  • Description

    Hello,

My name is Dan. I am 24, and of mixed British ancestry. I am currently in Tasmania from the 31st of October and I am looking to find a place to stay while I'm here. I'm currently in Hobart, and I'm looking for approximately a month stay to get my bearings at the moment.

I currently have 3 years experience in landscaping and forestry, along with experience in nursery work, organic and conventional agriculture and horticultural production, livestock husbandry, construction and demolition.

I have UK chainsaw licenses for small and large trees and Windblow Clearance, a forestry first aid certification, both from NPTC, a UK driver's license and a BSC on Horticulture with Plantsmanship (awkward Uni way of saying Horticulture and Botany, but it's what's on the certificate) from UHI (University of the Highlands and Islands), SRUC (Scotland's Rural University College)and RBGE (Royal Botanic Garden of Edinburgh), along with some forestry SQA (Scottish Qualification Association) from UHI.

I have experience with most handheld power and manual tools from drills, stone saws and breakers to hoes, picks and shovels, and chainsaws of course, along with plant such as stump grinders, chippers, dumpers, small tractors, compaction plates, mixers and a small amount of excavator experience.

I am looking to work in both construction, but in a more sustainable way such as timber framing and earth ships, and farming of more interesting crops such as garlic, citrus or chillies as I find the families to which they belong rather interesting. I would also like to learn more about livestock husbandry again.

I grew up on a smallholding in Cumbria with polytunnels, rare breed chickens, pigs, sheep and cows, and spent most of my free time fishing and foraging in the surrounding fells. I am interested in bushcraft, fishing, hiking, camping and reading in my spare time, and hope to learn woodwork.

I am more than happy to provide a CV to any interested parties with references, and I am hard worker and fast learner, and I don't like doing things wrong or leaving them half done. I will always listen to those more experienced than me and am equally happy to share knowledge on my part.

Having spent all my life in Cumbria and the Scottish Highlands, there's not much weather wise that phases me (we do occasionally have hot spells in Scotland, not that you'd think it aha), and I am happy to work in all conditions providing it's safe to do so (e.g no tree felling or roofing in high winds).

I hope I am able to find somebody through here to learn from and be employed by, and I take employment and the work I produce seriously, whether it's weeding a bed or building a retaining wall, I always want to produce good work.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me, currently email is the best bet as I am yet to acquire an Australian SIM.

Kind regards and I hope to hear from you soon,

    Dan
