Roger spent almost 1 month with us in Goldschau and we were sad when he left. He is a really handsome, respectful and uncomplicated person,so we felt totally comfortable to host him in our home. As he is interested in different topics and knows a lot about p.ex. history and politics we had some intersting conversations. His english is also pretty good. He helped us a lot with our projects (mainly construction works) and did the different works properly and with joy. We wish him all the best for his bussiness project & travels and he is always welcome to visit us again!

Sujin is such a wonderful person ! Our shared love of sunrises and currys ! To hang out with and to work with-she is the best. As a bonus she gave my puppy Evee much needed motherly energy. Which included giving her a hair cut. Sujin would see what needed to be done (like Evees haircut) and just do it. I really appreciated how she was making everything better around here. Evee and I are hoping Sujin will find her way back here some day

I’ve written many positive reviews before, but this has probably been my favorite experience on Workaway so far. Life here is very close to nature — don’t expect luxury, but rather simplicity and peace. I stayed in a tent during autumn, and even though the nights were chilly, I slept surprisingly well. The house runs on solar energy, and David built the battery himself. He’s a calm, strong and creative person who can build almost anything. Miriam is a wonderful host who speaks several languages, including a bit of Portuguese, and she cooks delicious vegetarian meals. They’re both clever, open-minded, tolerant, and have fascinating stories to share. There’s always something to do, but the atmosphere remains relaxed and friendly. Their children are kind, fun, and full of life. A truly peaceful and inspiring place to stay.

I spent a little more than a week with Radu, and it truly was a great experience. Radu is an incredible host, very caring, always making sure that you're feeling well and have everything you need. He took me to the nearby city of Brașov for a day trip, we went to a barbecue with his neighbours, played some music and some board games. The other long-term volunteer, Philipp, is also really nice, and we had good times the three of us. Thank you Radu, I hope we meet again and I wish you all the best for your project !

We volunteered with Conny for over four weeks and really enjoyed our experience. During this time, we helped her relocate from Weligama to Balapitiya — a huge but rewarding effort. Daily tasks included walking and feeding the dogs, cleaning the cat house, topping up food and water, and mopping a few shelters. The work took around 2 hours in the morning and 2–3 in the evening, and felt fair for what was provided. In return, we had our own private room with a fan, breakfast (make yourself), shared kitchen and bathroom facilities, and use of a scooter. We spent our free time exploring nearby surf towns and the local area. The animals are lovely and full of personality, but you need to be confident managing them and comfortable working in sometimes messy conditions. By the end, we’d built real bonds with the animals and enjoyed getting to know Conny and the other volunteers.

I had a lovely day at Soy & Bee's place. Initially I asked to stay two days and nights there and I wanted to spend my brithday at their lovely ger-home on the countryside in their warm company. As they were already having guests, I was invited to visit during the day and spend my birthday at their home. It was such a warm welcome. I learnt about Mongolian culture, life in a ger, meaning of nomadic lifestyle. I got to taste some traditional foods and homemade milk products, learnt how to prepare rolled dumplings for the "special occasion", was shown knuckle bone games and songs were sung to complete the celebration day. Thank you so much for inviting me! The Mongolian-Chinese-Austrian mix was delightful and fun. Although I had to return to UB before having the chance to participate in hand-milking the cows, my visit felt complete in that one day. It was an inspiring visit. Special thanks for the conversation related to my profession, Soy!

Hello there! I initially came for a week, but I ended up staying for a whole month! My experience with Can, Demet, and Arven has been absolutely wonderful from the very beginning. They welcomed me like a member of their family from day one, making me feel incredibly comfortable throughout my stay. They are such an open-minded and easygoing family, and I truly appreciated how I could talk to them about anything; they were always delighted to engage in conversation. Every time they went out, they kindly invited me to join them, and we even went camping with their friends, where everyone was so warm and welcoming to me! The house is conveniently located near the park, hospital, and sea. You will have your own room, and there’s a living room for work and study during your free time. The house is tidy and has a relaxed atmosphere. Demet cooks the best Turkish food I've ever tried, and Can is passionate about technology and camping, making them great conversation partners. They have also helped me learn Turkish and are always eager to assist. About the job, you will spend the mornings with Arven before she goes to school. She usually wakes up at 9 AM, but this can vary. The main focus is to converse with Arven in English as much as possible, allowing her to learn and practice what she knows and what she is learning at school. She may be shy at times, but if she struggles to express herself in English, she will use a translator. You should also prepare her breakfast and play games until she is ready for school. If she is moody, you can talk to Can and Demet, who will resolve it quickly, as they speak English and communication is easy. When Arven gets ready for school, I vacuum the house and keep it clean. They won't ask you to clean, but you should help as a family member by keeping your room and common areas tidy. It's easy, no worries. Thank you to this wonderful family! I'm grateful to have met Can, Demet, and Arven, and I highly recommend them to any volunteer. I hope to see you again and wish you all the best! Alan :)

