I had the best time at The Den. John is doing something amazing by creating this community space for everyone to share their skills and feel welcomed. I would recommend staying here to everyone, a beautiful experience and a highlight of my trip in Japan. And he let us use his car to be able to explore the area on our days off. A above and beyond host, thank you so much for having me, I hope to return one day 😊

Easy going, energetic helper, sharp mind

We spent two beautiful weeks at the organic farm. Even though the team was going through a challenging period at that time due to a loss of a close member , we were welcomed with so much kindness and care from the first day and immediately felt at home. The Farm is set in the mountains with breathtaking views and stunning sunsets every evening (by good weather). The garden is beautiful and lovingly maintained. The Family was always motivated and happy to explain organic farming techniques and share their knowledge with joy and laughter. We had lots of fun together! Our work was varied and with a good physical balance, morning activities were more sporty and the afternoons more calm: grass cutting/picking, compost turning, leaf and hibiscus collecting , and sorting coffee beans before roasting. When it was rainy, we could normally work under a roof. Sharing this work in such a peaceful environment was very rewarding. The dhal bats were delicious and cooked with so much love. We also loved the fresh mandarine juice and Goyaves from the garden! Deepa showed us how to cook some dishes and shared the recipes. We could also always ask her about anything we need, she was attentive and very helpful. We enjoyed spending time together, chatting, exploring Nawalpur, and we had a cultural exchange with the neighbours as well. On our days off, we went hiking or headed to the next city, Melamchi. We were lucky to be there during Tihar, and celebrating it with everyone was magical. Experiencing the rituals, singing, and dancing together made us feel like part of the family. It was hard to leave! Our first Workaway experience there was really blast! Thank you so much.

I had a very nice stay at Yu Fen's! Before being a host, she was a workawayer herself, so she really knows how to treat a volunteer! I helped her mainly with light housechores and I had plenty of time to explore some touristic areas around Taoyuan and Taipei while I was at her's! Her apartment is very nice and it has all of the comforts you need! When we were together, we would spend time talking, exchanging stories and culture from our countries, which was lovely. Having studied Italian, I had the chance to talk Italian (and about Italy) the whole time, which was very nice. I hope I managed to teach her some words and expressions that might be useful for her future Italian trips! She even gave me a food tour at Raohe market, which I really enjoyed! I can really say that this was a true personal and cultural exchange, which is what I enjoy the most about workaway! I would 110% recommend her as a host and I really hope we can meet again in the future, maybe in Italy or Taiwan, who knows! <3

Odi could stay with us only for two weeks, but she left a strong and wonderful impression. Despite her young age, she is mature, calm, and reliable—we always felt we could trust her with any task. She approaches her work thoughtfully, communicates clearly, and brings a bright and pleasant atmosphere wherever she is. Her English is clear and beautifully spoken (no surprise, as she teaches English!), and conversations with her—whether light-hearted or more reflective—were always enjoyable. She has a natural ability to adapt to different people and situations, and got along well with everyone, including local people at the stained glass workshop. She enjoyed even simple cultural experiences like the small matcha tea ceremony with sincere curiosity and respect. She works with a great attitude, respects others, and seems to truly enjoy both traveling and learning along the way. We confidently recommend Odi to any host, and we would be very happy to welcome her back anytime.

Where do I start? From the moment, Pam arrived. her warm smile and gentle spirit was apparent. She immediately began offering to help and support us in anyway that was needed. Her specialty, at my home at least, was decluttering and my oh my, she did an amazing job! She was only here 10 days but proved to be a tremendous asset around our home. She arrived a stranger but left as a dear friend. You are welcome here anytime. You will be missed

Gee welcomed me with such kindness and simplicity! I really felt at home 😊 For my first Workaway experience, it was truly amazing! Thank you again, Gee, for your hospitality and thanks to your two children as well! We played cards, watched movies, and had so many great conversations. It was a fabulous moment 🥰

It was great to spend two weeks with Patricia and Gerard. The house is located next to a nice native forest with a huge beach at the end. Perfect for a walk and swim in the afternoon. It is also a great location to visit the Golden Bay. I didn't have a car but hitchhiking works very well here. Patricia and Gerard even helped me to do the Heaphy Track and I'm very thanksful for that. The work was not difficult, mostly gardening (transplanting seedlings, planting, weeding...) and they gave me some jobs indoor or in the glasshouse for the rainy days. That was very nice. I just LOVED being in the glasshouse! Such a beautiful place. I had a lot of time for myself in my own house, and I appreciated sharing dinner together and getting to know them better. Very friendly host, don't hesitate to go give them a hand!

