Mo was a fab addition to our savary island team. He was very determined to learn new skills and perfect his craft. He built me a beautiful fence and always made sure he went out of his way to make it perfect. He is a very good listener and takes direction well. He is also very lovely of a human being - he has a beautiful outlook on life, he is very wise, calm and patient. He made us delicious food and always contributed to house duties. I hope he comes back! Thank you mo!

Mustafa and his family are truly wonderful and very kind people. We had a wonderful experience and wish we stayed longer than 10 days. The farm where we worked and stayed was remote, peaceful and rustic. We went to the farm with the hopes of harvesting walnuts but due to bad weather earlier in the year there were unfortunately no walnuts. We ended up harvesting rosehip in the fields surrounding the farmhouse which we used to make rosehip marmelade with Mustafa and his family which his family will sell. We thoroughly enjoyed this and connected with the whola family during the process. As well as this, we did other odd jobs such as setting up the irrigation system for walnut trees for next year, chopped some wood and few other small jobs around the farm. We had amazing breakfasts every morning with Mustafa and the family also cooked us some lovely meals. There is no electricity in the farm, however, the house is fuelled solely by solar energy which we really enjoyed and in the cold nights we warmed the house up with a fire which was extremely cosy. We are already looking forward to returning in the future and we highly recommend to anyone thinking to go and stay at Mustafa’s farm (Mustafarm 💙) as it was a truly special experience

Absolutely Amazing !!! It was a pleasure having Sophie with us at the Ranch. Dont let her age fool you, Sophie is wise beyond her years, a true team player and inspired leader. Always looking to help out around the house, even after the day was finished, you would find Sophie walking around, tiding bits here and there. Eager to take on any new task and help where needed. Didn't get to make a snowman or snow angel yet but hope there will be enough snow soon... She will be missed and we wish you all the best in your future travels

Sebastien was a fabulous addition to our team. He is quiet, kind, and very respectful. He is a very talented and experienced trades person - he redid my fireplace tile and backsplash tile in the kitchen. Both projects look amazing. I never had to worry about his experience level for the projects - he always knew what to do. Sebastien contributed to cleaning and cooking duties and always was reliable with his hours. He was a pleasure to be around - I hope to host him again! Thank you sebastien!

I spent about 3 weeks and had a nice experience. Highlights were definitely the time with the other Workawayers, walking dogs and petting donkeys. In the Workawayer house we could be 3 to 7 people at times, but that worked really well because everyone was very respectful and we had a lot of fun together. 😊 Some friendships were built in this house! The work at the refuge (8 a.m. to 1 p.m.) consists of feeding, changing water, cleaning stables and sorting through donations. Usually we had the employees show us our tasks so we could work pretty independently. The to do list is long and it's really nice that Sandra is easy to reach if you have questions. The whole team is kind and open towards Workawayers but during my stay there was some tension between the host and the staff, which affected the mood on some days. This might have just been a temporary situation though and doesn't really have to concern you, as it doesn't include the Workawayers directly. In general I enjoyed my time and learned a lot, thank you for that! Best of luck for the future 🍀

We spent three weeks volunteering at Amania’s finca. The place is beautiful, Amania is a kind and interesting person, and we shared some good moments together. However, the experience turned out to be quite different from what we expected. Amania has been hosting volunteers for about ten years, and it feels like what was once a pleasure has become more of a necessity over time. This sometimes shows in a certain rigidity or authority in her interactions with volunteers, which can take away from the warm, collaborative spirit that volunteering is usually about. At times, we felt more like employees than volunteers. We also felt there was a lack of appreciation for the time and effort volunteers freely give to help. The tasks themselves were not what we had anticipated. The coffee plantation is actually quite small, and we didn’t take part in it (not the right period). Most of our work consisted of painting her house and weeding the land. The horses are quite wild, so you won’t be able to ride them. The creative aspect of the volunteering is limited — we only took part in two workshop days during our stay. As for the accommodation, the Casita is located at the top of the property. To go to the city you need to call a taxi, it cost around 15$ each time which is costly on the long run. The shower water is rarely hot, but the space is large and comfortable. You’ll also work two days a week with Miguel, who is very friendly and interesting — one of the highlights of our experience.

Anne and Will stayed with us for over a week, and we couldn’t have asked for better guests. They were extremely respectful, hardworking, and went above and beyond our expectations in every task. They were also great company — easygoing, kind, and fun to have around. We shared a few lovely meals together. We’d welcome them back anytime and highly recommend them to other hosts!