I stayed with Bob in 2025 for a month in June and September. When I lived in Toronto, I was very happy when he approached me on Workaway to stay in his vacant apartment so I could finish my work as a PSW for my client Bill William Angus. I would describe this time as tough, cold, and desperate, but Bob has been my guardian angel ever since. That's when I learned that Bob is full of surprises and without hesitation curled his fingers for me to help me be in a better situation and was showing heavy interest in my well-being, which you would not expect from a stranger. I am pleased to say that Bob is not a stranger to me anymore; he is a father, a brother, and a mentor for me, and I'm thanking myself for having kept in touch with him. Besides my work as a PSW in Toronto, I looked after his property and did some yard work and shovelled the paths and driveways in the winter. On our way to the cottage in June 2025, I was blown away by how isolated and unspoiled his place is. He is taking care of a big property that includes the cottage, the barn, the boathouse, and his two rental cottages. The daily routine of doing things can vary in big obstacles but is nothing to worry about. I helped Bob with many diverse jobs that we did, from plumbing to helping with the rental business and/orcomputer stuff; you'll definitely find something that you will like. Other than the usual tasks like doing the dishes and prepping food, I was very happy with the work environment. Another thing I would like to mention is that Bob taught me how to swim, and I really hated swimming when I first came to the lake because it was also embarrassing for me when a 79-year-old was already back to the starting point while I wasn't even halfwaythere. And I have to say that since then, I've always seen it as a competition to be as good at swimming as Bob, and when I look back now, I realize how much I love swimming now and how much I've gotten better. Thank you, Bob, for taking care of my health. I feel much healthier now. So go ahead and just do it. Believe me, I would want to speak for many others in my age group: go and let the comfort settle in you will not be disappointedby the end of your visit. Love you very much, bro. Jeremy

Lies and I were thrilled to spend a short but incredibly sweet couple of days with Astrid and Erik on their beautiful renovated farm in Galmaarden. This was our first Workaway experience, and they set the bar wonderfully high! Astrid and Erik are such warm, kind, and generous hosts who truly went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. We particularly enjoyed hearing about their inspiring, spiritually oriented life and their commitment to organic living. Astrid's knowledge of natural healing and their holistic approach to food production is fascinating. And Erik with his engineer background is very knowledgeable about construction, renovation and all things machinery. The work was varied, enjoyable, and perfectly suited for our short stay. We focused on general cleanup of the garden, including hedge trimming and shredding and compost pile construction, which was a productive way to spend the day. A huge highlight of our stay was the wonderful food cooked by Astrid and the conversations during the meals; every meal was delicious, healthy, and made with so much care. Their vegetable garden is something we would have loved to dig in too, but it wasn't the time of year. It was a very relaxing few days in the beautiful Belgian countryside, and their two adorable cats, Floris and Fien, were excellent company! Even though our time was brief, it was a fantastic introduction to Workaway as a volunteer. We couldn't have asked for better hosts to start our journey. Highly recommended and maybe we will be back for the next hedge trimming ;-)

Marisol was an amazing volunteer to host at our Buddhist Center. She was clear and communicative from the beginning, flexible and easy to adjust to all type of situations, and, most importantly, she was very eager to help in any area that needed a hand. Her voluntariness was impressive. She's also a very mature person for her age, which was also a positive surprise. Would totally recommend hosting Marisol :)

I want to express my sincere gratitude to Sara and Lukasz for their hospitality, kindness, and generosity, and for welcoming me together with my son. We spent three wonderful weeks here. There wasn’t much work to do. The room was excellent, and there was always plenty of food. It’s a beautiful place in the mountains, surrounded by forest. On weekends, interesting people came for yoga practices, which made the atmosphere even more special. Special thanks to Sławek, Paulina and Dana. I’m happy to recommend this place and these amazing people to all volunteers!