We loved having Owen with us, he ended up staying for 2 month and became part of our family. It was easy to get along and I enjoyed his company. He is self-organized, enjoys physical labour, skilled with the chainsaw and doesn't mind working in any kind of weather. He will be missed and is always welcome back here. It also was beautiful to see how well he cared for the dogs on the property.

The experience was very lovely, it was very authentic living and working. We didn't have that much luck with the weather but on the days where it was good the work was fun and rewarding. The host (Miguel) was very helpful and open to show us the region and the surrounding places of interest.

Oliver is a well structured man. He works well and follows the rules. He even likes to confirm everything just to make sure that what he does is along with what the host expects him to do. His experience as a child therapist gives tons of valuable insights, such as how to deal with different kinds of students in terms of psychological conditions. He also helps to deal with some difficult students and assists them in their learning journey. He is very independent so I don't need to assist him all the time. He likes exploring and taking photos, and he makes friends very easily. He is also straightforward and likes to say whatever he has in his mind. On the other hand, he also listens carefully and takes feedback very seriously. I like it and I learn a lot from him. He seems very serious but actually he is so caring. He would ask for your conditions if he sees that there's something wrong with you. He also is very helpful when it comes to events outside the teaching routines. He excitedly promotes to everyone he meets which is very nice. Thank you for your wonderful support and valuable lessons and insights. I hope you great times in the future and good luck with your journeys ahead. See you again when I see you.

El mes que pasé en Castro fue fantástico. Me quedé en Hostel un mes y aprendí muchas cosas allá. Mi turno de la noche fue 5 horas al día: desde a las 6 hasta a las 11, 5 días a la semana. El trabajo incluso recepción, lavandería y limpieza fue bien explicado en ambos de español e inglés, y todos miembros me ayudaron mucho cuando no supe cómo hacer. Yo pude mejorar mi español mucho a través del trabajo por que por supuesto tuve que hablar español a los huéspedes. Explicar los equipos del hostal y responder a preguntas en la recepción fueron muy buena práctica. Además hablé con los miembros y huéspedes todos los días también en inglés. Cuando tuve tiempo libre, viajé por la isla de Chiloé y ví muchos paisajes hermosos gracias a las informaciones que Camila y Fran me enseñaron. Ellas son buenas guías! Fue primera vez que trabajé extranjero, pero fue muy divertido gracias a toda la gente a quien encontré allá. Tuve suerte de venir a La Hostel. Camila, Fran, la gatita Chochoca, todos huéspedes y voluntarios, muchas muchas gracias!! The month I spent in Castro was fantastic. I stayed at the Hostel for one month, and learned many things there. My turn of the night was 5 hours per day: from 6 to 11 p.m, 5 days per week. The tasks including reception, laundry and cleaning were well explained in both of Spanish and English, and all the members helped me a lot when I didn’t know how to do. I could improve my Spanish a lot through the work because I had to speak Spanish to the guests of course. Explaining about facilities and responding to questions at the reception were very good practices. When I had free time, I went to many places in the island and saw beautiful landscapes. Camila and Fran are familiar with various informations about the island. They are nice guides! It was the first time to work in a foreign country, but I enjoyed a lot thanks to all the people I met there. It was lucky to come to the Hostel. Camila, Fran, the cat Chochoca, all the guests and the members, thank you so much!! で過ごした1ヶ月は素晴らしい時間でした。私が担当した夜シフトは1日5時間(6時〜11時)、週5日で、主にチェックインや掃除、洗濯などを行いました。仕事内容は英語とスペイン語の両方で説明してもらえて、わからないことがあれば繰り返し教えてもらえました。またスペイン語がわからなかったりしたときもメンバーたちが助けてくれたので安心して仕事ができました。 仕事を通して、やはりスペイン語をかなり上達させることができました。ゲストに設備の説明をしたり質問に答えたり、スペイン語での実践会話は良い勉強になりました。また毎日メンバーたちと会話し、スペイン語だけでなく英語も練習できました。 自由時間にはオーナーのカミラとスタッフのフランに教えてもらった場所へ行き、チロエ島の美しい風景をたくさん見ることができました。2人とも素晴らしいガイドです！ 海外で働くのは初めてでしたが、ここで出会った全ての人たちのおかげでとても楽しい日々でした。にこられて本当に幸運だったと思います。カミラ、フラン、猫のチョチョーカ、全てのゲスト、そしてボランティア仲間たち、本当にありがとう！！Arigatou!!

