If you have the privilege of being welcomed into Lucy and Marcus’ home, then you’re in for a beautiful experience that you’ll really treasure. For a family who have welcomed strangers into their home for over 15 years, my arrival was still met with so much enthusiasm and they went to such lengths to make my time memorable. I had to miss the olive harvest so Marcus drove me to the olive pressing place to learn about it all and taste fresh olive oil because he knew how special it was. Lucy paints everyday, and encouraged us to join her when we weren’t working, she’d bake delicious goods to help us through the hours of chestnut sorting, and I really enjoyed us cooking meals together. There were always interesting conversations and insights circulating every day, and the dynamic amongst the workawayers they had picked was really great. We worked hard, but in a way that felt super fulfilling throughout the harvest, and still had generous amounts of time to recharge. These are two people that care so greatly about their community and have such a talent for creating warmth and laughter around them. Thank you to you both for having me, give my love to lola and the animals❤️

È stato un vero piacere avere Erika e Nico con noi per due settimane! Sarebbero dovuti venire per la raccolta delle olive, ma purtroppo quest’anno non ce ne sono state… eppure si sono resi utilissimi in tantissimi altri lavori, sempre con entusiasmo, disponibilità e un bellissimo spirito di collaborazione. Abbiamo condiviso momenti molto piacevoli insieme, tra lavoro, chiacchiere chitarre e risate, e ci ha fatto davvero piacere conoscerli e passare del tempo con loro. Abbiamo condiviso ricette e abbiamo imparato un po' meglio le nostre rispettive lingue. Sono due persone solari, rispettose e sempre pronte a dare una mano. Li ringraziamo di cuore anche da parte del nostro cane Oro e di tutti i gatti e le gallinelle — per la loro energia positiva e il loro aiuto prezioso. Speriamo davvero di rivederli presto, magari per la prossima raccolta delle olive!

We were very happy to host Manyatha, and it was truly a wonderful experience having her with us. She is a warm-hearted, respectful, and gentle person who brings a very positive energy into the house. From the first day, she was eager to help and adapted to the environment very quickly. Her cooking skills are amazing – she prepared delicious meals with care and creativity, and she also helped clean the kitchen and keep everything organised without being asked. She supported us with teaching English and basic computer skills, and she did it with great patience, clear explanation, and a friendly attitude that made the students feel comfortable. She is very responsible, learns fast, and always pays attention to small details. One thing that impressed me the most was how perfectly she folded the bed sheets – they were always smooth, neat, and tightly tucked as if done by a professional! It showed how much care she puts into even simple tasks. She worked well with everyone, communicated politely, and was always willing to help. The children loved her, and she made learning fun for them. She never complained, always smiled, and created a peaceful, happy atmosphere around her. We are very grateful for everything she contributed during her stay. Any host who has the chance to welcome her will be very lucky. We highly recommend her with complete confidence, and she is always welcome to return anytime. 💛

Carla is the best host you can find. She's warm, friendly, funny, welcoming, lively - simply beautiful human! From the moment I arrived at her Hostel and met Jheff and the team, I felt welcomed and just comfortable right away. For they take on the mission of crafting a temporary home for travelers and it certainly did feel like one to me. My best wishes for you and the project. And all my gratitude for it and for you! Caroline and Elisa stayed with us for two memorable weeks and made an wonderfull exchange on our farm. It was a great delight for us to host them. They adapted quickly into our environment and soon became like family, everyone in our community loved their kind and happy attitude. They have an incredible positive and proactive approach, are very helpful, hard working, understanding, curious and passionate. Caroline and Elisa was dream volunteers for us. Our best recommendations.

Charlie was a model guest! He is friendly, thoughtful, easy to be around, a very hard worker, and great with our two young kids. Most of the jobs that he did were not very exciting but he always did them thoroughly and with a great attitude. He is also able to problem solve on his own/see what needs to be done and we didn’t need to supervise much of what he did, which made our lives so much easier! We also appreciated his curiosity about our culture and desire to do ‘all the things’. He never seemed phased by the chaos of our kids and generously followed our toddler around the acreage so that I could get some things done in the house. He also made a delicious meat pie meal! I’d highly recommend Charlie and hope that our paths cross again!

