Oh… Wow! I stayed at Majken's home for five exciting weeks in autumn (September to October). In my time staying there I also met a mother from Germany with her son, a great guy from Czech Republic and a Spanish couple (all other workawayers). There are sooo many reasons why this was a wonderful workaway experience that I tried to organise my thoughts, and I think I can divide them into three main topics: Overview: 1. Natural surroundings with lovely animals 2. Majken is just great :) 3. A lot of different projects Description: 1. Natural surroundings with lovely animals The (quite old) house with the big and beautiful garden (including a vegetable garden) is surrounded by meadows, fields, and forests. 200 meters from the house is a little lake, and there is a raft which you can use to get out onto the water. The area with the house and a few other old buildings is located just outside a tiny village (it's more a bunch of a few houses), so it's super quiet and peaceful! (For the young people who need WiFi like me: The internet connection is very good, don't worry!) The garden is really big! There are a few apple trees in the "normal" garden, then you have the vegetable garden, and of course there is the big terrace where you can sit and relax! And there is a second little terrace next to the vegetable garden from where you can have a look over the neighbour's field. In the vegetable garden are many different vegetables and fruits. We could always go out and get a few raspberries for breakfast, or some potatoes for lunch / dinner (please note that I visited Majken in autumn). In the greenhouse are very sweet grapes and even more tomatoes! Considering the animals: Cheeky chickens, funny cats, lovely dogs and horses are waiting for you! I had the opportunity to ride out with Majken on one of the Icelandic horses, it was really great! The dogs have a lot of energy, play with each other and run out and in and out of the house. If Majken is working, the workawayer needs to feed the animals early in the morning (but most of the time Majken is at home and will do it). The house is very cosy, and the wood stove is great when it gets colder! 2. Majken is just great :) Majken is such a wonderful, creative, energetic, friendly, flexible and caring person!!! She is so nice and always asked me if I'm ok with the tasks, and I always could do a break if I needed it. And she asked me every morning if I had slept well, I will never forget that! I would also like to mention her cooking skills. Whatever is growing in the garden, she will do some magic and - Voilà - there's something delicious! That does not mean that she will cook every day. Sometimes she or a workawayer will cook for everyone, sometimes everyone just looks after themselves. You never have to come to eat with the others if you are not hungry / not in the mood for conversation and other people, everything about meals is flexible. And the homemade bread is very good, too! You can have a talk about life with her (Majken is very good in English!!), have a laugh or get lost in plans for the next project... ;) Thank you so much for showing me the Harry Potter movies!!! :) 3. A lot of different projects Well, this point can be a bit overwhelming in the first few days. Majken has so many ideas, plans and projects going on... Renovating the old buildings, painting, construction ideas, ... (At this point, I would like to mention the pizza oven that needs to be built, because I hope the next time I visit Majken this one is finished and ready to "create" a lot of pizzas ;) .) And of course there's also the usual cleaning stuff, feeding the animals and weeding in the garden. However, for the workawayers it's pretty cool to have so much stuff going on, because you can often choose what you would like to do, and if you don't feel like weeding, you can paint something, if you don't feel like painting, you can build something, and so on ... (Sometimes there is something that has to be done, but dear reader, I guess you get the point.) I can only say: I RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! I wish Majken all the very best for the future, I hope we will see each other again!!!! See you Eva

It was a pleasure to volunteer for Agata & Tamir. At their guesthouse and the calligraphy centre. They welcomed me with an open heart. Always taking care, that all volunteers have everything they need. Whether it was cooking equipment, food or enough warm blankets for colder nights. :) A rich variety of different tasks. Also supporting the volunteers' strengths. For example, I had the chance to organise and run a workshop myself. I did learn a lot during my stay - not only about script and calligraphy, also about the Mongolian way of living. Agata and Tamir, many thanks for this great experience.

