  • Description

    Hi, i'm Robby (Roberta).
I'm reviewing my profile, now that my sabbatical has ended and I'm wandering: should I leave what I have written before?
During this year I have met amazing people, I have discovered that you can make different choices and try something new, if you are not ok with what your life had become (I knew that even before, but it was hypothetical, not it's something that I know in my gut) and you can change prospective ALL THE TIME.
I'm back to work now and, for now, that's good for me. I don't intend to stop traveling though! It will just need a bit more organisation and I'll would probably travel for a maximum of 2 weeks and a half but I'll not loose the opportunity to renew my prospective by learning how you live.
So, back to the initial question: do I leave it? I'll not! But if you want to read it, I leave a screenshot in the photos!
So, here are the basic information:
I live in northern Italy, I am a social worker and I work mainly with adults and elderly people, I'm 46 years old, I am open, trustful, curious, empathetic, respectful. For the last 20 years my job has been to help people solve their problems so, in my spare time, I needed to do things that could give me a tangible result (carving, knitting, tatting, picking fruit to make jam, painting a wall and so on) because, you know, everyone goes at their own pace. I learned patience and lateral thinking, a lot of problem solving and that we are all similar but profoundly different. I value respect and the ability to think. I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty and I like manual labor

    What else?
If you give me a chance I'll try my best and I'll ask you (not annoyingly ALL the time), if I should do things in a different way, so that it would be easier to understand each other.

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I don't think that I'm lacking in confidence but to state that I've this or that skill is a bit difficult for me. I can do a lot of things, but since I'm not a total perfectionist, I'm asking myself "I can do this and that, but am I good enough to call it a SKILL???". So, if you need to know something specific, please ask!
I'm "not young" so I have done a few jobs. Since 2002 I work as a social worker but, before that, I have worked in a pub, in a sport shop, in a child care summer project; when I was a grad student, I worked for several years in a field picking apples.
I have enjoyed every job, because it have given me the chance to learn something new.
I'm a reasonably good cook (not only pasta), I'm pretty satisfied with my gardening (and I became even moro so during my sabbatical); I do most of my house maintenance and I'm still alive (I never electrocuted myself...for now!) but I believe I'd be more careful, dealing with somebody else's house, I don't want to do any damage! But you'd be safe handing me a brush for painting or by telling (or showing) me what to do.
I knit, crochet, tat and I have developed a huge interest in woodworking (carving and whittling, mostly, but I would love to learn how to build something). What else? I love animals (it's not really a skill, but they usually sense that and respond in a positive way to me), I volunteered in an animal shelter as a kid.

Even if I'm the opposite of tall I've played volleyball most of my life, I still play beach volley and swim and can teach about it.

I grow some vegetables in my balcony (basil, salad, tomatoes, peas, green beans, violet beans, Brussel sprouts, baby eggplant) and I'm delighted to hear that the vegetables I planted in my host's polytunnel are growing strong bearing fruits.

"NEW -not-really-a-skill Skill": at the end of march 22 I've quit smoking; I believed that it would be better for everyone (ESPECIALLY ME) if I would not smoke during my travels so I quit, I was a smoker for more than 20 years. I know, that is NOT a skill...but I'm determined!!! and maybe being determined has its value too :o)

If you are searching for something in particular, just ask and I will tell you if I'll be able to learn it or improve in time! I'm straightforward (with a pinch of diplomacy) so if you ask, I'll answer truthfully. Sadly I can't have a chainsaw certification, because courses will be held next year in my city. I'm more than comfortable using basic tools (drills, jigsaw and so on) and I generally like to learn how to use any tool. In some way or another, I ended up digging holes in the walls of my hosts, once with hammer and chisel and another time with a motorized tool that I called "the cow" (it made a weird noise) and I GREATLY ENJOYED IT, so, just so you know

  • Autres infos...

    I'm fully vaccinated and boosted

    About age: I wrote I'm 46, because I was borne in '77, but sometimes I'm 14, sometimes 20, sometimes 68... sometimes even 5!

About what I need: currently I need a large cappuccino ASAA (as soon as awake) and another a few hours later to function (I can bring my coffee and moka with me); I know that people that are fully awake as soon as they open their eyes exist but, in my experience, I'm more similar to a unicorn that to them. BUT I say "currently" because I know that everything can change (a few months ago I needed cigarettes...not anymore!) and maybe my cappuccinos could become a pleasure, rather than a need.
But, for now, if you look at my pictures, you'll find a t-shirt that I've made to explain my relationship with coffee 😅.

I recently started kayaking and I really like it, so being near water would be a plus!

Thank you so much for your interest, I'm always pleased to hear from anyone because it is a pleasure! and I can practice some English so, if you like to chat, I'm waiting for your email. Have a nice day,👋
