcelle for a week in summer. Extremely quiet cottage life. This is a place which really earns the title 'the middle of nowhere'. I consider this a good thing, but I can imagine hyperactive city kids getting jittery as they look out the car window and see nothing but fields in all directions forever. Standing in the landscape is like standing between two parallel mirrors showing an infinite successive image of the same field, over and over again. France has so much land, one thinks, looking at it. I think they should give Gascony back to King Charles (real opinion!). There is, however (a truly bizarre fact) a little alternative culture scene in this middle of nowhere. There are lots of retirees, yes, but also lots of dreadlock/tattoo people who have exited their normal lives to come and build something out in the void. I had two nice outings to the zones with cool young people, one at a bar, one at a mill. Hard as it is to believe there are indeed cool young people out there, doing things. Anyway, enough about that. Patrick is a professional chef, as becomes very evident very quickly by the excellent food. As well as speaking perfect English, he also randomly speaks perfect German. His French is probably also perfect, but since I don't understand French, I will make the unsubstantiated claim that Patrick speaks mediocre French. He has a thoughtful gaze and a baritone. He has specific, and interesting opinions on most things. He smokes cigarettes and gazes into the rising smoke like one of those communist philosophers. Marcelle is kind and has something slightly sneaky in her eyes. It is harder to describe her in pithy prose than Patrick, which isn't to say she lacks pith. I also worked a bit less with her than with P. She was a pleasure to be around. She also speaks infinite languages - like all Dutch people - and was forthcoming with lots of small comedy details relating to the mayor. (Every French village has a mayor; if there are two people living somewhere, one of them has to elect the other one the mayor). I don't remember too much of what the work was - vague memories of building a fence to prevent the talkative neighbour from starting conversations - but it has left me with no scars or serious mental problems. The tone of this review is testament to them having a sense of humour, which was nice. Our time there exemplified what the kids call 'Cottage-Core'. It was rustic, like a John Constable painting. If you are looking for a rustic zone, to stare at cows for forty minutes, and eat delicious food, and meet a surprising number of people with dreadlocks and tattoos, I heartily recommend this Workaway. With best wishes for the immediate return of Gascony, Jörg Macjörgenson

Eva, Xenia and heppu the doggo were amazing to have around, fitted seemingly into our place! I had to unfortunately work quite a few 12 hour shifts whilst the were here but it was amazing that I could trust them to look after our place like their own, carry on some outdoor tasks, look after the animals and take turns cooking with other housemates, they were both lovely inspiration to have around and also spend free time with💫 They are always welcome back and can definitely recommend them to other hosts🌚

I spend 1 month here, and hope to come back some day. It was an amazing experience, looking after monkeys and seeing them become more and more independent. Fred and the whole team really care about all the animals, and the goal is that they will be released back into the wild. Which means no contact with the monkeys, but feed them, observe and follow them in the jungle. I saw all the different species, and it was so fun to see them playing in their natural habitat. I also loved spending time with Kyra the bush dog. With her you can play and cuddle. The food was amazing! A local lady makes lunch, and we took turns cooking dinner. They have made some changes for food safety (no meat, no raw vegetables). It was also a lot of fun with the other volunteers, and we did a fire on the beach every week. I would highly recommend coming here if you care about animals, and want to experience living in the jungle for a while.

João was great to have here at Sacristía, both for company and for his help. Very eager and willing to help and learn, doing physically hard tasks and cooking the most delicious food as well. Will love to see you again some day. Enjoy the travels :D

I stayed at Matti’s place for nine nights, and the time passed so quickly. He had many responsibilities, but he always invited me to join and made me feel comfortable and happy. I helped with cleaning, cooking, and wrapping presents — the tasks were simple, but he always thanked me for them. He was so kind that it was really easy and fun to spend time with him. We exchanged a lot about our cultures and languages, and I came to love Finland even more. I also really enjoyed spending one night in the Tipi house — making a short video there became one of my unforgettable memories in Finland. I’m so glad I met Matti and had the chance to visit Syöte. Thank you very much for the lovely time :)

We hosted a Polish family of four for about a month: the mother Agnieszka, the father Marcin, their 12-year-old daughter Maya, and 9-year-old Isabella. We had a wonderful experience together, definitely enriching thanks to the exchange of cultural and culinary knowledge. The couple appeared very close-knit, showing a strong sense of understanding and mutual support in carrying out the tasks assigned to them with diligence and responsibility. Even the children gave their small contribution during the grape harvest and in household chores, helping to set the table and serve coffee at the end of lunch.

Anna and I stayed in the abbey for one month in the dark depths of winter. The Abbey is in the middle of nowhere, by the deepest lake in Europe. We didn't leave the grounds once during the entire month. The property is used by Chemin Neuf, a neo-monastic order with an ecumenical and charismatic twist. They wear beige, and some of them have families. The Abbey is also used as a 'discipleship school' where young people come to discover their vocation. These young people (the HDS) were the main people we had contact with over our stay. We wished we could have gotten to know them a bit better. The work is a little bit random, and involved lots of weeding and other meditative tasks. Come in a contemplative frame of mind and all will be well. Main positives: - people: everyone was very nice and accommodating. We were made to feel very welcome. - location: staggeringly beautiful; lots of boating and hiking opportunities. - accomodation: lovely rooms, lovely houses, lovely atmosphere - language: very good for someone who wants to learn French Main negatives: - integration: Workaways were kept at distance from the community, and from the HDS kids, which made sense some of the time, but not always. Many of the boundaries seemed random, unnecessary, and poorly communicated. There also seemed to be a strange assumption that the Workawayers were disinterested in the spiritual side of the Abbey life - which may be true for some, I concede, but certainly wasn't for me. I wish I could have learned a bit more. - food: the groceries came from what local supermarkets were about to throw away. I am in favour of preventing food waste, just be prepared for many stale baguettes, and out of date yogurts. The communal meals were usually quite nice, considering what the chefs were working with, but I wouldn't recommend it to a foodie. On balance, and especially now in memory, the positives far outweigh the negatives and I can recommend this to anyone who wants to experience monatisc life. Liebe Grüße! 👋