Ania is one truly special soul! From the moment she arrived in Goroka, she brought sunshine and big energy to my project. She helped lift my whole homestay to a new level — from designing flyers, posters, postcards, and booking graphics to making my dream book “Introduction to Beehive Construction” look professional and beautiful. 🐝 She also helped me decorate the homestay, write traveler notes, create guesthouse listings, and even prepare products for the Goroka Show! She’s full of ideas, quick to adapt, and always ready to give 200% of her heart. Ania is creative, reliable, and fun to work with — always smiling, respectful, and full of good energy. She can do marketing, graphic design, social media, photography — and she really understands how to lift a project with soul. For any future host: you are lucky if Ania comes to your place! She will bring art, vision, and a big heart. Tenkyu tru, my sister — yu save wok strong na yu gat bigpela spirit. 🌺 You’ll always have a home in Goroka with our family. 🍯💛

I stayed at Pieter and Tinne’s farm for two weeks as my first Workaway, and honestly, it was a wonderful experience; I’m so glad this was where I started my journey. Getting there was simple, and Tinne kindly picked me up from the bus stop before welcoming me into their beautiful home for dinner. The farm itself is absolutely gorgeous and peaceful, waking up to see sheep grazing right outside the house felt like a dream for a city person like me. The garden is beautifully maintained, and I was lucky to catch the cherry blossoms and wisteria in bloom. Pieter also let us pick oranges, grapefruits, and lemons from his trees, and every night you can stargaze right from the property. I loved that they usually host more than one Workawayer, so you get to meet other travellers too. I stayed with a lovely couple from the UK; we cooked together, went on walks to spot wombats at night, and had picnics on the hills with the most stunning sunset. It was fun watching the curious cows everyday as well :) The accommodation was perfect; a spacious yet cozy separate house with a fireplace for cold nights, a comfy bed with warm duvets, strong hot water, and a fully equipped kitchen. During my stay, we mostly worked independently; Pieter gave us simple, clear tasks each morning, such as gardening (weeding, pruning, mulching, watering, planting) and general cleaning (windows, pool, etc.). Tinne was kind, often taking us to the grocery store when we needed things and even dropping us off at Healesville village on weekends to explore. I already miss Scruff greeting us every morning and watching her run around the tractor as well Mo charging towards us all the time. It was a truly comfortable and meaningful start to my time in Australia. Thank you so much, Pieter and Tinne, for welcoming us into your beautiful farm and making it such a memorable experience!

Maie was everything we had expected from her description and more. She had all the qualities she described and got on with the tasks we needed to do understanding what was expected with the minimum of instruction. She completed jobs to a high standard and at a quick pace. Maie was interested in the local social and cultural facts and took the opportunity of our location to travel to interesting nearby noteworthy places. Nearer home Maie was good company during shared time, offering interesting conversation. In all she was the perfect workawayer . Thank you Maie.

Dearest dearest Dana, Our hearts are very heavy this week missing you. The laughs and talks and your beautiful smile and kind gentle nature and crazy silly love for our animals allowed you to fit in immediately here. The hardest part of these 3-month stints are when our new friends leave us but the beautiful part is we stay bonded for life. We are so excited to see where your education path takes you and know you will be the most fantastic teacher and your students will LOVE you. Please plan your mini-break back to Galway and remember flying to Knock or Shannon Airport(s) is a good option too! Lots of love from Galway and the Twins send their LOVE too 😘

Mel was a delight, our boys miss her tremendously, she was a never ending bubble of energy, entertaining the kids, baking with them, trampolining. Mel was gregarious and fitted right in to the local community, will definitely be missed and is forever welcome at our place!

Rikke and Peter are a super lovely couple, great with animals, and dun to have around. Both are not only hard working, but also have a great sense of what needs to be done. They helped us in the garden, including some hard and heavy work. Cooking together was a joy, and any host lucky enough to host them should count his blessings!

Mai was an incredible help with the olive recolt. When the weather was inclement she helped enormously with painting the windows among other activities. While perhaps 'unskilled', Mai had several excellent ideas which we will incorporate in our lives. Miss her already !

Juliette and Milan are a lovely, friendly couple who we were fortunate enough to host. They were flexible in the tasks they did and loved the animals. They worked well within the team and contributed a lot to the working environment here. They would be welcome back here anytime.

Jonathan filled in for a Workawayer who had to leave suddenly in the middle of our olive recolt. Personable, enthusiastic, we really appreciated Jon's help. Unfortunately, a one-week stay isn't long enough to familiarize oneself with the property but Jon did his best assisting us. As we weren't able to communicate totally in French and I apologize for that, I look forward to Jon's next visit !

