You are a wonderful family. I enjoyed every single second with you and am grateful that you shared your live so openly with me. From the very beginning, I felt like a member of the family. You are super kind, funny and have a remarkable lifestyle. Ray is a wonderful cook. With great patience, he showed me how to use the bamboo steamer and how to make the perfect sourdough. I also admire him for his ingenuity in coming up with hundreds of stories from a homemade paper booklet. Daniela is one of the most open-minded people I know. I will miss the long evenings with good conversations. Thanks to you, I now know all the tips and tricks in New Zealand. Konnie is a lovely girl. Finally, I could be a child again and play with her in the rain, try to make perfume from flowers, bake biscuits (perhaps it would have been better if we hadn't made up the recipe ourselves), do crafts, play... her energy is simply contagious. I am also very happy to have gotten to know your friends. You have a wonderful community. The Forrest School and Nature Play Sessions were a great experience and a lot of fun. I was able to learn so much and gather new ideas and impressions. You are perfect for Workawayers who want to improve their English and slowly get used to the country. I really appreciate how much freedom you gave me. It was no problem for you when I went on day hikes or drove to Wellington. I can wholeheartedly recommend you and am grateful for this unforgettable time. I am already looking forward to seeing you again ;)

So, where do we begin? We spent 12 wonderful days with Caroline, Kjetil, and their three children and it truly couldn’t have been better. They are incredibly kind and caring people, always patient and happy to explain things in detail whenever we had questions. Most of the tasks we did independently, but they were always nearby and ready to help whenever needed. During our stay, we also had the chance to meet three other Workawayers, which made the experience even more fun and enriching from the start. One highlight was helping out at the autumn market, where we got to chat with local families :) Caroline and Kjetil also gave us fantastic recommendations for things to do in the area, which helped us explore even more. All in all, we had a truly great time at their beautiful home and would love to return someday if the opportunity arises!🤍

Volunteering as a Veterinary Nurse: I recently had the privilege of spending a month volunteering as a Veterinary Nurse at this small but dedicated animal shelter on the beautiful island of Kos, Greece. During my time there, I worked alongside an inspiring team of professionals and volunteers who devote their energy and compassion to caring for stray, abandoned, and injured animals. My role involved assisting with medical treatments, routine health checks, wound care, general husbandry, and supporting the day-to-day running of the shelter. The experience was both professionally rewarding and personally humbling. With limited resources, the team achieves so much — their commitment to improving animal welfare and promoting responsible ownership is truly admirable. Volunteering reminded me of the power of teamwork, resilience, and empathy in veterinary practice. It also reinforced my belief that even small contributions can make a lasting difference in the lives of animals in need. The team were incredible - supportive, caring, empathetic, knowledgeable and passionate. It very quickly felt like home to us, and we created a new family (who week stay in touch with forever). If you’re ever in Kos or looking for a meaningful way to work with animals abroad, I highly recommend connecting and supporting their incredible work.

I really enjoyed staying at Shirin's place. We would work 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon, on 2 different projects: one is her personal garden, and one is at a local cultural space. The work can be physical, but it's not too demanding and it will be a bit different every day. If you can drive, she might ask you to drive her car so that moving around JB will be easier. Shirin is an amazing host and she is a very generous person. She would always make sure that we had plenty of food and made us try lots of local delicacies. She accomodated my vegetarian diet perfectly. We talked a lot, shared life experience, and I learnt a lot from her insights. If you're into alternative lifestyle this is the place to be - she lead a very alternative life and has a lot of stories to tell. As for the permaculture it's very interesting to see how the garden is kept and learn about it. I personally learnt a lot from the experience and the work I did made me gain more confidence in myself. I'm really grateful for this experience and for meeting Shirin :)

She has been very dedicated and helpful. She supported us with swimming, beekeeping, skating, and also assisted with video recording and related activities. We also explored upcycling cloth materials together, and we wish her great success in her future endeavors with upcycling old fabrics.

I stayed with Angela and her family for a week and had such a wonderful experience. The work was easy and enjoyable, and Angela was very flexible, which gave me plenty of time to explore the nearby glacier towns. She’s an amazing cook and always made sure everyone was well-fed and happy — the meals were delicious and nourishing! I had my own lovely room with a private bathroom, which offered a perfect balance of comfort and privacy. The whole family was warm, welcoming, and great company. We had many interesting conversations, lots of laughs, and even played some Mario Kart on my last evening together — such a fun way to end my stay. Angela is generous, kind, and genuinely interested in making sure her guests have a great experience. If you’re lucky and her husband is home, he might take you out for a fun outdoor adventure as well. I can highly recommend staying with this family — it truly felt like a home away from home.

It was an absolute delight getting to know you and seeing you interact with the kids. You're both wonderful people and genuinely happy to help, it made a huge difference to our family! We truly enjoyed your company and the chats over dinner - cooked by Maria (thanks!!!). Jo, thanks for all the hard work in the garden planting trees, pruning and weeding. The garden hasn't looked this good in ages. Thank you both for your playfulness and patience with the kids, they loved hanging out with you. Maria, also thanks for all the tidying and cleaning after them - incredible how quick the house can be turned upside down...We can't wait to hear more about your adventures and wish you an amazing time with family in Hawaii. Bigs hugs from all of us - we are missing you already xxx

Carolain and Brayan were a relaxed and friendly couple , easy to have around and always keen to help with anything and learn new things. We had great conversations about all sorts of topics, and they cooked the best meals (amazing chilian soup, BBQ, bread, cake, etc) They happened to be with us during a challenging time when a big storm hit and the power was out for four days, but they took it all in stride and managed it without any worries. We really appreciated their positive attitude and adaptability.

