John is a wonderful host!!😆 I stayed at his house over the winter, and he was always kind and considerate to all his guests. If you're visiting New Zealand for the first time and feeling a little nervous, I highly recommend staying at his house. He provides excellent support in all aspects of daily life. My main job was helping him make donuts and cookies. His donuts and cookies are so delicious, I love them so much I could eat them every day. If you have experience or an interest in baking, you would definitely be a great help to him😊 Thank you so much John, for letting me stay at your home for so long. I’m truly grateful for your kindness and hospitality.

I stayed with Billy for two weeks and felt so comfortable the whole time! His house is located outside of Cairns, surrounded by rainforest, but still not too far away. There’s always so much to see and hear – lots of wildlife and beautiful nature all around. Billy is super kind and easy-going. He gave me some lifts to the bus stop or in the city when I needed them, recommended great places to visit, and always had some really interesting stories to tell, which I really enjoyed. I totally fell in love with his two dogs, Pickles and Keeper. They have so much personality and are so much fun to be around! While I was there, it rained quite a lot, so we couldn’t do too much outdoor work. I mainly helped with cleaning, which was never too hard, and I still had plenty of time to explore the area. There’s honestly so much to see – two weeks were not enough! On days off, you can even stay in the Daintree or the Tablelands. I can absolutely recommend staying with Billy, especially as a solo female traveler – I always felt safe and welcome. Thanks so much for everything, Billy!

She really wants to learn things ,but her lack of practical experience is letting her down. Does everything the best she can.

Big thank you for making my first workaway experience so wholesome and memorable. I enjoyed living on your beautiful property for a week and am grateful to experience a unique version of the Polish lifestyle. We predominantly worked on building a firewood shelter before the winter comes, this was very rewarding to assist with and I hope that it serves you well. I recommend helping Adam to any other workawayers. Wishing you and the family all the best, cheers!

Although my stay was less than a week, they welcomed me with such warmth and kindness. It was my first time visiting France, and they not only taught me about French cuisine and local ingredients but also served me wonderful dishes. Before dinner, we had wine and snacks, ate oysters, and enjoyed authentic European cheeses and French bread. They showed me historical buildings and the Seine River, even taking the time to guide me around personally. Every evening, they invited me to join their family time, and I truly felt like part of their family. One of my best memories was going mushroom picking together — it was my first time ever doing that. When we went out together, they would casually stop by a bakery, grab some baguettes or croissants, and eat them in the car on the way home. That kind of everyday French lifestyle felt so refreshing and special to me. And of course, they always shared the bread with me. I never felt like an outsider. Despite my short stay and the nature of the Workaway system — where a stranger suddenly joins a family — I didn’t feel any sense of distance at all. Everyone looked me in the eyes when we talked, and we had so many good conversations. It was really fun. Their English was also surprisingly clear and easy to understand, with almost no French accent. Life there was very free and relaxed. There were no strict instructions like “wake up at this time” or “clean for this many hours.” I could enjoy living in a foreign country at my own pace. I also had the chance to meet their daughter during my stay. she was so kind, gentle, and calm. I still remember cooking together with her. (Off topic, Her hair was especially pretty. I remember thinking I’d love to have curly hair like hers...) Their son was full of energy, surrounded by toys, and I could really feel how loved he was. The whole family was warm and caring, and their home was filled with love. I cooked some Japanese dishes like a mochi(not real one, when you guys come to japan plz eat properly one ok? let me know when you come,I’ll tell you which mochi from the local supermarkets is the best.), oyakodon, and salad with Japanese seasoning, and they were very happy with them. If I ever visit France again, I’d love to let them know. And for anyone considering Workaway, I would absolutely recommend this family. Since about three days ago, the weather and temperature in Japan have finally become similar to how it was when I stayed at Anna’s home. It made me feel nostalgic and miss them..

Asa is very friendly and helpful. She sees what needs to be done and pitches in, no matter what the task. We made juice together, she stripped a cupboard, mended clothes and also painted with the children. We attended a linocut printing workshop together, which was great. Asa's journey, her search for opportunities for communal living, impresses and inspires us. We are grateful that we could be part of her project. Otonari san. Neighbours. Thank you for that. We were able to communicate well, even if we had to look up English vocabulary again and again. Dear Asa, it was so nice to have you with us.

Coline brought a wonderful lightness and joy to our days here. She has a naturally positive presence — always smiling, attentive, and ready to help without hesitation. Behind her cheerful energy there is a solid sense of responsibility: she quietly observes, understands what needs to be done, and does it with care and consistency. She adapted beautifully to life in the countryside and to every small challenge of daily tasks, showing genuine curiosity and the wish to learn. Working with her was easy and pleasant; living with her even more so. Thank you, Coline, for the warmth, laughter and reliability you shared — you’ll always be welcome back here 🌿

I stayed with Cuneyt, Betul and Umay (and of course Minyon the cat) for 4 weeks. They picked me up from the bus station and were very kind and I immediately felt like part of the family. My tasks were to speak English with Umay (she already speaks very well) and play with her after school, and do some light housework. I vacuum cleaned the apartment several times a week, and mopped once or twice a week. And every day after dinner I cleaned the kitchen and put the plates in the dishwasher so that the family could relax together. We had a delicious home cooked meal together every day (thank you Betul!) and I cooked once or twice as well. There was no stress or pressure and I had a lot of time for myself during the day to explore and do all the things I needed to do. I had my own room with a desk, and a comfortable couch to sleep on and a balcony. I had access to the whole apartment and all the food in the kitchen. I had a lot of fun playing with Umay and talking to Betul and joining the family in activities. They are lovely people and have a beautiful family. These workaway experiences where you can be part of the family and have a real cultural exchange are the ones I am always looking for. Thank you!

