We were developing a Permaculture and Lavender project, but we have been damaged by the fires that have destroyed much of central Portugal's forests, our Lavender has been affected, and we are trying to rebuild. The work at present is very physical, felling trees, and fencing, land clearing before we can replant new trees to replace the many trees that have been destroyed by the fires.
The farm is located on the edge of a small village where you can see many trees and the Serra de Estrela Mountain range to the east, and the Caramulos to the South West. We are walking distance to a waterfall, a secluded beach, and the Rio Mondego. A ten minute drive takes you to the local lake where there are restaurants, and you can swim.
We have built a lodge from a refrigerated, insulated lorry body, then using pallets and wood from the local woodyard, increased the width, to build a 2 bedroomed accommodation, with kitchen and bathroom, for disabled use.
We are also building a property, and have a further stone building to renovate. The help would include clearing burnt trees, selecting new growth from the remaining trees to ensure future new growth and re-forestation.
We are looking for self motivated people, who want to work, learn, and can also teach us things, and share your experiences.
The work can be very physically demanding at the moment.

We hope that volunteers will learn about living off grid, growing Lavender, making and using BioChar. We would like to learn about people from other countries, and their experiences of life.
At the Quinta, the only traffic that you will hear will sheep's bells, as they walk along the road, and the local honey man on his way to tend his bees.
There is land clearing of burnt trees, fencing and tree felling. Building a chicken house/tractor. Building a log shed. Building a compost toilet., and solar shower. We hope to be replanting fruit trees too. Also the grass is growing fast and we need help strumming the land.
We have a modern caravan for two people, it is a 4 person caravan, but for comfort just two people are ideal. It has a fridge, cooker, hot and cold water, bathroom with cassette toilet, (we will build a compost toilet nearby) and small shower. We also have large Arctic tents that are available for use. We have outside gas rings for cooking, and a gas BBQ.
The area is famous for it's wine, cheese, and granite stones! Walks along the river, through the forests, Roman Ruins, Coimbra and it's amazing University. A 10 minute drive takes you to the lake of Senhora do Riberha, we are happy to take you there, it is part of the Rio Mondego. We have friends who regularly have Workaways, they are walking distance through the forest, as is the river.
