Emilie was an absolute pleasure to host and work alongside. She quickly proved herself to be capable, adaptable, and eager to learn—helping Craig pave a footpath with determination and grace. Her sophistication and thoughtful approach to tasks made her a standout guest and helper. Friendly and easy to talk to, Emilie’s English is very good, which made communication smooth and enjoyable throughout her stay. She also helped Craig to improve his French, was always ready to start work early and brought great energy to each day. Strong, fit, and hardworking, she tackled physical tasks with enthusiasm, dedication, and reliability. One morning, she really enjoyed a challenging hike with Craig up the hill through the bush on our property. Emilie stayed with us for six days, and we genuinely wished she could have stayed longer as her presence was uplifting—she’s spiritual, respectful, grateful, fair, youthful, and deeply curious about the world. As a self-employed freelance copywriter and digital communication consultant in France, she brings a unique perspective and a keen interest in hiking and nature, which made for many engaging conversations. We wholeheartedly recommend Emilie to any future hosts. She’s a gem, and we wish her safe travels and every success in her quest to find meaningful work in Australia.

We had a great time at Johanna and Benjamin’s place. Their project is exciting, and the work was enjoyable, both in terms of the tasks and the pace. We only stayed for a week because we had to continue our trip, but we could have easily stayed longer to explore more of this wonderful region. For surfers, it’s paradise! 🌊 We also loved spending time with the other volunteers! 😜 Can’t wait to see how the project progresses!

english: wow! we spent an incredible 12 days in Puerto Rio Tranquilo with Carina, Ananda and all their lovely animals. Carina was so kind to us welcoming us into her home and we had so much fun with her. it was our first Workaway and we couldn't have asked for a more immersive experience. we ate all our meals together, met Carina's friends and family, danced and played board games, and loved getting to know Puerto Rio Tranquilo. carina was the kindest and most generous host and it was such a pleasure to learn about Chile and Patagonia from her. she was very patient with our rubbish Spanish and we got to practice loads of Spanish. the work was fun, with lots of digging, clearing the campsite and helping to fix a greenhouse! thank you so much Carina!!!

Dorka and Enikő were a great help with the renovation of my irrigation system and the sanding of wooden beams. They are both very pleasant to be around, reliable, and able to work independently. The collaboration was smooth and productive. Unfortunately, they could only stay for one week as we had agreed beforehand, but they managed to accomplish a lot in that short time. Thank you both for your great support!

I got to spend 5 weeks this autumn at Sophia’s farm, and it was a truly fulfilling experience! as I had no previous knowledge on working with horses, helping with them was challenging and I couldn’t master it to the desired level. still, Sophia found other tasks for me, and we managed to make it work for both of us. by the way, working with ponies if satisfying and approachable even with no experience! spending time surrounded by nature, connecting with animals, being able to watch sunsets in a field, and collect wild berries on a stroll was a pure joy. on sunny days, Sophia would take me and other volunteer to the lake. also Sophia was kind enough to borrow me the things I needed for personal use, such as a yoga mate and even a swimsuit. i truly believe that living in a countryside and working outdoors is a thing everyone should try. at the end of the day, everything feels far more real and rewarding here. the whole experience may seem somewhat harsh but absolutely worth it. I’m grateful to Sophia for sharing her knowledge, her presence, and her place, and for letting me take care of her animals. this will be something I’ll remember forever. wish you all the best!

This was such a fantastic first Workaway experience for me—one I’ll definitely remember! Waking up each morning to feed the animals—goats, chickens, horses, dogs, and cats—was such a sweet routine (I miss them so much!). Wayne and Julia made me feel so at home; they treated me like a real family member, not just a volunteer. Every Workawayer gets their own room (we shared a bathroom), and I loved cooking and sharing meals with the other volunteers. I’m also really glad I got to give pedicures to the two sweet horses and 12 goats! It felt like such a special, hands-on way to connect with the farm. All in all, if you’re looking for a unique, warm farm experience, Wayne and Julia’s place is the absolute best.

Keiji helped with my projects for one week. We enjoyed each others company, learned together, and exchanged cultures. Keiji is open to learn everything. He never gave up on tasks that required his strenght and patience, especially in the potato garden aswell as other tasks. We had a small discussion at one point due to cultural differences. This turned out to be a useful moment where we both learned an important lesson. After this, I believe we understood each other much more. Understanding that communication, experience and expectations is different between our cultures. I will truly recommend Keiji. He is such a loyal, caring and reflected person with great human-skills, which i would say is over average! His style and culture is highly formal and respectful. To fully fit in on my farm, he would need more experience with household-related tasks such as farming but with his self-insight I think any challenge on his path can be solved. I believe our cultural differences made us become even better friends. This is what Workaway is all about!

I stayed with Rosanna and Maya for one month in September, and from the very first day they welcomed me with open arms. Rosanna is a strong, open-minded, and kind-hearted woman always willing to communicate, improve, and find compromise with her au pair. She is a bright, young, and positive woman, open to dialogue, full of energy and joy. Living with her was not just about childcare , she doesn’t treat you as a babysitter, but as part of her world. A genuine human connection is created, which of course also depends on how you approach the experience and what you are looking for. The work schedule was exactly as agreed, and always flexible when discussed in advance. If she occasionally asked me to stay overnight, we always talked and organized it together in a fair way. The house is beautiful, bright, and welcoming, a place where you immediately feel at home. I went there without expectations and found a family I truly became part of. I felt listened to, appreciated, and included ; they were an essential part of my personal growth and of my journey in Palma. Rosanna is a woman who can teach you so much as a host, as a mother, and as a woman. She taught me lessons that I’ll carry with me forever; this experience has been a precious piece of my life path. Maya is a sweet and intelligent child, a little shy at first, but once you reach her heart with love, patience, and authenticity she opens up in the most beautiful way. I became like an older sister to her, and putting real effort and heart into it, it’s beautiful to see how you can influence her education and growth in such a positive way. I know I’ve built a bond that will stay with me forever. Even after leaving, I’ve already been back to see them. I’ve built a life here in Palma, and I know that Rosanna and Maya will always be part of it🌞❤️