I feel so lucky to have Louise and Richard as my first workaway hosts! For a week, I had such a great time staying at their beautiful house and exploring the villages and countryside. They were excellent company, and very helpful with showing me around the area. I helped with various tasks, including helping build some stone steps and painting. Richard was very patient and knowledgeable about carpentry and taught me how to do many things I didn't think I'd ever do! Louise was incredibly hospitable and I looked forward to her fantastic meals everyday that I was there. Thank you so much for the great experience!

It was a great pleasure to contribute to Maria, Alex, Steffi and Pablo's ecolodge ! It was the beggining of the season (October) so we mainly had construction work, to rebuild which was damaged by the storms this summer. The place is so calm, warm and peaceful, just like its hosts. Amazing sunsets and sunrise ! We were ten volunteers. Since there were no bookings yet we could all have our own tipee to live in (it should not be the case in high season). Was super confortable. A bit far from town and the surfing spots (40min walking or 10min colectivo which schedule was not really clear). Food was not included. Each person had its own groceries but it worked well ! We would work in the mornings (4h ish) and afternoons were free to do whatever (go to town, surf etc...). The island is such a paradise, I recommend for sure ! Maria, Alex and Steffi are really friendly and thoughtful. They didn't hesitate to adapt the schedule to our needs and were super understanding. Pablo was in the US so we didn't get the chance to meet him but I'm sure he's the same ! Thanks a lot for this experience ! Hope to see you soon :))

The experience was a wonderfull way to know a new culture, by the lessons with the students and the lunches and dinners with the other teachers and friends, the accomodation was in a food place near the center, in a very welcoming neighborhood with a quiet and friendly environment! During the days we had free time to know the city and its inhabitant, and the lessons where always funny and joyfull. During the weekend wenwent on trips to see the outskirts of the city and the near cities!

Hemos tenido una buena experiencia en Los Cascabeles. Andres y Betsy son muy amables, y los trabajos a realizar son bastante simples. Hemos tenido la oportuindad de conocer el proceso de la cosecha y secado del café, trabajar con la tierra y abono, cultivar hortalizas... Aunque esté a 40 mins de Circasia, no nos hemos sentido aislados en ningún momento, ya que hay buen servicio de jeep y si no siempre te recoge alguna moto. La gente de la zona es muy amable y es una buena manera para conocer Quindio. Muchas gracias por la experiencia!!!

With Lean and Nolan, we first had an in-person meeting in Calgary at a café to arrange everything for my start in February 2025, where they explained the tasks required and the care their home would need during their one-week vacation. We also created a WhatsApp group to stay organized for the month. During my stay, I took care of the farm; chickens, horses, cows, and pigs. In fact, some piglets were born while I was housesitting, which was an amazing experience to witness. I also did light house cleaning and some deep cleaning, and cooked a few dinners. With the pets, it was less about care and more about playing with the dogs and cats, who loved spending time both outdoors and indoors. They were also very attentive to the farm routine and always joined me at 7:00 am and 6:00 pm to feed the animals. I also spent time playing with their younger daughter and sharing snacks together. It was a very dynamic month, and I’m grateful for the experience (especially being able to watch the wide, beautiful sunrises and sunsets every day). And of course, enjoying the freshly collected eggs. Thank you so much!!! 🐕😺🐖🐎🐄🐓

This has been our first Workaway experience and it was absolutely amazing. We stayed for a week, which just flew by and we would've loved to stay longer. When we arrived there was already a group of volunteers there, like-minded people, which have grown into true friendships in such a short time. Our daily work ranged from taking care of Phonephets daughters, Vera and Emma (the cutest kids ever), planting watermelons, building hammocks, helping in the rice fields, playing with the children from the island and teaching English. In our free time we walked around the island, played with the dog, did yoga together. We would definitely recommend this Workaway to anyone who's looking for a cultural exchange and doesn't mind basic amenities. We are so happy that we were able to experience the island life thanks to Phonephet and really excited to see this project grow!

We had a wonderful time working on the first two weeks of the olive harvest. it is harvest time, so it is hard work but there was a good team spirit and Evalina is a clear communicator, letting us know the work routine each day. The accommodation is stunning and the food exceptional. Molise is a beautiful region and the view from the olive groves was stunning. Thankyou for such an authentic and rich experience.