Cameron joined us at the Bison Ranch for a two-month stay, and her presence was a true asset to our team. From day one, she brought a fantastic personality and a helpful attitude that made her a joy to work with. She quickly understood the tasks at hand and consistently ensured everything was completed thoroughly and correctly—even when new volunteers arrived, Cameron remained a steady and reliable guide. Her initiative and attention to detail were greatly appreciated. Beyond her work ethic, Cameron was always open to conversation, generously sharing stories from her travels and adventures. Her warmth and openness added a wonderful dynamic to our daily routines, making the ranch feel even more like home. We’re grateful for her time here and wish her all the best in her future journeys. She’ll always be welcome back at the ranch!

We're already missing our Wellington "home"! The house is old but charming and sits on a hill—be ready to climb a lot of stairs during work. It is also very close to the beach, where you can swim, surf, or do my favorite thing: plane spotting. You cannot miss our favorite spot in town—Maranui Cafe! The work was hard: making a new garden, moving tons of buckets full of soil and gravel, and lots of weeding. But we like hard jobs—it makes us happy to see progress. Two cats kept us company. They know what is important: sleeping 23 hours a day! Rachael is a great host—you will get five-star service. She even waited up with a late dinner when we came back from our adventure trip. Her "problem => solution" attitude is very inspiring. We really appreciated the small gifts and favors, like when she brought bunch of our favorite Wilderness magazines, or the fishing lures for my hopeless fishing, the wool for Daniela's knitting projects, a drop-off at a hiking place, or a lift to Auckland as the best bonus. She also invited us to minigolf—just to name a few. We spent many evenings chatting together for long hours, having fun, learning card tricks, and getting to know a lot about the country and life in NZ. Long story short: during our 650+ day trip, Wellington became our top favorite stop. It is not every day you find the perfect mix of a comfortable place to stay, good (and a lot of!) food, satisfying work, meaningful use of free time, and last but not least - a very nice host who takes great care of you. Rachael, thank you for having us. When we are back in NZ, we will make time to check on "our garden." Cheers!

Tom and Sophie were quick to understand the tasks and grasped their essence, so we could trust them completely. Tom has outstanding physical strength, and Sophie was able to fully apply herself to the hard work in the fields. They showed respect for each other’s cultures, and we had many enjoyable conversations during meals. They were kind to our son and followed the house rules properly, which made their stay very pleasant. Without a doubt, they are a highly capable pair!

If I had to describe her in one word I would use, immaculate! Though Leng did not have any gardening experience she was very good at learning and curious about related details; whatever tusk was given to her she was meticulous at it. Precision, promptness, tidiness, cleanliness, politeness, respect to house rules and environment must be inherent in her. Last but not least she was great with my pets, Aira, the dog Corek and the cat Tonic adored her. Thank you for your loving care of them while I had to take the Jeep to sevice in Izmir for 2 nights & 3 days. You are most welcome to come again!

My two weeks with Carrie and Gibby were amazing! They made me feel like part of the family and I quickly felt at home. I really enjoyed helping with cooking, taking care of the lambs, dogs, and chickens and doing gardening. Carrie is so kind and generous. I loved spending time with her, chatting and laughing. Gibby is patient and always happy to share his knowledge; I learned a lot about sheep and cattle farming. The landscapes are incredible and I’m leaving with wonderful memories, new skills and a lot of gratitude. I’ll really miss them both! I highly recommend staying with Carrie and Gibby! Thank you again for this unforgettable Workaway experience

We spent two amazing weeks at Tory's place where we slept in the small yurt. Tory let us stay in her yurt when we did a little of house/pet sitting which was absolutely lovely. There were always good vibes and everything you need to prepare delicious food. The place is wonderful with a lot of fruit trees (all blooming when we were there) and a nice garden. We helped Tory in some projects going on. We enjoyed making some weeding in the garden and around, and also making some improvement in the mud hut. Life was really nice there and taking care of the chickens, the pigs and the adorable Juni was a good part of each day we spent there. We shared great moments with Tory, going to the batucada, to the Whanganui market or spending time with the boys. Thank you very much Tory for having us with you during that time, it was a pleasure to meet you, the boys and your parents ! Cuddles to the lovely animals. ❤️

*french version below* I left Julie's home around 6 weeks ago and I truly had the best time there. At the time of my stay Julie's doughter and her little son and dog were also there and I helped with buying groceries, setting up vegetable and fruit beds and preparing rooms for Air BnB guests. At that time I especially helped Julie's daughter by readjusting some things in the house. But with Julie I also went to another village where I helped her setting up photographs for an exhibition about Pasquale Paoli which was super interesting and fun! In my free time I liked to go on walks or there were opportunities to go to other places nearby with Julie or her daughter. On many days we even went to the beach together! Thank you Julie and Héloïse for letting me stay at your place and for giving me such a warm welcome.