We stayed with Daniel for about ten days, and they were truly some of the best days of our trip. The work was easy and everything went smoothly. Daniel is incredibly kind, generous, and has such a warm, gentle heart. He shared everything with us and always made us feel welcome. We went to the beach together, visited Sitges, and on our last day he surprised us by showing us around Barcelona — an unforgettable experience. Meeting Daniel was a real honor, and we will never forget our time with him. We truly hope our paths cross again. We wish Daniel all the best and a life full of happiness and success. T_SAM & SONIA

Where to begin...I got here through a friend who was working there and assured me that it was a great place. But my experience exceeded by far my expectations - both personally and professionally. Dani and Ralf are amazing people and we connected deeply. Even during the most busy moments of the season, they always took the time to sit with us for a meal or a cup of coffee (or a glass of wine!) and make sure that everyone in the team was feeling good. And sometimes they even took us for dinner in the surroundings or to Wiesbaden. They are extremely receptive to everyone's needs: the wellbeing of the workawayers is really a priority for them. The work has a basic organizational structure, but there is great room for creativity and inputs. I did some cleaning and gardening, but I was mainly in the kitchen. There, Dani entrusted us with great autonomy and I really improved my cooking and organizational skills. The place is well connected to the closest cities. But on most of my free days I just enjoyed the nature around the campsite, going for long walks in the woods. I cherish the nice moments I spent there and I am really greatful to all the people who shared them with me. I hope I'll be back soon!

My time with Bee and Soy was so great. I stayed in their home for two nights and both showed me so much of the rich Mongolian culture. I felt like family and can totally recommend to stay with those two amazing souls. I loved beeing their 772nd guest in their Ger. We made memories I will cherish forever. Hopefully they will someday visit me in Germany and we can continue our deep conversations and I can show them a little bit of the German culture. I volunteered in Quillabamba for three and a half weeks and really enjoyed my time there. Marcia and her family were incredibly welcoming - always happy to help and cooking two delicious meals every day! The kids and adults at the school were enthusiastic, full of energy and a pleasure to work with. Teaching English in a community with limited opportunities to learn was a truly rewarding experience. Quillabamba itself is a quiet but beautiful city with consistently lovely weather (especially for an Englishman!), stunning waterfalls, and plenty of cafés serving great local coffee and chocolate. I’ll always have a special place in my heart for Quillabamba, and I highly recommend staying with Marcia and her family if you’re looking for a different yet meaningful and memorable travel experience.

It was a true pleasure to spend September and October 2025 with Alwin, Stephanie, and the boys Noah, Mika, and Jonah. Alvin kindly invited me to his beautiful home and large garden to help him with various gardening tasks and to assist while he and his family hosted a wine festival. Fortunately for me, I arrived for the harvest season, everything from pumpkins and tomatoes to apples and walnuts. What began as a short collaboration turned into a stay of almost two months. I had the honor of looking after their house and pets (Teo, Balou, the chickens, and the ducks) while they were on vacation for two weeks. I’m grateful for the trust they placed in me. It’s a great place to practice your German if you’re learning it, and the older boys (now teenagers) speak English very well, so communication is never a problem. The village is very peaceful and close to nature. Just a few kilometers away is Sittard, a larger city in the Netherlands. You can also easily reach Aachen, a German city steeped in history. Overall, the treatment I received as a volunteer was one of the best in my Workaway experience. The apartment in the house was perfect for me, with a kitchen and private bathroom. They always provided me with everything I needed. In my stay, I had plenty of time to relax and feel right at home. Sending you all a warm hug! If life allows, I would definitely visit again. Thank you for everything!

I was searching for a place where I can stay in nature, learn new things but also contribute with my own skills and this project was really the best place for me! Dani and Ralf welcomed me from the beginning with a warm heart and in a cute but big apartment, can't imagine a better place to spend early summer days. They always made sure that me and other workawayers feel like home. There was always a lot to do but also always a chance to rest if needed. The project, Dani and Ralf really have a special place in my heart and its definitely one of my core experiences. I really hope we gonna meet each other again and wish all the best to the campsite and both Dani and Ralf. See you and viel dank! <3

I spent some wonderful days with Joana, Tiago, Pedro and María. They welcomed me as if we were already friends. There was always a good laugh, and Joana makes the best vegan food I've ever tried. They are very kind. A beautiful and loving family. I hope to come back (in the summer time (If we are still alive Tiago)). Thank you for everything. Your Chilean Prima. Gaby.

