I have just got back home from the best trip I've ever had in my life. The heart and mind are full of memories and love for this beautiful community that Shamser really knew how to build. it is really a type of volunteering that can give you a deeper human experience and add more quality to your life! Shamser is the perfect principal for this academy-kind, wise, and genuinely human. Everything at the school runs smoothly because of his open heart. All of us were like a family, and you will never feel alone. I will DEFINITELY come back in the next years .

I arrived at the place planning to stay only a few months, knowing that the property was out for sale, and I ended up staying here! I spent the first 2 years as Workawayer, and few months a go I got employed by Felix therefore, I am now based in Spain. We built a strong connection based on trust and respect. From the moment I arrived, Felix and Connie welcomed me warmly. I was given an independent, clean and fully equipped studio with everything I needed for a comfortable stay. The place offers peace, beauty, tranquillity, lots of nature with stunning views and a fabulous pool! In order to explore the area or shop groceries, having your own car or transport is essential. The works vary with the season, weather, and number of guests. My tasks included general housekeeping, cleaning and resetting rooms, guest check-ins/out, setting tables, serving meals and drinks, cooking paella, grilling, light gardening, maintenance, decorating, painting, driving, coordinating repairs when needed and feeding my best friend MINNI the cat! I love this beautiful and peaceful paradise. A huge thank-you to Felix & Connie and all the friends for the experiences, kindness and the extra kilos! 😄

Marvin & Lorena stayed with us for almost 3 weeks and we thoroughly enjoyed having them here. They were excellent houseguests, They fit right into the rhythm of our household and it was great to have them around. We enjoyed dining with him every night and getting to know them. We really appreciated their flexibility with their schedule because there was some work that was absolutely weather dependent, and we had to beat the rain, And so they shifted their days off to be able to get it done. Marvin helped my husband install cedar shakes on the side of our house and it looks beautiful Lorena helped out so much around the barn and the yard and she’s a very experienced horse woman so this was a real relief for me because I was able to just let her handle the horses without needing to be there and it was such a help They’re also some other jobs such has had to be done even in the rain and they were troopers. We really appreciated it. Our horses just loved, Lorena, And both of them were so patient with our pug who is very cute, but very needy and demanding. And they just took him in stride as the “boss” of the house We can highly recommend them for anybody that is looking for an excellent work away. Stay thank you so much Marvin and Lorena.

I stayed with Ms. Van and her family for a week, and it was an interesting and fun experience. The kids are cute and full of energy, and Ms. Van cooks very delicious food. Grandma is incredibly caring, she smiled a lot, did my laundry almost every day, and always made sure I had fresh water. The family has hosted many volunteers before, so they are quite used to it. The two boys are the only ones who speak English, which means most of your communication will be with them. Sometimes the family was busy or speaking only Vietnamese with each other, which could be difficult for me; but over the days we got along better and had fun playing games and doing homework together in the evenings (around 7–9 PM). In the mornings I joined the kindergarten for a few hours, which was nice to see. The schedule can be very spontaneous, so being flexible helps. The family lives in a very safe and modern complex with shops, a pool, and a gym nearby — it’s a comfortable place to stay. One of my highlights was spending a day with Ms. Tran and her kids. She showed me so much of her life and local places, and it felt really warm and joyful. Overall, this workaway gave me a real glimpse into Vietnamese family life and culture. It can take a bit of time to get used to the language barrier, but it’s a nice experience if you’re open-minded and independent.

Staying with Charmaine and Terry on the Sunshine Coast was an absolute pleasure. They are the most wonderful hosts, warm, easy-going, genuinely interested in learning about other cultures while happily sharing their own. They also are very knowledgeable about home renovations so you’ll learn a lot of new skills! We had great conversations, enjoyed several barbecues together, and loved every single moment spent with them. Their home is beautiful, and the swimming pool was such a treat after/during a warm day of work. Charmaine is an amazing cook, every meal she prepared was delicious and made with so much care. The tasks they asked us to do were always fair and reasonable, and the workload felt very balanced, especially considering how comfortable and well-treated we were in return. This was our very first Workaway experience, and we honestly couldn’t have dreamed of a better one. We spent ten fantastic days there, full of laughter, good food, and meaningful exchanges. And of course, their dog Kobi is absolutely adorable, he made the stay even more special. Thank you again, Charmaine and Terry, for these wonderful moments and for making our first Workaway experience so memorable!

Aashi and her family are incredibly kind, welcoming, and genuine. From the time we arrived, they made us feel completely at home with family. Their two children are absolutely lovely, and easy to look after, which made everything feel calm and pleasant. The house has a peaceful atmosphere, and it’s clear that the family truly cares about making their guests feel comfortable. The food was delicious, and Aashi always made sure we were well fed and happy. They also invited us to take part in several activities within the local community, which gave us a real sense of connection with the island and its people. It was great to see how involved and respected they are in their community, it made the experience feel even more authentic. We unfortunately had to leave after only three days because of an unexpected emergency, so we might not be the best people to describe what it’s like to live on the island long-term. That said, in the short time we spent there, we could already feel how generous, thoughtful, and caring this family is. Even though our stay was brief, it left us with a very warm impression. We’re truly grateful for their kindness and hospitality, and we would absolutely recommend staying with them to anyone looking for a genuine and heartwarming Workaway experience.