I was very happy that finally I got someone who knows so much about electricity. He has hanged new light in my garage, made a light that I can put on under the stairs and put off when we are upstairs. He has made also a light in a dark corner so that I don't have to use anymore a flashlight. He has put an extractor hood above my cooking fire. And he has renewed my outdoor flashlight. Then he has helped me with cleaning the garden under my olive trees and helped me with the harvest of the olives by climbing in the high trees like a monkey and to cut the branches who were much to high. It was with regrets that I had to bring him back to the airport, because I could have used his help a little bit longer. I hope he will return one day, because I have still a lot of other projects to do. Steffen it was a pleasure to have you in my house

We spent a bit more than a month with Ania and Giuseppe, surrounded by nature, animals, and genuine connection. Every day brought something different: calm mornings with the animals, afternoons in the garden, shared meals, and peaceful moments on the land. We also spent time with Ania’s wonderful parents, whose warmth and humour made daily life even richer. Our stay included some emotional days as well. Two of the animals became seriously ill, and saying goodbye to Dara, the horse, touched us deeply. It was a hard moment, but it brought everyone closer together. We supported each other through it with care and love, like a family standing side by side. We helped care for the animals and garden and worked on small but meaningful projects around the land, such as building a new fence. What we appreciated most was the balance between meaningful contribution and personal freedom. “We flow” became the phrase that often came up, and it perfectly described the feeling of being there, a natural movement between work, rest, and inspiration. The nature surrounding the land is breathtaking, wild, peaceful, and grounding. It gave us time to reflect, to dream, and to see more clearly what truly matters to us. We’re deeply grateful to Ania and Giuseppe for opening their world to us. Their conscious and harmonious way of living inspired us to keep trusting our own path and to move through life with patience and heart. With much love to all of you, humans, animals, and this beautiful place that connected us. Thomas and Aurélie

I spent over a month working at the hostel and it was an incredible experience, I cannot recommend it highly enough. The hostel is well located in downtown, close to stores, coffe shops, restaurants and nightlife. It's on the rooftop of a building, so the view is great, and it's relatively quiet. There are lovely seating areas everywhere and lots of plants. The staff are amazing, friendly and kind, the standards for cleanliness are high and the rooms are simple but comfortable. I got to meet so many different people, connect with other travellers as well as the receptionists I worked with. They are kind people who tought me arabic, answered all my questions openly and we had great conversations. They made my stay so much better and helped me learn about life in Cairo. The work is relatively easy and fun, I did some receptionist work, organised activities, accompanied guests to them in the evenings and designed some signs for the hostel too. All in all, it was really enjoyable, and I learned a lot. The responsibilities are flexible, tailored to your strengths and interests a lot of the time. By the end of my stay I felt like I fit in well at the hostel, not in small part thanks to the incredible staff who were super helpful and looked out for me. Thank you to everyone and I hope to see you all again very soon!

It was a pleasure to host Naty. She mixed very well with the other workers and was happy to help both in the garden and with the cooking. I would recommend her to other hosts. And welcome her back again.

Heidi and I stayed with Máire, Declan and their children for a little more than 4 weeks. When we arrived, they welcomed us with open arms. Marianne and Florence got used to us very quickly. They are a very easygoing, funny and loving family! Every day was different from the other, so you would not get bored at all! We also got to meet the rest of this wonderful family on Florence’s 2nd birthday! We did lots of cleaning and organizing tasks, cooked dinner 2 days a week and played with the children in the afternoon and evening until they went to bed. Heidi and I split the work between us, so we had two kind of different experiences. We had some free time during the day until the children got picked up from preschool. Weekends were off to explore the area and they were always willing to give us a ride into town and back. We went to Lahinch with Máire and to the local pub with Declan. (A very funny experience). They are a very busy family, as they have a newborn baby, which is why they needed a lot of help. Thus we mostly “worked” a bit over-time. Nevertheless, we were both happy that we were able to help them so much. Thank you so much for your hospitality and I would recommend this family to everyone, especially to those who enjoy family life!

Tom was a very nice man, and he was very friendly as a teacher and teammate. He is very knowledgeable and a true intellectual. He was never late for class, and he was really dedicated. We never had any even slightest problem with him. You are most welcome anytime you want to be in Istanbul again. Thank you, Tom

Besides that, he was never late for class, and his classroom management was perfect. All our students became Taz fub. Wish he could stay longer. Thank you, Taz. Hope to see you back in Istanbul

Ed and Julianne spent about three weeks with us in October. They made it clear from the initial interview that they were looking for a set-up where only Ed would volunteer as Julianne was working online. This slightly changed the normal dynamic in that we didn't see as much of them as a couple as we normally would - I think we only shared 3/4 meals all together , as they mostly catered for themselves. It was compounded by the fact that they were house/dog sitting for about half of their stay as we were away They are very nice people and we enjoyed chatting with them whenever it happened. Ed was very helpful, smart and willing. He mowed lawns, raked leaves and gravel, and latterly helped to dig an enormous hole to try to get at an old collapsed cut-stone drain. He was always willing to help out. I would thoroughly recommend him to any host, and we wish them both all the best with their future plans. Thank you so much for all your help.

Alfie has been an amazing collaborator. He’s 20 years old and has incredible potential. I really admire his communication and his courage — he’s one of those people I truly believe will help change the world in his generation. Of course, he still needs to refine his spirit and character, but he’s determined, organized in his work, and has wonderful qualities that I’m sure he’ll keep developing. Everyone on the team hopes for that, and we’d love for him to get back in touch and collaborate again once he’s finished his studies — both at university and in life (probably in 5 yearas or less) . It’s been a real pleasure getting to know you, Alfie. You make me believe in a better world. You’re an oasis, and you should be a leader for a generation that’s faced — and continues to face — great challenges. He’s also a great cook — and an even better eater! Thank you for your humor, your communication, and your passion. We love you U Alfie if you need anything you know were we are. Big Hug
