Julieta is a gem — we would be happy to host her again and again and again! She is calm yet full of energy, always ready to help (and believe us, her help is exactly the kind you hope for). She has so many skills that it’s hard to keep track. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the chance to see everything she can do, but we’re sure she’s capable of almost anything you might need: she’s a creative chef, a true artist, and incredibly handy. She quickly became an amazing part of our community, sharing her stories and ideas with everyone. She’s the kind of person you look at when you’re 15 and think, “Wow, I want to be like her when I grow up.” If Julieta wants to join your project, just say yes — you’ll be charmed by her personality and impressed by her work. And we truly hope our paths cross again someday. Thank you for everything, queen!

I spend two months with Carlotta, Marco and the 3 dogs ahah It was an amazing experience. It was great having to spend this much time with Carlotta, you never get bored with her and her crazy brain 🧠😝 Everything was very well explained in the profile so when I arrived I had no bad surprises, only good ones 😋👍🏻 It was exactly what I needed. Working in the garden all morning, with the dogs checking regularly if you are doing it right 😄 It was really nice to see how the garden changed with only a few new things done. Some tasks are more physical than others, like turning over the compost, but it is super interesting and rewarding to see and understand that it is working nicely. The house is in the countryside and you can't get enough of the view. For me it was perfect, I needed some time away from the madness of the city, and I was looking for some alone and quiet time to work on me and my crochet projects. On my free days I visited Rome a few times and also Tivoli, I was able to visit its 3 villas 🤩 I accompanied Carlotta a few afternoons to the palestra, well she was going and I was walking around and had coffee or some pastries. On the lasts days before I had to come back home, we collected the olives which was so fun and definitely my favorite activity!! Going up the trees and try to catch them all, it was very rewarding and really nice to do with Carlotta and Marco. In the end, we created a special bond, I know I'll come back soon, to work again, or to see them if I'm ever in the area. Grazie per tutto 😚

Marc, I want to leave you a big time THANK YOU here for the wonderful four weeks I had! I was a bit anxious since I came there with almost no experience with regard to farm work but I had so much fun and learned a lot :) And that’s not only because the farm itself is a sweet place on earth but also because of the kind, open-minded host you were. I appreciate so much that you held a great deal on self-dependence and trusted us workawayers with trying and learning new things, that you were always available for help and advise but also for just having a nice chat and daaaamn good food <3 I absolutely recommend you as a host and look forward to visit you again some time! Hug ever goat from me :D

Gergo at 19 is on a clear path towards his goal of film making, He is clear, calm, polite, and fulfill the tasks that are asked of him in a pleasant and fun energy. He is contemplative and kind, creative and suited to any multimedia tasks that you may have. He also doesn't mind repetitive harvesting as long as there is a place to rest afterwards! We loved meeting you and having you in our team. Thanks Gergo! the film we made this week was so much fun, unique and you worked so hard to get it done, it is a beautiful memory to share with you and our gang of friends.

Had a great experience here with Shirley and the gang there at the time :) We were building a tiny home using pallet wood , which I learnt loads while doing, and helped out on various interesting projects on the land. I was staying in a cabin myself at the back of the land which was unreal, and dips in the pool after work were ideal. Everyone there was super sound and Monda itself is a lovely little pueblo only a walk away. Def planning to go back soon Gracia a todas

Katie-Rose is a lovely calm, funny, mature, considerate, hard working girl. We enjoyed her company very much and wish she didn't have to leave so soon. But she did everything she was asked to do and more. Including giving the dogs extra walks and cuddles, and washing up and helping with the food prep without asking. Katy would be a benefit to many families who need help around their home and garden and animals, and will lend a hand to any task, also a great games player around the table during an evening. J'ai passé deux très belles semaines ici ! Le travail est cool, il est possible de souvent travailler en extérieur, notamment au jardin, ce que j'ai trouvé vraiment vivifiant. L'ensemble des projets de la communauté sont top et j'ai pu, durant mon passage, rencontrer des personnes justes formidables. Donc je recommande ;)

Absolute sweethearts. We loved them from the first day and had a great time together (too short). Carla and East both have a very chilled and balanced energy, they make you feel comfortable when they are around. Interesting conversations, funny stories, great music and film taste, good social skills, tasty cooking, loving animal care, creative energy, independent thinking. Hope to see you here again! Thanks

The first thing that struck me about Monty was his height, his photo does not suggest he is over 2m! He came in his van and some useful tools and proceeded to work amazingly well, with great proficiency and speed. In 14 years on this site no one has done a better job for me. He was only here 4 days as he had a greater timely need elsewhere. He has said he will be back, well I really hope so as I have a lovely little project which I am sure he can do for me. A very interesting person, lovely human being, I can not recommend Monty highly enough.