Staying with Janine and Jon was really lovely! They are super warm and friendly people and will invite you for a drink or coffee and a chat. Their accomodation is beautiful and so is their yard and all their sweet animals. I had a nice and reflective time being there, since I am traveling alone I was enjoying working in the garden and listening to music and podcasts and taking life slow. There is plenty to explore around the area and Janine really encouraged me to go check it out, and gave me great advice on what to see. Go and check it out for yourself!

Daniela is a great team player who is thoughtful, hard working, and very creative. She helped us tremendously with our Art Crawl event and did amazing designs with a wood burning kit on our cedar swallow nesting boxes. Good sense of humour and always a beautiful smile and positive attitude. Always welcome to come back here!

Aline and Amaury were a great couple to help us with our projects and to share our home. They were very hard workers and meticulous in any task that they took on. Aline reorganized my workshop and made it a lot easier to find things and put them away. They helped us in the garden on numerous occasions. Amaury set up a solar installation for the workshop and greenhouse, and I couldn’t be more pleased. The outcome was exceptional. Everything that he does is with incredible attention to detail and completed in a professional manner. Aline made some very useful architectural plans for our house, which we greatly appreciated. They also cooked some wonderful meals for us, especially the tiramisu dessert. All in all , it was a joy to share our lives with them. They are a warm and fun couple who would fit well in any hosting situation.

I volunteered in Kampot for a week. My exchange involved helping with social media, creating posts, and guiding one of the staff members. The language barrier made it a bit challenging since they didn’t speak English, but it turned out to be a fun and rewarding experience. The eco village is beautifully located by the river, close to the main area of Kampot. The food was delicious, and the staff were all incredibly kind and welcoming. On my days off, I went kayaking, explored the national park, and visited the local market and charming streets of Kampot town. Overall, it was such a lovely and enriching experience! Thank You Freya for hosting me..

I stayed with Irene and her lovely family for three months, and it was an amazing experience. During my stay, I helped with cooking, cleaning, gardening, cleaning rental room, and sometimes looking after her father. Irene was so kind and always spoke English clearly, which helped me a lot. She listened to my worries and gave me great advice — she truly became my Australian mom! Her two daughters and her boyfriend were also very warm and welcoming, and I always felt like part of the family. Everyone seemed to enjoy Japanese food, so I had a lot of fun cooking for them. Irene’s cooking was also delicious, and sometimes she even taught me how to make dishes. It was such a wonderful experience, and I’m really grateful to have met such a lovely family!!

Julia and Yolanda helped out for two weeks at my house and land in southern Italy, and proved to be a real pleasure to host throughout. Whatever task I set them, from weeding to maintaining vegetable beds, from cracking walnuts to painting, they did with enthusiam, good humour, thoroughness and hard work. Their visit culminated in three days of olive picking, a challenging activity at the best of times, but made even harder this year by the relative scarcity of olives. Without their efforts I would never have achieved such a good harvest. Hosting Workawayers is about more than just the work to me though, and Julia and Yolanda were everything I hope for in guests. My house and way of living are not without their quirks, but throughout their stay, they were respectful, trustworthy, clean and tidy, and above all engaging company. I particularly enjoyed the wide ranging conversations during and after our evening meals. The post dinner movie nights were a real treat too. All in all, I would have no hesitation in recommending Julia and Yolanda to other Workaway hosts. And I wish them all the best in their future endeavours.

Thank you, Susan, Jerome, Pia, and Ludo, for such a wonderful time on Waiheke Island and in your home! I had the chance to experience my first Workaway with them, and what can I say, it was such a beautiful start to my New Zealand adventure. They (along with Fergus & co.) welcomed me into their home effortlessly, I immediately felt included in their daily life and family routines. Everything was taken care of: the most delicious food, inspiration for recipes in the kitchen, plenty of cuddles with the sweetest animals, chats with curious and open-minded children, glimpses into a truly sustainable lifestyle, a stunning island to explore, cozy comfort and privacy in my own room and plenty of weeding and other garden and household tasks to fill the work hours. The working hours were fair, and Susan and Jerome always checked in on me and encouraged me to speak up if I needed anything. They were extremely understanding of my gluten-free diet and always provided options, which I deeply appreciated. Spending time with them brought me joy and even stirred nostalgic memories of my own family life. Also, Pia and Ludo are wonderful personalities, always up for a chat, curious, open, and engaging. I truly enjoyed my time with everyone and loved seeing such thoughtful and value-oriented parenting in action. Overall, it really was enriching, and I would gladly come back anytime🌞 Thank you!

Emmy and Matteo stayed with us for 3 weeks in October 2025. It was their first experience in Australia and their confidence with speaking the language greatly improved during the time they spent with us. We had a wonderful time with them. Emmy cooked a few meals and made a delicious Lemon Meringue Pie! Matteo was always the first to set the table and always packed the dishwasher. Around the property, they helped build a 6m x 6m carport, level a deck, oil the pool surrounds, build a section of fence, run ~500m of water pipe line, clear up timber debris, plant some trees and other tasks. They were happy, enthusiastic, helpful young people and a delight to have in our household. They are welcome back here anytime.