First and foremost, Manuel helped move a major and critical renovation project forward for us, which was hugely appreciated. His woodwork and building skills were solid, plus he came up with a couple of design ideas to add character to the space we were building - satisfying both requirements we had! Otherwise, Manuel got along very well with others in the house, took feedback well, and kept the morale up. We appreciate his time and wish him the very best.

Not only was she willing to take on the little things to keep the house from falling into disrepair, but Tash/Tasha/Natasha/Auntie Tashie/Tosche Station brought a great energy to the house and encouraged people to get out and explore the world around the Den - something we want people to self-organize and seek out. This was a huge win for keeping up the morale amongst the other Workawayers, and I'm super-grateful she took that off my hands. She also encouraged me to take some time away from all the plodding and working myself and be more present with the team, which helped me relax just a bit! Having a good driver in the house was always a big help! Wishing her all the good things and hoping her travels are good to her.

Jenny and Freddy are simply the best host you can meet on your way. It was my first experience as a workawayer and it was absolutely perfect. The work was fine and I was never put in discomfort with doing something that didn’t make me feel comfortable. I mowed the grass in the entire garden, harvested olives and also helped with some simple de-plastering work. The hours are flexible. Jenny had care of me as a son. She’s really caregiving and a stunning chef, always checking if I was ok or if I needed something. It was totally fine to work in the garden under Freddy’s indications: you will be impressed by his manual skills and his kindness and good sense of humour! They were so kind in taking me to see the places around, we went to the lakes around el Chorro and on a beautiful viewpoint on top of a mountain. We also went eating an ice cream together in Álora. As I told them, I was really grateful for this because I struggled a little to go around by myself, as the trains and buses are not so frequent. It is a rural zone, but believe me it is one of the most beautiful valleys I’ve seen in my life, especially when the sun is setting and everything gets orangey. The balance between work and free time was perfect as I could finish some work I had to do in my laptop (good wi-fi!). So, it’s been a real pleasure for me to meet you, Jenny and Freddy, I’ll keep the memories about you and your sweet place forever with me! Waiting to see each other again, maybe in Italy who knows, I wish you all the best to you and your daughters. P.s.: Jolly was the best friend to have while working in the nature! Give them a hug by me :)

Our first workaway experience was incredible. Chain and Tassia, our hosts, are straight-up, hardworking, honest, and funny people. They made us feel very welcome and appreciated. We arrived at the tail end of rainy season, so we helped out to prepare for opening. Construction was underway for a new sundeck area. Tasks were independent, encouraging creativity and freedom. We did gardening, painting, and brushed the (cute) cats. I loved spending time in the garden and could’ve stayed longer. Tasia and Chain have an amazing variety of plants in their garden. Tasia showed us the plants, their names, and flavours she uses to cook with. The food was delicious and healthy. The roast chicken was the best I’ve ever had. We were encouraged to explore the islands’ beauty and go surfing and watch the sunset in the evenings which was always a highlight of the day. The bungalow had basic necessities such as pillows and a mosquito net, but nothing more. It was refreshing to live close to nature and be woken up by the birds and wildlife daily. I’ll miss it. Thanks, Tasia and Chain. We hope to return. Good luck with the busy season ahead.

I truly enjoyed the time we spent together, Laura. Our deep conversations were such a joy the best part was how we could genuinely understand each other and create real value through our talks. As two people who seek what is good and beautiful, we tried to share that beauty with one another. We had philosophical discussions, and sometimes we played and laughed like two children. You showed me yoga movements, and we practiced them together. We practiced English and it was very useful for the development of my speaking. We walked around my city, cooked meals side by side, and tried to shed light on the hidden and darker parts of ourselves. We became friends honest and mindful companions. You are hardworking, thoughtful, and full of heart. This world needs more people like you those who work with passion and live with kindness. We are the beautiful ones, and we will keep growing in number. Thank you, my friend. I’m truly happy to have met you. I hope we create beautiful things together one day. Wishing you peace, joy, and light on your new journeys ahead. Con cariño y gratitud 🌺 Hasan

Working with Marlene was amazing and we gonna miss her here. She's a great person with a lot of volunteering experience. She knows the hostel culture and everything went super smooth from day 1. She exceled in all the task she had to do: cleaning, interacting with the guests, helping at the reception, you name it. She's definitely entering our "Volunteer Hall of Fame" :) As we like to say, we envy her next hosts! Marlene will always have a bed here and we wish her many great journeys and good hosts :)

We're very thankful to Adam for the four weeks he spent with us in Kazakhstan! Adam was easy to host and lot's of fun to have around and share everyday experiences like going out, cooking, talking. Adam is not new to the teaching profession, and all our students at the language school have greatly enjoyed lessons with Adam which he enriched with his musical skills.
