Description

My name is Margarita and I am from Guatemala. I am an artist. I love working visual ad plastic art like painting, drawing but also singing and I am learning to play the piano.
As a young person I didn't travel too much and when I started doing it in my country I discovered it is an activity I enjoy too much. 2019 it was my first time travelling by plane because I went to Colombia, and being very far from my home made me think on what is my relation with my private spaces and also the relation between the place I am and the Sun, which led me to make a couple of artworks where I was staying.
I am more and more interested on the experience of being in different places and I am enjoying a lot the different landscapes one can see in a trip. I specially love watching sunrises.
Bogotá is the second city I have visited after San Salvador and here I also loved it. To both places I went to visit art galleries and I went to jazz festivals. Hearing music is another thing I love. But being in these two places reminded me I don't know very much of my own country. So last two years I stopped living in Guatemala City, my hometown and started volunteering in Panajachel, a town far away from my family but near a lake and I had many new experiences there. I stopped the volunteering for a while and started working again so I used my time to also learn new languages, french, portuguese and japanese.

Now I'm going to an artistic residency in Portugal but I hope I can continue teaching online to discover more of Europe at the same time that I get more stories and experience to have as an inspiration for my art.

Spanish is my mother tonge and I love learning new languages. I speak fluent English, which i learned at school but have practiced in my jobs in call centers (I made the Michigan test, earning 93 pts.). My last job was providing customer service in french and now I'm moving to Portugal to improve in my Portuguese. I have been studying Japanese for almost two years and though it's the most difficult language I've learned I enjoy it very much.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I have worked on a huge variety of things, from delivering magazines door to door and answering calls in english and spanish; from Artistic Expression teacher to assistant in a Printshop and also an artist´s engraving assistant. I realized I can do a part time job to have time to do my art anywhere actually, so I thought why not find these jobs by travelling.
I love learning new languages, I speak fluent English and Spanish and I am currently studying Portuguese and Japanese.
My last job was about providing written customer service in French.
I have also sang in bands and alone with my piano, mostly boleros, pop and jazz.
I am open minded and have lived in many ways, I have lived alone and also with 1 roommate and also with 4 roommates, knowing how to live in group and sharing chores and spaces.

I am an artist whose specialty is engraving but I have worked painting, drawing, performance, ephemeral installations, etc. To me the idea drives the medium so sometimes the idea on my mind comes out as an image, sometimes as a composition of sounds. I have participated in art exhibitions and art residencies. I am also a singer. I have participated in a jazz camp in the one I introduced myself to this world but lately I have been learning piano to accompany myself on singing boleros and other genres. Recently with the quarantine, I have done some lives on instagram or my facebook page. I also love doing make up for these performances and if I had the time I would love to create my own costumes. During my first workaway in Panajachel I was able to sing at many restaurants in the area, sometimes alone and sometimes with a local band.