Staying with Mark and Thalie has been one of our best Australian experiences. It was our first Workaway. We planned to stay for a week but ended up staying a month. They are a sweet, lovely couple with so many funny stories and life experiences. We loved our time together and shared many special moments. They were very welcoming and it felt like home. We spent the mornings working 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, which gave us plenty of time to explore the island. Our tasks included sanding/painting furtinture, gardening, car detailing. We learned plenty of new skills and had a fun time working alonside Mark and his good music taste. The island is wonderful: amazing bays, hikes, snorkeling, sunsets and sunrises, scenic spots, and even toad racing! It was a privilege to have such an authentic experience thanks to their recommendations, favourite places, and deep knowledge of the island. We truly enjoyed living the “island life”; slowing down was just what we needed. Their house is simply beautiful, surrounded by nature we felt at peace very quickly. They’ve been building it for more than 30 years, which makes it more special. The room is spacious, on the first floor with its own garden entrance, giving us nice privacy. Thank you Mark & Thalie for welcoming us like family. We’ll never forget our time with you. Until next time!

Well, this place holds a unique chapter in my life. I came planning to stay for 15 days, but I ended up staying 25 ,simply because I loved it. I felt at home. We were all one big family ,colleagues, volunteers, and guests. I made international friends, we cooked together, and shared both small and big moments. It was my first time using this website, and I’m really grateful to all my colleagues at the hostel. They taught me everything needed for the smooth operation of the place from cleaning to check-in/out to hosting events. and this place is must have a visit, its so peaceful and enjoyable. Thank you, Aron, for the wonderful experience. I would definitely love to come back!

It’s now the second time Zoe is staying with us, but now as a family member. The first time she came to us was for three months, from June 7 to September 1. It was a wonderful, astonishing, and enriching experience. From the first moment, Zoe felt like we knew her since ever. Zoe is a very sensitive and helpful person, and she loves cooking. She is very funny and mindful. She fell in love with our dog, and the dog with her. There are no words to describe how good you would feel having her by your side. She is very flexible and cheerful. We love her so much, and we recommend her to anyone who treats her as well as she deserves.

Hello Heather, Thank you so much for the workaway experience and the fantastic time we had together. From the very beginning, you made us feel at home by giving us a little tour of Raglan and a warm welcome to your home. You are a super friendly, sweet, and open host. We learned a great amount about gardening and countless different plants, and we even went along to the local crop swap. Which was an amazing experience 🙂 Since we didn't have a car, we really appreciated that you gave us a car ride to the beach or town, whenever you could. Working with you in the garden was a pleasure and went smoothly thanks to your helpful and clear instructions. We will miss the wonderful conversations during the delicious Meansville and desserts you made for us. Thank you so much, and we hope you'll still be enjoying our spaghetti bolognese for a long time. We wish you all the best!!

Marialaura, Damia and Leonie are special and wonderful people. From the first minute on we felt welcomed and as a part of the family. We had an open, loving and caring communication and learned so much from them. Their generosity was outstanding. Furthermore we enjoyed living in their cozy house with Blanquito, their adorable cat. The work was given after individual preferences of timing and interests. Thank you for your hospitality and your gentle hearts. The Workaway experience couldn't have been better!!

I stayed with Mona and Ron for three months and it was such a lovely experience. From the first day, they made me feel like part of the family. Both are super kind and caring, and their home is very warm and welcoming. The work was always fair and easy to understand, and they were very patient if I had any questions. Mona is an amazing cook. There was always something tasty to eat! Ron always had funny stories and made everyone laugh. What I really liked is that it wasn’t just about working, but about living together and sharing daily life. I had so many nice talks, laughs, and moments with them. If you want a Workaway where you can feel at home, enjoy good food, and spend time with wonderful people, I can really recommend staying with Mona and Ron. Thank you both for everything. I had such a great time! 💛

Gilles, Joanne, and their wonderful kids, thank you for such a gorgeous stay at mas mimosa! What a beautiful family and oasis in the hills of the province Tarragona. For anyone looking for a workaway in Spain, I highly recommend coming here, you will be welcomed with open arms and have the best of both worlds as it’s both in nature and close to the sea. If you like working with animals and children, then this is also the place for you. The kids are the kindest, most gentle, bright and creative. Gilles and Joanne were amazing - thoughtful and generous from the start. You can see how much they truly care about their finca and creating a warm, welcoming environment for their guests. I’m very grateful for the chance to have shared some time with them and to experience their beautiful home. I hope to keep in touch and see them again one day soon. Wishing the whole family all the best!
