There are a million ways to spend your time... I find myself spending most of mine close to the ocean either surfing, sailing, or swimming. I like to think I was a fish in my past life!

Description

Hi there! My partner Mel and I have just recently left our hometown of San Diego in pursuit of an extended trip around the beautiful South Pacific Ocean. We are looking to spend a couple of months moving through North / South islands of New Zealand before hopping over to Australia where we will traverse North towards the Great Barrier Reef.

Since there is so much to see and only so little time we would like to be extremely intentional with how we are spending our holiday. Surely there is always time for a margarita on the beach, but we also want to make sure there is time for the things we truly value -- growth and adventure! We are both in very exciting parts of our careers. Mel recently graduated from her Master's program in Traditional Chinese Medicine and became a licensed acupuncturist. In addition to that, I recently acquired my Captain's license, allowing me to charter boats and share my love of the ocean with those around me. We would love to find a work exchange opportunity that will allow us to utilize our skillsets (more on those in the next section) while meeting people that we can connect and share stories with along the way.

We have both taken extended international trips (together & solo) are very comfortable with the style of travel that comes with living out of backpacks with limited accommodation.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

We are very excited to share our skillsets and experiences with the people we cross paths with.

Mel spent many years of her youth in Texas on her family's farm as a caretaker for their goats, cow, dogs, and horses. She is knowledgable about general farm maintenance and animal care. Most of her knowledge is focused on horses, as she has spent many hours in the saddle through her teens and adult years. Mel is comfortable with feeding, handling, and grooming, and paddock maintenance. Fortunately her love isn't exclusive to only animals, she loves humans as well! Mel is a licensed acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist and loves sharing her passion for holistic medicine with those around her. In addition to that, Mel has spent some time as a nanny in the past and enjoys spending time with children.

As for me, I like fixing things, building things and getting my hands dirty! I am always looking for a new project to challenge myself and build upon my skillset. I am comfortable working on a variety of tasks from mechanical systems to woodworking. The last work exchange I was apart of I gained valuable experience pouring concrete slabs, building structures, and tending to our orchard. I loved every bit of it. I currently work as a yacht systems mechanic where I get to tinker day in and day out while also spending lots of time on the water. I just recently acquired my Captains license and am looking to learn more about the boat industry in NZ & AUS. I've also just recently found interest in architecture, permaculture and sustainability and would love an opportunity to learn more about these topics first hand.

Although we feel confident in the skills we are able to share with our hosts we are always eager to learn a new skill and try something out of our comfort zone.