J’ai vécu une expérience incroyablement humaine et culturelle à Smara et je remercie infiniment Lahcen pour ça. Tout d’abord, Lahcen et sa famille vous accueillent à bras ouverts et font tout pour que vous vous sentiez comme chez vous. Leur hospitalité et leur bienveillance m’ont immédiatement fait sentir comme à la maison. La cuisine de la maman de Lahcen est excellente : un vrai plaisir de goûter aux plats sahraouis. Ensuite, je crois qu’il n’existe pas de plus belle expérience humaine que d’enseigner sa langue maternelle au centre Vieuchange. Les personnes qui y travaillent sont d’une gentillesse et d’une générosité remarquables, toujours prêtes à partager des moments en dehors des cours et à célébrer la vie. Avec, en plus, les autres volontaires sur place d'autres nationalités, c’est un véritable échange culturel qui se crée. Les élèves sont gentils, respectueux et ont une grande soif d’apprendre, que ce soit les enfants ou les adultes. Malheureusement, à mon grand regret, je n’ai pu rester qu’une semaine. J’encourage vivement toutes les personnes qui envisagent de venir à rester au moins deux semaines. D’abord, parce qu’il faut un peu de temps pour prendre ses repères, connaître les élèves et s’installer dans l’enseignement. Ensuite, parce qu’au fil des jours, une vraie confiance s’installe entre l'enseignant·e et les élèves, ce qui permet un travail plus approfondi sur les leçons. Enfin, parce qu’au bout de quelques jours seulement, vous faites déjà partie intégrante de la Smara Family. J’encourage donc tout le monde à venir vivre cette expérience humaine, culturelle, unique et dépaysante. Sachez qu'il n’est pas nécessaire d’avoir de l’expérience dans l’enseignement; Personnellement, je n’avais jamais donné de cours de français auparavant, et même si certaines situations étaient un défi (notamment lorsque je faisais classe à des élèves ne parlant pas du tout français, alors que je ne parlais ni arabe ni le dialecte de Smara) nous avons toujours trouvé des moyens de communiquer. Le sourire, la patience et la bienveillance remplacent souvent les mots. Ce qui compte réellement, c’est l’envie de partager sa langue et sa culture. Alors si vous hésitez encore à venir, n’hésitez plus : vous ne le regretterez pas ! D’autant que le centre a un réel besoin de personnes francophones sur place. Une, deux, trois… il n’y aura jamais trop de volontaires pour faire apprendre la langue française à Smara ! J'espère de tout cœur revenir un jour à Smara, revoir Lahcen et sa famille, les filles et les enseignant·es du centre, les élèves ainsi que l'évolution du centre. Inch'Allah ✨

A little late, but talking about such a great experience is a must! We spent an amazing time at the project for three months (from the beginning of april until the end of june). Both of us did gardening work, while I (Ana) also helped with cleaning, and bartending, and I (Agustín) was in charge of the kitchen. Dani and Ralph are wonderful hosts. They do everything to make you feel comfortable and are always open to hearing suggestions to improve the workplace. Thanks to them, the whole team works really well together. They were very understanding with our schedules and days off, and made life on site really easy. They were always generous and thoughtful, helping us with anything we needed, and even took time to show us around the project and its beautiful surroundings. They are truly friendly and kind people. The house we stayed in was really comfortable, and the area itself is perfect for walking or going on trekking routes. We also had the chance to work with local people from the area, which was a great opportunity to connect with them and learn a bit of the language. We want to give a special thank-you to Doreen, Tim, and Breta, who were amazing to work with and helped us a lot in communicating both with the German-speaking team members and with the customers. We really appreciated their kindness and support—they made our days even more enjoyable. This experience was a fantastic way to gain new skills in different fields, improve our English, and learn some German too. It was a unique experience—mostly thanks to Dani and Ralph. We are very grateful to both of them and would highly recommend this place to anyone! We were originally going to stay for two months, and we extended it for another one, although if we could have, we would have stayed even longer! I hope we can return sometime, either as Workaway workers or as guests. The project and its people are magical!

Having VIctor at my place was a real blessing. It felt more like we were housemates than workawaying

I worked for seven weeks alongside Sharon, András, a bunch of other volunteers and of course, the animals of the sanctuary and...it was an incredible experience. It was my first Workaway and I could not have had a better time. I was lucky enough to work with animals everyday. The tasks were varied : cleaning the enclosures, feeding the animals, making food for them, walking the dogs, taking care of the zoo itself, help improve the pathways, weeding... which means it was never boring! It is hard work, but you get to work with other volunteers and you also get 2 days off a week. Everything you do there is to ensure a good quality of life for the amazing animals Sharon and András care for daily, which makes it all the more worth it. You will learn so much about all kinds of animals (there are so many different species in the sanctuary!! On top of that, Sharon is incredibly knowledgeable and eager to share what she knows : ask her anything about animals, and she will answer you!) and obviously about yourself too. You will fall in love with this place, with the work, with the animals, with the amazing people that you will meet. My words don't really do this place or this experience justice so, my best advice would be to apply. Right now. You won't regret it. :)