Lele and Bonke were a great addition to the team and were very helpful, interested and easygoing throughout their whole stay. They cared for the animals with much dedication. They are social people who connect easily. Independent, mindful, curious and solidaric. Thank you for your help!

Where do we even begin! Anna and Ron have been an amazing part of our farm for two months! They are very hard workers and with out them we would not have gotten everything done around the farm before winter! They are amazing people that truly became our good friends, we already miss them dearly and wish them all the best on their next adventure out west!

Having Róza stay with us was such a wonderful experience! She helped a lot in the garden and with organizing a party — everything went perfectly thanks to her great energy and creativity. She has amazing communication skills and sings beautifully! The kids loved her — she played games, spent time with everyone, and brought such a positive vibe to our home. She’s also great with animals and showed them so much love. I totally recommend her to any host and really hope to see her again someday! 🌸

With my partner Sarah, we planned to stay 2 weeks - in the end it was almost a month! From the first moment, we felt a special connection to Ildico and enjoyed every single moment of our stay with her, Mocca and Ace. We were living quite independently in the wooden cabin, but got to spend some nice moments with Ildi during the day, and the common dinners around interesting and stimulating discussions were a must! Although she's a bit humble about it, Ildico is a great cook and we never went hungry! I especially enjoyed that things were always clear, boundaries set in a very healthy way and honesty valorised. Work on the land was diverse and we could always chose from a long list that had to be done. So all in all it was an excellent workaway experience and after these 4 weeks, I had the impression to say goodbye to a friend. (Or even to 2 friends, as I felt a special connection with Mocca, too) I can only recommend this experience to everybody who likes amazing company (but is also capable of being alone and independent), and loves to be surrounded by nature, shaped by Ildicos's ideas and knowledge!

I agreed with Maeve and Sophia to come for just a week if they were happy to give my house a deep clean. They did a great job for me and also weeded a flower border very well. Very polite, quiet and calm, they were very understanding to my situation as I had a bad cold and needed to spend time in bed. It was great that they were able to work unsupervised and did everything that was asked of them. We had a nice day to go mushroom picking and I was able to show them some of what is to be seen around the area which they seemed to enjoy. For me it was a very full and useful exchange, thanks for coming!

Leah has been a fabulous person to have helping us at the sanctuary. She is hardworking and happy to get stuck into any task and will complete them to a high standard. Leah is a very positive and friendly person to have around. Leah was very respectful to the rescued monkeys in our care and very empathetic towards our charity's mission. Overall a lovely person to have had around. Thank you, Leah!

Spending a month here has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. For the people I had the chance to talk to, the other volunteers and guests with whom I shared unforgettable moments, and the wonderful connections I built with the amazing people I met. JBay is an exceptional place, and the hostel is a gem that makes it even more special. So, a huge thank you to Kiera, Daryn, and Jason, not only for giving me the opportunity to be part of this experience, but also for making me feel at home. I highly recommend anyone who wants to spend some truly enjoyable moments to visit Jeffreys Bay and especially this hostel. Thank you from the bottom of my heart; I will never forget this experience.

Abhi was a fantastic yoga student. We had an amazing pilot yoga retreat with 2 other workaway girls. Abhis input was amazing bringing us not only gender balance but an amazing helper and curiously very talented student. Felt also amazing to have a person with Indian roots among us practicing Yoga. Abhi stayed after our magical retreat and was a great help with various tasks. Thank youuu Abhi and enjoy all your adventures that life awaits you.

What a pleasure it was to host Karin! She totally embraced her Drakensberg experience and was appreciated by staff and guests. Karin was flexible and happy to take on diversely different tasks, all of which she carried out well. We look forward to seeing her in Africa again!