This is a very nice place for a workaway! The location is beautiful, there are some great things to do on your time off, for example going to Wicklow town (there are some really nice cliffs there) or walking at the Glendalough hills. Clothilde and her family are really nice people, I felt very much at home in their warm and beautiful house. I did some gardening, cooking, some cleaning and helped with things such as drying apples and organizing honey pots. I cleaned the polytunnel which was a very satisfying job to do :) I would definitely recommend staying here! You need to love your own company though because most of the time you will be working alone. But the cats will come and say hello :) Thank you Clothilde !

Dommo spent two weeks with us at Rocha do Urso, and honestly, he hit the ground running (sometimes literally). From the moment he arrived, his bottomless curiosity and hunger to learn made him stand out. He’s one of those rare humans who asks why and then actually goes and finds out. He threw himself into everything — from diving headfirst (almost) into the well to haul out buckets of slimy mud, to wrangling wheelbarrows, picking cactus fruit without flinching, prepping grapes for wine, and clearing the vineyard for winter. Whatever the task, he tackled it with energy, humour, and a grin that said, “let’s do this.” Dommo didn’t just work hard — he lived the experience. He made friends easily, jumped into social gatherings like he’d known everyone for years, and left behind a few stories we’ll be laughing about for a while. We’d absolutely have him back anytime — no hesitation. Rocha do Urso will always have a spot for him (and maybe a slightly cleaner well because of him).

Daria is very social and attentive and also quite funny most of the time!! She really has a super sense of humour and a smart vision of how situations can change. I find her quite relaxed when facing difficult tasks or challenges but having a good amount of energy and strength to deal with it! What i found really remarkable though is her capacity for self reflection and self awareness, this makes her a highly effective teammate, always ready to improve! Also she’s really motivated for any kind of physical activity which I really appreciated and she usually wanted to work more than i requested 💪🏾 Thank you Daria for sharing happy and productive days, and for making me laugh so many times! 🌻🐾🐾🌸✊🏾

Our two weeks with Diego was great! The property is in a very chill spot with the beach not too far away. We slept in his sail boat and helped with cooking in Diegos house. We had some great chats over food as well as during our work. He introduced us to his family and some friends and got to experience some authentic Uruguayan moments with them ❤️ The work was fun and satisfying and the progress was really cool to see. Diego is very happy to talk through the whole construction, as well as the construction of his little house too. We would definitely recommend Diegos place 😊

Yes, yes, yes to Alice! We loved having Alice stay with us for a couple of weeks in October 2025. She helped with all sorts of jobs, looked after the property and animals by herself for a weekend while we were away and she was just so lovely to hang out with while getting things done. Alice traveled extensively, is very confident, calm and at the same time bubbly personality. She did everything from mowing, using the weed eater, cleaning windows and the house, transplanting tiny seedlings, watering plants, looking after the chickens and the cat, helping with kitchen clean up after meals to cuddling our very smoochy cat. She probably did many more things that I forgot. If you have the opportunity for Alice to stay with you, take her in. Best of luck Alice, stay in touch. Patricia

I stayed here for just one week, but it was an absolutely wonderful experience. Adrian is very kind, patient, and flexible with time. He taught me a lot about Norwegian culture and history. The beautiful countryside in Norway where he lives is amazing, and the new house under construction is truly impressive. I also had the chance to spend time with his father, which was a great experience. Even though I didn’t have much experience in many of the tasks, He always showed me examples first and explained everything clearly. Of course, one week is a short time, and sometimes cultural differences made things a little challenging — but I think we shared and learned from those differences together. I truly learned a lot during my stay. Thank you so much! Adrian always made time for me, even when he was busy, and supported me until the very end. I’ll always treasure the connection and lessons I gained here. 💬 To future Asian Workawayers (especially from Japan): Our culture is very different from European culture. In Japan, we often apologize first and then reflect on what happened. But in Europe, constant apologies can sometimes be seen as laziness or avoiding responsibility. Instead, people value reflection, learning, and taking action. So remember — when we say “sorry,” it doesn’t always mean the same as sumimasen in Japan. Adrian is very open-minded and interested in learning about Japanese and other cultures. But please, don’t rely too much on that kindness — when you go to another country, take time to learn and respect that country’s culture and values.

We spent a little over two weeks at Jeroen and Dirkje’s for our very first Workaway with Juliette, and we couldn’t have asked for a better start ! We definitely set the bar very, very high for our first experience ! They welcomed us into their beautiful garden, a true oasis of biodiversity with an impressive edible forest. The bungalow was amazing: we slept really well (well, except when Juliette took all the duvet, but that’s another story 😄). Our work mainly involved clearing the riverbanks and working on a hedge, and we were right on the front line facing the bramble, it was hard work, but very rewarding, and the tools and conditions were excellent. We worked in the mornings and spent the rest of the day exploring the surroundings: swimming just steps away from the house, visiting Amsterdam, Hoorn, and other incredible places. Life at their place is always lively: so many wonderful encounters, never a dull moment, and the meals prepared by Dirkje were fantastic. We also got to try some Dutch specialties, like raw herring. Jeroen and Dirkje are amazing hosts, passionate about ecology and climate action, with a genuine desire to make a difference. Their hospitality, openness, and the beauty of the place make this experience unforgettable. We can’t recommend this Workaway enough !
