Hi! We are João, Cristiana and our little 2 year old boy, Tomás.
On 2018 we decided to trade the buzz of Lisbon for the tranquility of the countryside and we started bringing to life a long-dreamed idea. We have converted part of a deactivated warehouse (that was used to raise chicks in the past) and built creative studios and workshops for wood/metal, ceramics and printmaking. During this process, on the beginning of 2020, we already had a valuable help of wonderful helpers from USA, Spain, France, Latvia, Germany and the Netherlands. It was a great experience and we want to continue hosting now that the pandemic situation seems to be a bit more under control and there are more consistent security protocols to follow.
The project is in the last phase of construction, we plan to be fully operational in September 2021. Our main goal is to be a creative centre in the middle of nature, offering the conditions to develop art and design projects, run artist residency programes and held courses and workshops.

Here in the centre interior of Portugal you can discover a rich gastronomy, historical monuments and natural treasures as the river Zêzere and the hills and valleys that surround us, and meet friendly people. Ferreira do Zêzere is a small village, so be aware that you will have peace and quiet but also isolation.

For our project to grow in the best possible way, it is important for us the dynamics of having different people involved, and the flow of ideas generated by the sharing of different life experiences, knowledge and perspectives. We will work together on the tasks that have to be done, and during the working days we would like to have lunch or dinner together. The impact regarding skill learning and cultural exchange will be different according to the tasks, general environment and the dynamics generated. Because there is plenty of work to do, timetables and tasks will be open to discussion.
We usually work at the Studio from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ourselves. We are flexible about the working hours, so you can plan to work more hours on one day and less or none on other day.
The work may vary according to need.
We are looking for:
- someone to prepare and cook the shared meals, which are lunch and dinner during the week days (from June till December 2021)
- help on the warehouse/studios (from June till the first half of August 2021):
1 - painting window frames, doors and footer of the last room
2 - restore a bookbinding press (clean, paint and prepare for use)
3 - restore screens for silkscreen (clean off the old glue and paint and help put the new silk)
4 - painting the outside of the building
- help with the surroundings of the studios (from June till the first half of August 2021):
1 - planting ivy and pull out weeds
2 - put stones on the slope in front of the warehouse

Language is one of the many forms of culture and it is always interesting to learn more about other cultures and countries. We are always curious to learn new words from different languages as well as share our own language. João and I are Portuguese native speakers and we are both fluent in English. I know a bit of Italian.
double bedroom in a house with 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a living room, and a full equipped kitchen, 1,5 km away from the centre of the village of Ferreira do Zêzere, and 200 meters away from the project site.
Ferreira do Zêzere is perfect for nature exploring, surrounded by hills and with a clean river. There are beautiful trails to walk and a wide offer in nature and river sports. We have 4 bicycles available to get around and there is a bus station in the centre of Ferreira do Zêzere to make longer distances.
In the centre of Ferreira do Zêzere, 1,5 km away from home, there are a public swimming pool indoors, a public library, skatepark, supermarket, restaurants, coffee shops, pharmacy, etc..
Nearby there is Tomar, a templar city 18km away. In fact, we are located in the centre of Portugal, so it is easy to visit both North and South of the country. For example, Lisbon is 2 hours away by bus or train and Oporto is more a less 4 hours by train.