My experience with Irfan, Sinem, and Ruzgar was truly beautiful. They have a lovely and very affectionate family who made my stay feel like home. I truly appreciated all their care and attention. The work is incredibly organic and organized, which makes it much easier to understand the process you're involved in—nothing less than accompanying a seed through its life cycle until it becomes a fruit! It's truly wonderful. Irfan shares a wealth of knowledge about pelmaculture, which is invaluable. The food was fantastic! Abundant and delicious. The house is incredibly comfortable, with many amenities, and all the facilities work perfectly. Communication during our time together was excellent. Everything was truly beautiful. It was a real pleasure for me to do this volunteer work, to be involved in these kinds of projects connected to the land and to producing more consciously. I also enjoyed the diverse tourist attractions of Cyprus and learned more about its history. I highly recommend this experience and hope to see you all again! Thank you so much for everything! Juli

Participating in the olive harvest with Germana and Guiseppe was the highlight of our trip to Italy!! They’re the most lovely, welcoming, and generous family, and we felt so fortunate to spend two weeks with them! We spent the weekends in Palermo, where three of us volunteers shared a beautiful flat. Germana often hosts dinner parties with friends - a great experience to meet people, eat delicious food, and learn about Sicilian culture. Us three shared a bedroom in Mistretta when working as well. The work of harvesting olives was physical, but not too challenging, and was very communal and rewarding!! We worked for 5 hours per day, moderating our own break times. We ate meals all together. Lots of yummy bread, olive oil, pasta, and salad! After work, we often took an aperitivo to the beach! The water is only 20 meters from the olive grove, and was a lovely place to go swimming. Then, we’d either drive the 45 minutes back up to Mistretta, where the villa is, or we’d go to the olive press. The olive press was a fantastic cultural experience! We got to see the process of how the olive oil was made from start to finish, and meet local Sicilians who were eager to teach us. The nights we spent at the olive press were sometimes long, but hard to avoid because of the unpredictable wait-times and press logistics. Germana had also talked about potentially hosting volunteers down at the grove next year. That would be even better than commuting to the villa in Mistretta, because it would leave volunteers with more free-time at the end of the day! This Workaway would be perfect for someone who likes to do physical work outdoors, who’s flexible with timings, and who would like to be immersed in local Sicilian culture! We learned so much, and created some really beautiful, lasting friendships with everyone we met. Thank you Germana and Beppe for sharing your home and a slice of your life with us!! Miss you already!!

I spent just under a month with Marjana and Cornelia in the beautiful Lake Bled! Marjana and Neli are welcoming, open and very kind people who immerse you in their culture and daily life with enthusiasm - there was never a dull conversation, and lots and lots of laughs. I lived well, ate well and thoroughly enjoyed my time sharing space with them both. This WorkAway opportunity was absolutely brilliant as it is not only situated in a very accessible and well connected part of Slovenia, but you also get to fully immerse yourself in Slovenian culture. The work in itself was very manageable; light cleaning jobs, and small household decluttering projects - such as sorting out a walk in closet, organising photo frames, and making a cosy cinema room - which I got to enjoy with Neli. You also help out with cooking and share you meals together, chatting and exchanging more about culture. What set Marjanas home apart was her enthusiasm in introducing me to her friends and family, and showing me around small villages and towns in Slovenia that aren't usually advertised to tourists. This helped me pick up a little bit of the language, and learn about the country from people who live it. Marjana was also very generous in sharing her practices and knowledge of soul coaching and meditation, engaging in good conversations about spirituality and healing - fascinating, and useful! Overall, my experience at Bled was fantastic and allowed me to experience Slovenia and get to know my hosts properly in a homely setting. Thank you Marjana and Neli, and I hope to see you both so so soon! ⭐️

Dante brought great energy and good humor to the house. He’s very easygoing, flexible, and a real pleasure to have around. He got along wonderfully with everyone in the village, thanks to his great communication skills. We worked together both around the house and at the local festival in July, and he adapted perfectly to all kinds of tasks — weeding the yard, restoring and installing an old wooden door, sanding, painting, helping out at the festival… He also cooks amazing Mexican carnitas and all the kids in the village loved his tacos! It was truly a pleasure having him in Torralba.

Germana and Giuseppe were the most amazing hosts! I spent just over two weeks with them and wish I could have stayed longer!! They immediately welcomed myself and the other volunteers into their family, introducing us to their friends and the community. The olive harvest was an incredible cultural experience, the work was physical but calm, and we spent most days listening to music and chatting as we worked. We ate great food, adventured to lots of cool places and learned so much about the process of small-scale olive harvesting. I'm so grateful to Germana, Giuseppe, their family and their friends for sharing this experience!
