Hi there, My name is Devon and I live aboard a 110 year old wooden tug boat in Ketchikan, Alaska. During the summers here I run tours at the Ketchikan Kayak Company. This time of year I'm building kayaks and working on my 97' long tug boat. I'd love some help!

We are located in southeast Alaska surrounded by the ocean and the mountains. Over 1 million cruise ship passengers stop here to visit Ketchikan every summer but few get to stay longer than a half a day. There are so many great hiking trails here and we have kayaks you can use daily also. Our boat is located in downtown Ketchikan, but usually anchored out in the channel as we are a little large, so we live in town but with less noise and a better view. In addition to the great outdoor opportunities available here, Ketchikan has a vibrant arts community here, especially active through the winter. Staying with us on board the tug boat would provide you with a truly unique Alaskan experience and a lot of opportunities to learn aout boats.

We are looking for one or two people to come stay aboard our 110 year old, 97 foot long tug boat and help with restoration projects on board. The boat is not used for work purposes, it is our new home. Most of the tasks will involve refinishing the woodworking inside and out. There is plenty of scraping that needs done and painting to do. We need to knock down some walls, build new ones, remove some older equipment from the engine room and rebuild a diesel generator. Lots of fun boat projects.

There are 4 cabins on board the boat. They are not large but they are comfortable. Our guest could have a cabin to themselves or share with another workaway guest as some of the cabins have bunks. There is a full bathroom on board, a galley and a living room space also. We would also provide you with a kayak to use and safety training if needed as you would need to paddle to and from the boat most of the time. We also have some small boats for transport. As far as food, we prefer to let you cook on your own schedule and would be happy to provide the food you like to eat.

While we are in Alaska, Ketchikan is only about a 1 hour and 40 minute flight from Seattle, Washington, so we're not too teribly remote.
This is not a paid position, but room and board is provided.
